Not used in Valentines
While the forum was down for the last week I got bored and made a checklist of every single Housepets character, then marked off if they had appeared in Valentine cards.
There was only one repeat:
Joey's paw appeared in Squeak's Valentine card.
Only one other Valentine card contained two characters:
Craig and Draig
The following characters have never appeared in any Valentine cards:
(No human characters were included in the list)
Celestials:
- Bahamut
Wolves:
- Darth Vader Sanchez
- North Star
- Fat Daryl
- Elaine
- Uncle Deadeye
- Rodney
- Snow
Assorted Species:
- What Chicken
Cats:
- Jasper
- Fiddler
- Delusional Steve
Dogs:
- Satau
- Lester
- Rex
Ferrets:
- Simon
This information has literally no use but I thought it was interesting.

Re: Not used in Valentines
If the comic STILL hasn't resumed next year when the new Valentines comes out for 2027 I can see that Rick might use at least one of the wolf cubs for a character in the cards. Though it will probably end up happening with some characters repeating for the other cards.

Re: Not used in Valentines
There's enough characters here for another 5 years with no repeats, plus I almost certainly missed a few characters in my initial list. For example, I know my list didn't include Sophia, Spring, Summer, or Winter. However, a lot of the characters here are really niche and probably won't be used ever, such as Jasper and What Chicken.

Re: Not used in Valentines
I don't think there's such thing as characters too niche to be used. Rufus got a card despite only having appeared in two strips prior to that, and even the cat scientist got one.GingaDensetsuAleu wrote: ↑Sat Feb 21, 2026 3:55 am There's enough characters here for another 5 years with no repeats, plus I almost certainly missed a few characters in my initial list. Yeah, but Jasper hasn't even had any lines. Most people probably don't even remember him.

Re: Not used in Valentines
Jasper and his mouse antagonist, Jinx, fall into a category of characters Rick introduced as kind of "one joke walk-ons". They were supposed to be a sort of Tom-and-Jerry routine but he just sort of shrugged them off almost immediately. Colleen the collie was another, a sort of beauty-queen rival.
Then others, often older characters, made sudden transformations but never developed after a few panels. Daisy went from being creepy and quasi-moronic to suddenly and surprizingly whip-smart. I always thought she and Sasha had great comedy potential as a "Smart dog - eccentric-dog" duo but that never materialized. Yeltsin was another. He originated as a strong-arm partner with Boris who served as Bino's bully boys early on. Then, in a much later sequence, Rick transformed him into a pal of Rex, Rick's original tough-guy, and change his breed into a bronx-accented Boston Terrier (I think). Rex, Yeltsin, Devon and Griswold served with Fox in a scheme hatched by Bino to win Sasha back by having her expeirnce horrible dating experiences with other dogs and thus realize "Bino was the only do for her". It's kind of a touching sequence where Fox is drawn to the brink of professing his affection for Sasha only to miss out when Kevin steps in to claim her admiration.
Devon appears much in a single strip as a noisy pet belonging to Lois's family. Griswold has not appeared since.

Re: Not used in Valentines
Actually the name of Lois's dog that she and her family own is DEVO and not Devon though I will probably end up calling him that going forward after seeing the post.
If you look at the tag that he has, you can see it is an Energy Dome hat that they are famous for.

Re: Not used in Valentines
Devo has actually appeared 3 times throughout the comic. Once as Lois's family pet, once at King's wedding, and once as one of Fox's assistants during the plot to get Sasha and Bino back together. (Try not to think about the fact that Devo's presence at King's wedding meant Lous was likely also there and the press presence is likely where she first got into journalism)

Re: Not used in Valentines
I can only see one human child in the wedding crowd, and it's not Lois.

Sorry about the name error - typing fast out of overcaution about getting caught in a sudden Bad-Gateway SLAM ...Amazee Dayzee wrote: ↑Sat Feb 21, 2026 6:26 pm Actually the name of Lois's dog that she and her family own is DEVO and not Devon though I will probably end up calling him that going forward after seeing the post.If you look at the tag that he has, you can see it is an Energy Dome hat that they are famous for.

Re: Not used in Valentines
Oh you don't have to worry about that at all as I get it. I just felt compelled to correct it if only so I could drop that random fact about Devo and his tag in the conversation since it was very neat.

T'was. Always like to see level-four characters get a "walk-on", especially with lines.Amazee Dayzee wrote: ↑Sun Feb 22, 2026 2:31 am Oh you don't have to worry about that at all as I get it. Re: Not used in Valentines
Yeah it really is a treat when that ends up happening you are right about that. Though I am pretty sure we have to accept though that because they are characters that have a low priority that won't ever become Valentine's cards.
