Mixed Feelings: Our director decided we won't be going to the marching band competition today. While I'm happy I won't have to stand around in the cold rain for seven hours, I think we're missing out on an opportunity to get more experience and the opinion of a panel of judges.

I'm not trying to make light, I'm just saying, maybe you're not as paranoid as you think you are. At any rate, no one should have to be paranoid of people finding out something like that.

Sorrow: Have any of y'all ever had that friend that has totally changed into someone you don't know? And then you tell them that you just can't deal with it anymore? And they want to "work it out", but when you tell them why you're upset, they listen but don't understand you at all? Now this person is upset at me because I won't "talk to them about it" but I've said the same things over and over again and they still /don't get it/. So I've given up until they get some sense in their head, and now they've taken to trying to get OTHER people involved in the situation. I feel like I have no freaking privacy whatsoever, and I'm feeling totally ostracized because this person knows /everyone/. I WANT to be their friend again, but after they've made so many empty promises and telling them WHY I'm upset but they still don't understand and they get more immature by the day... I just want to give up. Advice? :/

You and I have the same problem, exactly the same problem. I don't have a clue on how to fix it. Yet I know, somewhere, deep inside. There's a bit of everyone we used to know. We just need to know on how to unlock it.Beagle wrote:Sorrow: Have any of y'all ever had that friend that has totally changed into someone you don't know? This happened to me as well, someone I knew turned into a completely different person in the space of a few minutes (literally). All I could do, after trying to explain my concerns to them and trying to remind them of who they once were, is just be patient. The person they were will come back to them (eventually), it just takes time, apart from that there is nothing that you really can do, unfortunately. I'm sorry if I am not much help.Beagle wrote:Sorrow: Have any of y'all ever had that friend that has totally changed into someone you don't know? Re: Joys And Sorrows
I swear this happens to alot of people. My "friend" Nick is such a different person from who he was, he is egotistical, antisocial, lazy, annoying, he NEEDS to be in control of EVERYTHING, he refuses to accept that he is wrong quite often, untrustworthy, and he keeps regarding me as a moron. My advice, if it gets unbearable, just stop acknowledged him/her and see if they change. But if it gets really bad, just stop being friends with them.Beagle wrote:Sorrow: Have any of y'all ever had that friend that has totally changed into someone you don't know? Joy: This might go back a few months but I feel the need to put it here.
About two or three months ago I got out of highschool without failing any courses and then a month ago my parents bought this I tried to talk him into a GT but no he didn't want to buy new tires on a consistent basis or see it wrapped around a tree. I can understand that.
Sorrow: I'm still waiting to be called by a college and I'm unemployed, and not from a lack of trying.

Re: Joys And Sorrows
Sorrow: I was reminded of college last night and it made me miserable, my experience of college was horrendous!
It was not because of the college itself, or the teachers, or the education, but it was the students. They were some of the most ignorant people I have ever met, they hated talking to people they didn't know (like me since everyone from secondary school I knew either went to work or to other college's) and they would deliberately do anything they can to ignore those they don't know. (People would turn around to talk to others to avoid talking to you even if you were right in front of them, they would pretend not to hear you, they would push you out of groups during group work, and when you do manage to catch them they would answer questions with short or one word answers to kill off the conversation and they would bolt the moment someone they know comes through the door, and more).
I found it impossible to make friends, no one was interested (you could sit next to someone for an entire year and they would not say anything to you at all), and the only real human conversations I had was with my teachers. Three years of that and anyone would be glad to walk out of college for good, I know I was. This put me off going University, if a university I went to was just the same as college I couldn't take another three or so years of being completely ignored by my peers, after all, humans are social animals! We have to find companionship, it is in our nature.
Joy: But as much as I bitterly hated my time in college it was also invaluable; after I realised just how hard it would be to make friends I decided to just focus on my courses. I gained knowledge, wisdom, and qualifications that I wouldn't have got from anywhere else. The teachers were always nice and good at their job's, the facilities were excellent, and the education was good. It was not all bad, but it would still have been nice to make at least one friend at that college, and it is strange that my only conversations were those with people much older than myself (then again, I always did get along with older people better than my peers, for some reason).
I guess that is enough previous personal problems for one posting, needless-to-say I am much happier now that college is finished for good, but the memory, those students' ignorance, is difficult to understand.
