What was one character you didn't like but liked after a little bit?

Post by paulanthony »

At first, I didn’t like how King was portrayed after his transformation since he came across as kind of a jerk. But as the story progressed, I really started to appreciate his personality and character arc. Over time, the issues I had with him faded away. I liked how he gradually accepted himself as a dog, worried about his kids being human-dog hybrids, and ultimately just wanted to avoid dealing with the apocalypse so he could spend time with his wife. By the end, he became my favorite character.

Admittedly I had some issues with Tarot who seemed to barely tolerate Peanut and was only dating him because Dragon needed to make sure Pete didn't use him as an avatar. As Tarot grew to like Peanut more and more and fall in love with him even if she wanted to change him just a little bit I began to soften towards her and am rooting for them and really wish we could have seen pregnant Tarot.

There were some doodles of pregnant Tarot somewhere. I think it was either the original release comics or at the end of the Omnibus.

Rex, Tiger, and Tarot all made my initial list of "Irritatings". Over time and personality development, I came to like Rex and genuinely enjoy Tiger. I still don't care much for Tarot - find her stuffy, neurotic, and have no idea what Peanut sees in her. Let's see what motherhood does for her (if we ever see her again. )

Imagine if having the pups ends up somehow switching Peanut and Tarot's personalities around and we get them walking in each other's metaphorical shoes? Becoming a father makes Peanut become some neurotic that he makes King look like an easygoing father and Tarot accepts that life won't ever be the same for her and mellows out as she just focuses on her pups.

Boris and Yelstin start out as Bino's bully boys but, over time, they developed some genuine personality. Switching alliances from Bino to Duchess, Boris seemed to be emerging as something of a counselor to the scheming cocker spaniel. Yeltsin changed breeds, became a Boston Terrier (I think) with a kind of sharp toned street hound, and a conspirator in Bino's plot to convince Sasha to return to him.

I've always liked duos - maybe being exposed at a young age to 1950s TV reruns of Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello, and other comics of the 30s and 40s. However, like some of his other Housepts! duos - like Sasha and Daisy - Rick never developed them.

Daisy was supposed to be just a gag character I believe and say her catchphrase over and over again as a nod to the character doing it in Mario Kart: Double Dash. Showing Daisy talk when Sasha was brainwashed into attempting to murder Keene when Mungo and Fox was investigating was just a one-off to make the arc funnier.

After a while, I took a shine to Eudoant. I liked the idea of balancing all the Celestial characters with a clever, rather witty Infernal agent. There's a liuterary and cinematic thread of depicting the devil as a suave, sophisticated being that Eudoant seemed to be drifting towards. I also thought Rick might develop a relationship between her and Cerberus, imagining the needs for occasional negotiations between the two opposing realms. Instead, we went Marvel Comics. Oh, well ... ;)

I'm not sure how death when it comes to Celestials and Infernals works out so there could still be a chance that Eudoant might be revived even though the threesome of Kitsune, Pete and Dragon turned him to dust but that would have been if Rick wanted to go there. Since when the comic comes back (in 2075) he wants to move away from the mystical and go back to slice-of-life so I am pretty sure that we won't be seeing Eudoant again unless he is also reincarnated.

Also did we ever find out if Eudoant was a male definitely? Everytime I read the lines I imagine him being voiced by Eartha Kitt.

Eudoant is definitely male, and he definitely survived the killer end blast. Rick included a sketch of him on crutches as a filler in the Omnibus.

I guess that is Rick confirming that he somehow survived the final attack that Kitsune, Pete and Dragon inflicted on him and he is out there recovering both to the blows to his body and the blows to his ego. Still we probably aren't going to see him again if that sketch is canon because Rick wants to take the comic back to its roots of being a slice-of-life setup.

Yeah, and with an Eartha Kitt voice! That's inspired Amazz! I'd thought more of Paul Lynde. ;)

It is not that inspired because when I see Eudoant for some reason I think of Yzma from "The Emperor's New Groove" which is why I constantly go back to that. Though I guess you can argue they are sort of related since Eudoant gave Steward the means to turn a bunch of people into animals and while Yzma was trying to kill Kuzco in the movie, Kronk screwed it up and turned him into a llama.
