Seb! I wish you the greatest of luck on your adventure of higher education! I don't blame you for missing school though. Heck I get bored of home real fast.

Tell me about your holiday! When I was in Sydney (in a public school) I had 3 weeks for my summer holiday. Now that I'm in a British School in Beijing, I have 2 months. 25th of July to 19th of August. After the break I become a 6th Form. muffins and cookies, time flies!

Besides, dude: Penny Wong's malay. Looks like you won't have to be waiting a few more years. She is also openly homosexual and is the first Minister for Climate Change and Water. Basically she is a billion firsts all at once.

I think "liberal" is one of the most meaningless words in politics. Pretty much every country has its own meaning, many of which completely at odds. At least originally it essentially meant "valuing liberty."

Is this acceptable discussion since it's essentially about semantics, not proper politics?

It's fine, there's nothing provocative about it that I can see.

I would have to point out that there's a massive slab of politically-aligned language that has either no real meaning or, in the modern day, a corrupted definition, so 'liberal' is by no mean along in its meaninglessness.

Besides that, I see 'liberal' as being more vague than your definition. From what I see it has a meaning similar to 'free' since 'free' can generally be used instead of liberal in most unpolitical situations, where other words are not consistent: a liberal serving of wine (copious, abundant, free, etc), a liberal interpretation of a law (flexible, loose-defined, free, etc), being liberal with money (generous, charitable, free, etc) – you get what I mean. Considering how vague the concept of freedom or liberty is in the first place, anyone can call themselves 'free' and get away with it if they twist the meaning enough. It makes sense that when taken politically it can also mean many different things. Of course, it's a little different having a conservative political party called the liberal party, huh?

Blah blah blah stream of consciousness.

...I didn't think it was worth making a whole thread about, but I need some advice.

I recently found out that my best friend's health is getting worse and worse. His lungs are failing and he has heart problems. The doctors think he might have only 3 years left to live...I don't know what to do. I don't know how to cope with this. I feel so depressed. This guy is like a brother to me and I don't want to lose him. I'm not even sure if I'll be able to meet him IRL before it's too late. I just don't understand why this has to happen to him...

*hugs Dr. Prower*

I know how you feel. I know what its like to have your best buddy at the edge of losing his life.

Trust me I know...

I mean...it's heartbreaking even as I type this, but I just gotta let you know that sometimes theres a certain point in life that it happens.

A million words can't describe how i reacted and felt. I just want you to know that God's grace is sufficient and He will see you through.

My hopes and prayers go out to you and your friend.

Aggh...

I don't really know what to say. I've never really experienced that sort of thing, so I can't relate. All I can say is: my condolences to you and your friend.

But if he's got three years, make the best of them, y'know? Go and shoot a deer together or something. Alternatively, fishing is always a good way to bond with people (or bond more, in your case).

Again, my heart goes out to you, your friend, and both your families.

I've never been in your shoes, so my advice should be little or no help. Still, this is the same thing my Dad told me when my brother died. (I was too young to have any real feelings, but that always answered my questions).

God wanted him up there.

Depends on if the spy is James Bond or if there are ninjas in the vicinity to invoke the inverse law of ninjas. If it was the average spy versus the average ninja, the ninja would win.

There simple.
