To put Sara more at ease and lessen the amount of people standing around her Owain sat on the edge of his bed and started rubbing his feet. "Al'ays brathog, they is," he admitted without facing anyone.

Re: Redwall
Brum has been able to follow Owain's accent easily enough but the meaning of this sentence eludes her.
".. I'm sorry... Al- what?"
"Do you need something for your paws, Owain?"

"Of course." Evelyn begins to examine the mouse's footpaws.
"Have you injured them or stepped on something or are they just sore from walking? Tell me what's happening and how they feel."

Owain chuckled. "Stepp'd on ev'rything in m'time, Ev," he replied. "An' it's like an occasion'l racin' pain, 'specially when I tred on..." he sucked in teeth as Evelyn touched a part of the pad... "tha' bit! Few bits like tha'," he admitted.

"You poor creature. Your paws look as though you've walked for months without stopping. I'll put some ointment on them and some bandages to protect them and let them heal. You should try to keep off them though. But what's this wound? It almost looks as though your paw's been flogged..." She points to a long, straight gash across the largest pad on one paw.

"Wha', no dancin' t'night?" Owain chuckled as Evelyn 'tickled' the pads and he glanced up to Brum. "Looks like yer off'th' hook, pretty lady. Bore Da there, big man." He said, greeting Aldryd. He looked at his foot as Evelyn mentioned the worst injury. "Oh, tha'!" he said. "Robb'r baron gave me tha'. Tryin' to get the defences fer a village outta me, 'e were. We'ren't bright though. I'd not got to the village a' the time..."Hlaoroo wrote:"You poor creature. Your paws look as though you've walked for months without stopping. "Oh, you can still have your dance. Just don't overdo it, okay? Far be it from me to stand in the way of two young creatures having a good time." Evelyn says with a wink as she pounds some herbs to a past with a little water in a mortar and pestle for a poultice.
"You must be a strong and brave creature indeed to endure that and keep walking on it."
"Does that mean anything to you, Sara? Does it help you remember anything?"

Re: Redwall
"Well no matter. I'm sure she did her best. I'll patch you up good 'n' proper though. Now, a pinch of that and where did I put - ah, there it is." A few more ingredients and Evelyn's poultice is complete.
"Now, this might sting a little as it goes on over the wounds but it'll help soothe them pretty quick. You should be walking normally again in no time." Evelyn pastes some thick globs of green goo onto Owain's paws and covers the lot with a firm but comfortable bandage.
"What if that fox IS you? I guess we can't know that either though."

"Yes, maybe. Either way, memory or no memory, you'll always be welcome here at Redwall."
"How does that feel now, Owain? The herbs should have a bit of a numbing effect but they'll also stimulate blood flow and healing in your paws. We'll leave those bandages on for a day or two."
==========
A young vole totters towards the doors of the abbey carrying a tray loaded high with crockery and cups for the tables outside. As he passes the pair of rangers, he overbalances slightly and begins stumbling sideways as the pile of pewter precariously tilts further and further over. Squeaking in alarm, he struggles valiantly to right the tray before he crashes into the wall or floor.

Re: Redwall
Evelyn looks distastefully at the "shoes" sitting by Owains bed that are actually little more than rags.
"We'll have to get some proper shoes for you too. Those ones are no good any more. You need some that fit properly too as that'll help stop you getting any more blisters." She looks down at her own paws.
"Most of the shoes we have here are these sandals. We'll have to see if we can find anything you can wear with your bandages more easily." Evelyn exchanges a few words with her nurse who hurries out of the room and returns a few minutes later with a pair of light canvas lace-up boots of the type commonly worn by sailors.
"You'm be seein' if'n these be fittin' ee, mister Owain." says the nurse in the curious dialect known as molespeak, offering Owain the shoes.
"I'd be glad to, Owain, as long as Evelyn is happy for you to walk."
"Fine, you can walk for today but I want to see you resting all day tomorrow, okay?"

"Thanks'again," Owain said as he gingerly pulled the boots on. They seemed to fit fine. Possibly a bit big but, with the bandages... "An' I promise," he said as he carefully stood up. "Bells'n'boots, eh," he chuckled to the assembled group. "What a day." He offered his arm to Brum for his support

Re: Redwall
In the woods, close to the giant building, an old mouse carried a young one on his back, with a large gash across his arm and side.
The young mouse had a gash across his face, holding onto the old mouse with his feet (or hind-paws), and covering his face with one paw.
Grandfather, we're almost there! he urged.
the old mouse began slowing down, then stopped.
Y-your going to have to get help, Ch-charlie. Climb off my back before I f-fall-- ugn!... over. Grandfather instructed.
Charles did as he was told, then watched as Grandfather collapsed on the ground.
Grandfather? Grandfather!
Not so loud, Charlie. Those rats'll know that your traveling alone, and you'll be in trouble. Help me-- *huff huff* get off the road, then run to the abbey.
Charles nodded, then began dragging the old man to, the ditch, up out of the ditch, then into the woods.
Now get outta here!
Charles nodded again, then began running down the path.

Re: Redwall
Excusing herself, Brum helps Owain out to the gatehouse, leaving Sarafina alone with Evelyn, the mole nurse and Aldryd.
The writing on the cup catches Brum's eye.
"May I see that?" she asks, holding her paw out for the cup. When she has it, she takes it out into the bright sunshine to better make out the markings.
"This is fine workmanship. Look how the brass and silver are moulded together. Only one creature could have made this. Badgers are renowned for their skill in metalworking but their work tends to be bigger and less delicate. I think this was made by Joseph the Bellmaker, the mouse that made the bell that used to hang where the Matthias and Methuselah bells are now, as well as the little bell that the abbot or abbess uses to call the creatures to order. This script around here too. It's Loamscript. Very few creatures can still read it. I only learned it from the books in my library. "Fur and whisker, tooth and claw, all who enter by our door" is what it says. Do you realise what you have here?" Brum is getting excited now.
"This was the cup used by the abbots of old in ceremonies and feasts. It was thought lost after it was stolen by Sela and Chickenhound during the summer of the Late Rose. Wherever did you find it?"

Re: Redwall
The elder wasn't your typical elder. He was very muscular for his old age, and in his current state would probably need more than one beast to carry him. Grandfather pointed that out to Charles.
Your gonna need more than one beast to help me get to redwall. I can barely move.
Grandfather-- ugn! Charles collapsed on the ground, clutching what he could of the gash.
Get him back to the abbey, then come back for me! Grandfather instructed.
Charles, you need to get a bandage on that. Rip material off your shirt and use that. Grandfather instructed the young mouse.
Charles did as he was told. Shakingly ripping a strip of material and wrapping it around his face, securing it with a knot.* But that was all he could do before passing out.
((*Brome of Noonvale was a really good nurse back in the day. This shows how Charles inherited the trait from the young mouse, keeping a calm and clear head as he got the bandage.))
