Re: Joys And Sorrows
It was starting to feel like autumn here a few days ago. Now we've got a heat wave.
Re: Joys And Sorrows
We just had a rain storm come through.
It made me think of the summer I was stationed at Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia. The heat was just wrenching, like living in a blast furnace. But almost everyday and almost always around 4:45 in the afternoon, a tropical down pour pounced on us. It rained so hard that, if you held your hand out at arm's full length from you body, you could give a thumb's up but barely see it for the drench. The rain lasted about twenty minutes and, after it stopped, the earth was blanketed by this wonderful, blessed coolness that went on for about fifteen-twenty minutes.
Then the sauna came back on ....

Joy: I am slowly but steadily losing weight and I am gonna get back to a weight that is healthy and puts me less at risk for diseases so it doesn't take a toll on my health in the long run!

Joy: Me and my mother are going to go whale watching on Tuesday which will be ice because I haven't been in a few years and hopefully the driver of the boat won't drive like the one on North Carolina did who sped over choppy water and made me feel like we were gonna capsize.
Re: Joys And Sorrows
Yay, whales! We've been seeing a lot more aquatic mammals off our shores lately.
A manetee was spotted last week - that lad's a long way from home! (STill, it is tourist season so ....... )

Sorrow: The group that we had planned for the trip to go whale watching has fallen down to just me, my mother and my aunt maybe if she can get up early (since it takes 1 and a half hours to get to the place where the ship is).

Sadness: Due to many, MANY interruptions and my having to physically drag my last story out of me, I may have to temporarily reduce my upload schedule. I currently have two weeks left on Scout: Love and Leisure and zero finished stories in my pocket. I do have one story that's almost done, but I've been having to drag it out of my brain and into my computer because it doesn't want to be written.

Sorrow: The sunburns on the top of my feet are still a bit painful despite me putting on sunscreen when I was at the Cape. Aloe Vera doesn't really work but for some reason taking Ibuprofen helps.
Re: Joys And Sorrows
Great stuff, Ibuprofen. Invaluable for aggrivated spinal collumns and excess coffee consumption.

Sorrow: I woke up this morning and my ankle has decided that it is not going to support my weight today. I don't know what's wrong; I do sometimes have a problem with the other foot, but this is new and interesting. Hopefully my ankle gets better as I rest it today and is fully functional tomorrow, as tomorrow is one of the few days I can NOT call in sick from work and get paid sick time.

*awakens from hot and humid summer slumber*
good afternoon everyone. i must announce the joyfulness of a normal temp day. all summer long its been over 90 degrees with humidity ranging from 70% to 10000%. finally today as i went outside, it felt normal. like how summers used to feel.
hope it all stays nice as we get into the wonderful season of autumn.

Re: Joys And Sorrows
Working on the birthday sucks but at the same time it's not so bad. I like to not tell anybidy at work that it's my birthday and work the shift like normal so I don't have everybody saying happy birthday to me all day. In addition I told Facebook that my birthday is April 1st so only people who actually remember get to wish me a happy birthday.

Embarrassment: I feel like if there are words that I encounter in English that I have no clue what they mean, I might feel like my English isn't good... same idea with Japanese, if there are words that I encounter in Japanese that I have no clue what they mean, I might feel like my Japanese isn't good, even though I know tons of words in Japanese

Sorrow: after a year in and out of hospice, an old and dear friend back in North Carolina left us. She was a remarkable woman - a talented muscian of both modern and medieval instruments, a gifted iconographer and japanese-style artist, and the first woman priest in the little parish we attended. The missus and I hope to get to her funeral which will be on October 4th, appropriately Saint Francis day.

Thanks, Fox - it's a lot of juggling to prepare, but she was a really important person in our lives. And, at my age and my stage, the "log good-byes" are becomin more frequent.

Sorry for your difficulties, snowy. Can you get a doctor visit?
Re: Joys And Sorrows
A mix of both today. A dear neighbor, an older woman we'd know since we came back here, suddenly moved out. She was a good friend - and loved Sophie - witty, smart, and energetic. I'd just seen her a couple days ago at the Post Office, but only could talk for a bit. Then, the next day, the metal ramp she'd had installed to help her get in and out of the house was being dismantled. It had only been in place a couple of months.
I learned today that her daughters had gotten her into a care apartment a town over. And, although I'll miss her dearly, she'll be safe there and well attended. Will try to visit.
