Re: Housepets! webshow, anyone?
I still prefer the idea of the theme being entirely fan-produced like the rest of the video.

I think either way could work so don't ask me to vote just yet.

This user is probably dead here. You can find me on Skype by the same username to see if I'm not actually dead.

I am also in agreeance with this. If we're gonna go as far as to animate the intro, we might as well take the full step of making itMrNeonShot wrote:Same hereHlaoroo wrote:I still prefer the idea of the theme being entirely fan-produced like the rest of the video.

I said I wouldn't make too many WIP parts, but looking back at this section I was really proud of it so here:

I see the beginning of that and can only think of "Old Time Rock N Roll"
Re: Housepets! webshow, anyone?
That makes me think, what if we did a Doo-Wop style intro? That could work.RandomGeekNamedBrent wrote:I see the beginning of that and can only think of "Old Time Rock N Roll"
Feel free to call me Czu for short. The games on this forum are pretty neat.

Why does that remind me of Niles from The Nanny?
Re: Housepets! webshow, anyone?
Hey guys I don't mean to butt in being super new and all but I found out about this comic through the castingcall for this project and started doing some research and I am actually really starting to enjoy the comics and will probably continue to read them in the future. Anyways with introductions out of the way I wanted to pop in here and maybe help creatively with anything while the casting is on hold again sorry if I am overstepping any boundaries being new in all I hardly know anything about the comic but this all looked pretty fun so I hope it is alright!!!

Kinda reminds me of the intro for Kipper the Dog I always thought that theme was soothing and fit pretty well with the mellow tone of the show despite the questionable lyrics.CHAOKOCartoons wrote:I said I wouldn't make too many WIP parts, but looking back at this section I was really proud of it so here:

Re: Housepets! webshow, anyone?
That's sounding great! Two small things that caught my intention though.
1.) The water sound. That sounded like running water, like in a creek or bath or something. I think the effect there needs to be more splashy rather than running.
2.) I think Peanut's voice pitch fits the character but I can't help but feel that the actor is trying not to disturb someone as he records so I think the tone is not right. It just sounds like he's deliberately talking quietly, especially with the yell ("GRAAAAAAAPE!") which sounds like he's just pretending to yell (I mean, it's a full, open-mouthed scream in the comic), and that's not how I hear Peanut speak in my mind. The actor needs to actually yell there and to talk at a normal volume elsewhere. Is there some way the lines could be recorded again so that Peanut sounds like he's talking at a normal volume? I mean, a yell needs to be a yell. He needs to be loud to wake Grape. And Peanut is always a happy and enthusiastic character. His tone of voice needs to be enthusiastic and bright, not muted like it is in this clip.
Just my two cents worth.

I LOVE IT!!!GreatKitsune wrote:As CHAOKO and Honorable Intentions have both heard and approved of it, Here's the sound!
But I am going to have to agree with the previous critiques, I like the voice it just needs the enthusiasm to back a punch with it after all Peanut is a energetic dog I can't really imagine him talking without a ton of energy behind his words.
Also another thing I noticed was when the lines were close together, namely in the beginning where Peanut is waking up Grape, the cutting to each line feel kinda awkward but besides that everything seems to flow fairly smoothly and I think animation with all this would look super nice. So maybe just some minor tweaking and motivations for Peanut's voice is needed but besides that it's great!

1.) Yeah I noticed that too but was going to work around it. I was wondering if they were filling up the water or not because I didn't hear a splash. We probably should change that though.Hlaoroo wrote:1.) The water sound. That sounded like running water, like in a creek or bath or something. 2.) I've stated as well. He was certainly not as enthusiastic as he was in his first audition. It sounded a bit like his "older peanut" audition, which does not apply here as he is at his youngest. Really should try to pick up the tone and not hold back.

