A great synopsis Weston, interesting your point regarding the faces, I must confess I found the inconsistency and sometimes unflattering drawing style of the faces a little off putting at first but I soon found myself too absorbed by the tale to take issue with it. It is touching how one of the technicians took Laika home to spend time with his family and be a normal dog for a short while.

I always wondered if the gift of the puppies was more of a gloat from khrushchev but I don’t know enough of the history on that front, it could have been more of a reconciliatory gesture. Apparently the descendants of the puppy lived with Kennedy family members and some were given away to local children, direct descendants of these dogs are still living with families in America.

Rising to your thought about the puppy, DDeer, it's what my Quaker mother used to call a "calculated ambiguity", a comment or action that can be taken several often conflicting and contray ways. The gift is both charming but also, as you suggest, a subtle taunt. I'm glad to know the little dog's descendents are still among us.

There are verifications of the story of Laika being taken home by one of the officers to spend some "play time" with a family before her final, lonely journey. There are also indepndent verifications of the story of "Gypsy", a previous "cosmo-pup" before Kudryavka who was adopted by a scientist named Blagonravov who had taken a shine to her. Apparently, Gypsy's partner, a mutt named Dezik, died in an earlier accident. In fact, in a book titled Laika's Window, that author (whom I forget) mentions the fates of several of the dogs "Mistress Yelena" introduces to the Designer and his colleagues while she's showing them off and explaining how each one got her name.

Again, I'm delighted you enjoyed the book. A great weekend to you and Mrs. Deer.

Joy: Tomorrow we are going over to my great aunt's house to celebrate her birthday even though it is a month later than her birthday is so its gonna be a nice get-together as the reason we are doing it now is because her daughter (my mother's first cousin) had surgery and was recovering from it.

Joy: Had a really nice time at my grandaunts house for her birthday and the lasagna that my mother made was delicious even if the oven over there did give us issues since it didn't heat it up fully at first.

Sorrow/Annoyance: No matter how hard I try to go to bed at a reasonable time, I end up procrastinating with it. Thus it gets pushed back further and further until I get LESS than 7 hours of sleep. :x

Annoyance: At work today out of the blue my eyes just started ITCHING and being irritated. I am not sure what triggered it or how it happened but I spent an hour rubbing my eyes almost raw trying to get them to stop so I could get work done because I couldn't focus on anything else.

Sorrow, currently have a heavy cold, very much not bright eyed and bushy tailed.

Joy, rereading Moondust by Andrew Smith, a fantastic book about the lives of the Apollo Astronauts. As much about the human condition as it is about the programme itself, fascinating. What each astronaut did after their missions is particularly intriguing, they all went in widely differing directions both in terms of careers and general outlook. I highly recommend it.

Sorrow: Strained relationship from the furry that gave me hope. He stated I need therapy but the family I'm living with refuses to get me the help that I actually need to begin with.

Determination: I'll see if I can write something that would allow me to go out in a sonic boom before I stop writing fan fiction all together.

Understand. I submit refills when I have ten days dosages left because my doctors are often tardy in responding. Isn't there an AI that can do this? ;)

I've seen the 'fun' AI can cause. You don't want it doing your perscriptions.

Hope: today I'm going to a doctor appointment for review, I hope that everything is good and running, and there is already a schedule to do the screenings for eliminating the cancer tiny bit remains and I hope by the end of April I will be cancer-free, I'm really hopeful everything will go according to plan!

Relief: While my psychologist couldn't give me a script to get anxiety medication because I haven't seen him in a while, my primary care doctor was MORE than happy to write me a script so I won't be having a meltdown on the plane in April. :D

Sorrow: Feeling mentally unwell, to the point of considering... I don't want to actually say it but it's to the point of where I have nothing to live for.

I haven't done anything to anyone recently, but I just feel that mentally ill. I'll see how long I can go on before it gets to the point of my removal.

Challenge: Stimulants are being in very short supply in the states. That would be needed to get me off the stuff overall and hopefully in a functional state to where I don't need it.

But I'm still having to contend with everything else in my life.

A friend of mine in church lost his last remaining brother last month. They had been estranged since the turn of the century, mostly over an accumulation of bitsy-snitsy trivias, but G's efforts to restore their relationship met with tepid "maybes" and continued silences. He found out about the funeral details through a cousin, not the immediate family, and they treated him with a kind of "stiff correctness" at the final service.

He's still mourning and very glum. Being a former High School classmate of mine, we're both seventy-eight years old and both the last of the boomer generation in our families. There's a certain loneliness and melancholy that descends upon you in that situation, and G's in all the harder because he has three divorces (one deceased former, the other two estranged as well), no children, and is pretty much destitute. Very sad.

Maybe all this has put me in something of a Lenten mood but, friends, now is a good time to think about reconciliations.

There comes a time when there's no more time.

It may be sunny out right now but is it warm outside with there being no chill in the air at all? I want to feel the warmth without having cold air blowing intermittently.
