Annoyance: I ended up oversleeping today which means I ended up screwing up the rhythm I usually use on the days that I don't have work and I only managed to get it back at the very end BEFORE I go to bed. >_<
Re: Joys And Sorrows
Karen, my brother's wife and widow, came down for a visit with her golden retriever, Parker. We took a couple of extended woodsy walks and hit Lago's Ice Cream before seeing her off. She's doing pretty well, and the skipperkees adore Parker, one of those big, goofy lug sort of dogs.

Sorrow: One of my younger elementary-school aged cousins is having a birthday party and I like going to those because I can interact with relatives that are my age however I am unable to do it today as I have work.
Re: Joys And Sorrows
Just can't get going today. Learned of another high school classmate who shucked off this mortal load last week. Chatted with a couple of other classmates about him and life in general later this morning - seeeerious downers!

Sorrow: We have a Nor'Easter coming in at some point tonight into tomorrow which is going to bring a lot of rain and make it miserable out. It feels more like October than May right now.

Re: Joys And Sorrows
Seeing the missus off to Tennessee this evening. She's going to visit her brother and his wife, both of whom are wrestling with various serious-but-under-control-so-far medical afflictions. We decided it might be best that I stayed home, given that these might be an occasion for some very serious family conversations that an outsider might inhibit.
And then there's flying today in the United States..... Sigh....

Joy: We managed to move the broken washing machine that wouldn't stop refilling and draining by spinning out today on the curb which is something I was VERY much dreading.
Re: Joys And Sorrows
The missus flies home from Tennessee this evening - air controllers, landing conditions, myopic pilots, weather conditions, and some of those passengers from the home of "Deee-Ranged" permitting.
Anyone remember an airline called Trans-World Airlines? TWA? The military used TWA a lot. They weren't very good. We used to say "TWA - Try Walking Alternatives."

Sorrow: Still sick with all manner of illness and I don't know if I could go out of my way to do that longhand of Tum's just in time for a meaningful date. But at least I'm trying to keep it in mind.

Re: Joys And Sorrows
We lived in the Republic of Korea for about fifteen months when I was stationed in Seoul (Our son, Paul, is adopted), but I never got to see much of Japan. Only several short business visits, and those to the Joint US-Japanese Air Base. Had some great views of Mount Fuji from there.
I hope you get to visit the those countries some day, Is. Travel's good for you.

Joy: My air conditioner works well and it not only cools down my room but takes out the humidity so it is easier for me to sleep at night which helps because I need a good night's sleep!
Re: Joys And Sorrows
Joy: last evening, we had special guests. Around 8:30 or so, the missus happened to look out the sliding glass dors of our little porch and - surprize.
There, in the little patch of yard sandwiched between the neighbor's fence, the side of the garage, and the porch, a whitetail doe was grazing with her fawn. They couldn't have been more than fifteen feet from us. The little one was having a big time, jumping around in the tall grass and other foliages (we have a "natural yard"; no suburban grass carpets for us).
Three years ago, we had a doe who came regular to be in the open yard on the other side of the house. She was rather brazen about it, although she came in the darkening hours and left as the sun came up. She birthed a fawn her second year. Then, last year, we did not see her at all. (Don't know what became of her little one - the casualty rate for fawns is pretty high.)
Was this her? Was she back? Dunno. But she kept a wary eye on us as the fawn moved to the side of the house and she followed her wayward child. Then kiddoe decided he wanted to nurse, right in the middle of suburbia. Talk about flashbacks. I remembered back in the fifth grade coming out very early in the morning and seeing a doe nursing twins. must been 1955, 56.
She finished her maternal duties, walked around slowly for about ten minutes like she was thinking of buying the place, and sampled the leaves on the neighbor's lilacs. Then she turned and started to walk briskly into the neighbor's grassy front yard (about 9:00), not running though, and the fawn trailing close on her hooves. Suddenly, they started to trot and then sprint and they were gone.
Enchanting.

Be safe, okay.
Re: Joys And Sorrows
Joy: The son of a family we know from another Church was hospitalized last week and they had to put him in a come. Well, it worked. He's got a long rehab ahead of him but he's conscious and out of ICU today.
Sorrow: The wife of a close colleague of mine was also in the hospital last month. He died of a sudden heart attack at the age of 62. Her health has never been the best, and she was hospitalized for dehydration. The doctors then discovered she had kidney problems, liver complications and needed serious heart surgery - bypass or multiple stents, her choice. She chose the stents. She was in recovery for three weeks and all seemed to have settled down. Ten days after Margaret was released, she was shopping with a friend down in Lumberton, NC. Friend stopped to pop into a store while Margaret opted to wait in the car. Alone in the car, everything just shut down and she died. She also was in her early sixties.