Re: Housepets! webshow, anyone?
wow, not gonna lie, that was terrible. i apologize. i honestly had no idea how to emote peanut since this was before i read some of the comics. i played the tone on the safe side but that backfired horribly. i can re-do it this weekend if you guys want. and i will actually try to not butcher it like i did here. i honestly don't know what i was thinking when i sent this out, you guys deserve way better.

Re: Housepets! webshow, anyone?
It's okay man, no harm done
A good way of telling how to tone the character is to look at the comic while reading the lines. That way you can get a feeling of how certain lines should be read. For refference, your first audition was an accurate representation of Peanut.
Re: Housepets! webshow, anyone?
No problem man don't beat yourself up for it the voice is still great and now you can grow from the original take and make it even better!YoshiMoshi wrote:wow, not gonna lie, that was terrible. i apologize. i honestly had no idea how to emote peanut since this was before i read some of the comics. i played the tone on the safe side but that backfired horribly. i can re-do it this weekend if you guys want. and i will actually try to not butcher it like i did here. i honestly don't know what i was thinking when i sent this out, you guys deserve way better.

Re: Housepets! webshow, anyone?
Exactly. All feedback is good feedback and I can tell you have the right voice for this! Plus your enunciation and everything was perfect. We had no trouble understanding you at all and that's important in a good voice actor! And for someone who hadn't read the comic yet, you did a great job!
I can't wait to see what you can do now that you're more familiar with the character!
I think you're going to be awesome, Yoshi!

The movement looks really rubbery. I think adding just one more frame of movement would make it look smoother and more natural.

Re: Housepets! webshow, anyone?
Yeah, when he stops sliding the animation is really crude.
But is a WIP.
It would be better to use more frames in the parts that moves a lot.

I'll fix the water SFX this evening.Hlaoroo wrote:That's sounding great! Two small things that caught my intention though.

This is the first full script you've recorded in this voice so it was certainly a good start. As with any part, the first recording is the best time to get used to the voice and learn how to work with it to make it sound natural. Use this recording to learn and grow in the part.YoshiMoshi wrote:wow, not gonna lie, that was terrible. i apologize. i honestly had no idea how to emote peanut since this was before i read some of the comics. i played the tone on the safe side but that backfired horribly. i can re-do it this weekend if you guys want. and i will actually try to not butcher it like i did here. i honestly don't know what i was thinking when i sent this out, you guys deserve way better.

Thank you for the imputtsMKG wrote:Yeah, when he stops sliding the animation is really crude.

Though it may seem odd, the "rubbery" look is intentional. That's just my style of animation. It relies on being a "trick to the eye", and giving the illusion of sudden and fast movement. It's a lot like how characters in a comic will be making one gesture in one panel, and another in the next. It's both for style and time saving, it allows for a simple yet eye catching animation and saves me a lot of time in comparison to frame-for-frame antimation. Still it takes a bit of time and I work on multiple projects, so I often don't have time to spend too much on one of them alone. I may go back and add an extra pose/few frames of movement, but I may just leave it as is as I don't find it to major for a minute long animation. Plus, it can also end up looking weird, and may contrast with the style of animation.
Time will tell though, for now I'll just finish the animation and if I have time I'll go back and draw a few more frames.
Re: Housepets! webshow, anyone?
I knew that the rubbery thing was intentional but sometimes when changing from frame to frame, he looks like he's teleporting which is kinda really weird.

Re: Housepets! webshow, anyone?
Yeah, I could have executed that a bit better looking at it now. I'll go back to that later since it's not that big of a fix.
Re: Housepets! webshow, anyone?
Yeah, I figured the rubber part was intentional, but the extra frames would really help.CHAOKOCartoons wrote:Neowulf wrote:Sorry for talking about this late.

Re: Housepets! webshow, anyone?
When Peanut runs past the ball and slingshots to the viewer's left (Peanut's right) as he stops. He looks like he's leaning a very long way back. I think having him standing a bit more upright instead of leaning so far might look a little more natural and fluid.
