Housepets what if: Fido

Post by GingaDensetsuAleu »

When Bino is preparing to smash the watch and (unwittingly) destroy part of King's soul, Sabrina orders Fido to help and threatens to make him "never born" if he doesn't. I've been thinking about that a lot.
Fido's a pretty big influence in Babylon Gardens. I wonder how much of a difference that would make to the timeline. Let me sum up some of the changes I think would happen.

King: Fido was Joel's arresting officer, meaning without Fido, it's possible Joel would have gotten away completely. Whether Pete would have still picked Joel as his Dark Paladin isn't really clear; however, if he did, it would have been by plucking Joel out of hiding somewhere, rather than out of the courthouse. Fox wouldn't have been out trolling the neighborhood that day, because Bill wouldn't have been on a rampage about Joel's escape. As such, they may not have met or become friends, which would mean King would never have met Bailey, which means no eventual puppies, no witness as to Marion's humanity, and a very real possibility that Demon Steward would have succeeded in turning the whole world.

Bino: A lot of Bino's behavioral issues and attitude come from the fact that he's jealous of Fido's effortless popularity. Without Fido around, Bino might be a tolerable (though probably not entirely likeable) personality, and may even be popular of his own accord. As such, he probably wouldn't have been grandstanding King's watch around, almost certainly wouldn't have been trying to smash it, and Fido wouldn't even be needed to come to the rescue in the first place.

Spo: With nobody to turn Spo over to, Sabrina would have been forced to "do the deed" as it were, and eliminate him, or release him back into the neighborhood where he would likely have been promptly caught by some other cat, who would finish the job.

Peanut: As Peanut's "coming out" as having a crush on Grape was primarily caused by a photo he had of Fido and Sabrina together that had been recolored with his and Grape's coloring, it likely wouldn't have happened. Without Fido's announcing that he was a cat-lover, it would have continued to be taboo, and Peanut would have continued to stifle his feelings, probably eventually becoming bitter and hateful, much like Bino in the Prime timeline.

Sasha: First of all, Sasha would likely have never broken up with Bino; the breakup was caused by several things, most of which were related to Bino's behavior issues and attention-seeking, and as such she would likely never have gotten together with Kevin. As a matter of fact, she likely would never have met Kevin; she met him at a Christmas party that Fox threw for the police dogs owing to his friendship with Fido and was only invited in the first place as a condition for King learning the "proper canine greeting" from Fox. However, that's not to say that Sasha would still be dating Bino now; Sasha is likely only alive today because King, upon being invited by Fox to the Good Old Dog's Christmas Party and promptly being given an explosive box of catnip courtesy of Bino, met Sasha on a freezing cold night and kept her warm when he learned she was locked out of her home, then proceeded to build her an insulated and heated emergency shelter in the woods behind Wolf House where she could stay on repeated instances. Without King's becoming friends with Fox and Fox inviting King to the party, Sasha would likely have frozen to death, maybe not that particular day, but on one of the following occurrences for sure. If not, then thanks to not having met Kevin, she would still be in an abusive household with Mr. Hartford.

Fox: Part of the reason Fox wanted to become a police officer was because he looked up to Fido. It's not to say he wouldn't have become a police dog on his own eventually given that Bill is a cop, but it would have been far less likely. He also would likely still be friends with Bino.

In General: It's stated in Housepets Babies that Fido taught most of the neighborhood dogs to read and write. I can't say for certain that they wouldn't have learned on their own anyway as part of their obedience training, but I do assume that there would have been rampant illiteracy in Babylon.

All of that is honestly pretty dark and has a ton of unfortunate implications which I am sure that Sabrina figured out beforehand and wouldn't go through with it. I think she was just trying to threaten Fido so he WOULD do something but not actually go through with it.

Not necessarily. It could be a case of "I didn't think of that."

Even if she didn't I would like to think that it was just a threat and despite all of her talk she wouldn't have it in her to wipe Fido from existence because she isn't that cruel. If she was, instead of giving Spo to him she would have dealt with him herself.
