Well, you wanted him to meet his pets.... Rick got you(us) all!
Slugs and snails and Puppies with tails,
all have their place up in heaven.
It's sweet and smart and real life pales
when the cuteness is dialled to eleven.
Wounds of the past now force themselves shut
as up in the heavens stands moms
Ready to accept and hug and love but
stunned with the force of affectionate bombs.
In heaven she doesn't mind him
even as he looks like a Corgi, like this.
The one thing she knows on a whim
is that, when your son's a dog, ignorance is bliss.

Holy crap! The comic updated while I was in the forums. Go figure. Anyways, that was really sweet for Fox and embarrassing for King. ....... what was their bet about I wonder.....
There is always a mystical adventure awaiting you. You just have to find it and take the first step into epicness.
Comedy gold right there. I was taken aback by Fox's mom, who looks just like Bailey (and for a split second thought it was Bailey, and that she lost the duel). King's smug response of awkwardness got thrown back at him 2-fold. It is kinda depressing how their "moms" are in heaven, as there's that realization that you're next in line sometime down the road.
Been keeping up with the comics, but haven't had much of a chance to jump onto the forums. Glad Joel is King (at least for however long that'll be), and that we got to see a peek at what's happening with Bailey.
Just trying to balance this image with the image of Joel and his cat cowering in a corner in the 'Sinister Shadow' arc as his parents treat them 'harshly'. Wonder how much of that is meant to be real and how much just adult Joel misremembering his childhood. If his childhood unquestioned love for his pets kept him from seeing they were somehow unbalanced mentally he'd probably transfer that to his parents, interpretating any efforts by them to remove the pets from the home to be 'harsh treatment'. If on the other hand, his Mom and Dad did treat his pets ( and by extention himself) the harsh way he remembers, I suppose the Dad's bet would have been something along the lines of 'I bet when that stupid kid gets up here, he's going to make himself look like one of those *******ed animals!
This comic strip is one big warm hug. I cannot describe it any other way. at this current moment in time

Welp, now this strip is far more depressing than it was before, and also slightly funnier.
My guess on the bet: "If you get arrested you don't get into heaven"
Which means Joel's mom actually bet against him! Think today's strip is awkward? Things could get really awkward fast.
on the bright side: Yay! Betting is allowed in heaven!
"[E]ven with simple tools, you too can make awesome."

Shouldn't it be tagged Joel, or at least "Joel's Mum"?
Also, what happened to the forum links on the strips? There haven't been any for a while, and I don't remember any announcement about it. I especially miss the "Click here if [something embarassing]" links.

I thought it was her for a moment as well, but I got to the next text before the duel thoughts.

It could provide a very weird opportunity to see your family tree in a whole new way.
man, it's a long time, since I was here the last time...
anyway: My bet on the bet (*cough*), probably something among this lines: Dad: "You love those darned animals so much, you will probably turn into one soon enough, I bet!"
Edit: Also, his mom looks pretty naked to me... there was a guy in the last strip panel, who got clothes on... but all the animals are naked.... talking about equality *laugh*

I can understand the random 'denizens of heaven' tag for those in the shadows of panel 2, but shouldn't Fox's Mom (or Fox & Bailey's Mom) and Joel's Mom be tags?
As for the bet, maybe his parents knew about the whole Pete vs. Dragon duel and his Father bet that Dragon/Tarot would win over Pete/King.
I supposed the real question is... How did she know it was Joel?
And this is quite heartbreaking. Based on what Rick has implied about pet lifespans in the comic, it can be implied about Fox's mother that she died relatively young.
As for her looking like Bailey, that may be how they are related, assuming their being cousins is more than just a made-up relation based on the relation of their "parents".
I'm assuming it's a mothers trait to recognize their son/daughter regardless of change in appearance because that's impressive of Joel's mother to recognize him as King!
Also this entire comic is the sweatest thing ever, all dogs get to meet their moms!
