Do you have a specific page that made you fall in love with your favorite character?


This is the moment I fell in love with King. He's had such an awful day but he puts all that aside to be with Sasha when she needs someone.

If we're talking about king, how about an entire storyline that sealed the deal and made him my go to protagonist.

Can't remember any specific pages where I decided that I actually fell in love with my favorite characters since for me I usually decide that with a character at first sight or with how they act if I love to hate them or just hate them. When it comes to a character becoming a favorite of mine I end up going with how cute or hunky I think they are. XD

It's important for a character to look good, but it's their actual personage that gets me hooked. How do they act? How do they THINK? What motivates them, and what does it take for them to ignore their motivations for the greater good?

Admittedly I do take into account their personality also but I confess that it is not at the top of my list when looking at characters to look deeper into. I basically have 5 criteria that I go through and they have to satisfy MOST of them for me to start having a thing for and it goes to show you how screwed up in the head I am. The 5 items that go through in order are:
1) If they are in my opinion cute/hunky

2) What sort of backstory they have

3) Positive traits that can be used for redemption

4) What exactly is their personality like and how they react to things

5) How likely it is for them to take a pie in the face. X)

I like the choice of your totem strip for marking King as a favorite with enormous narrative potential, Ginga. It also spotlights Sasha at her gloriously optomistic, ditzy, and uniquely insightful best.

However that is only an act that she puts on for people because they think they won't understand her if she acts the way she would with her intelligence on full display. The same thing with Daisy honestly though I think she just obfuscates stupidity because its funny to annoy people. LOL

I've always taken a somewhat different slant on Sasha, Amazz. She seemed to represent the "wise fool", the doofus goofus who, in her silliness and dim-witted way, actually saw things more clearly and expressed her understanding with more cleverness than the smarter types.

Ironically pairing her up with Kevin, himself a stereotypical musclehead, took an unexpected turn for the serious and slightly soap-operatic. Initially, in the rivalry of Kevin and Fox for Sasha's affections had kind of a Dobie Gillis humor about it, sort of Archie-Reggie-Veronica triad. Then everything got muddled in the shower with Fox getting confused and humiliated (ah-gain), Sasha getting deep, and Kevin get all serious and mature.

... and then they weren't funny ... or much fun ... anymore. Kevin and Sasha became kinda ordinary, dull, and even a little preachy. And Fox ... well, I'll spare you the repetition.

It wasn't really a rival at least on Kevin's end as he pretty much knew and saw that Fox had feelings for Sasha but the two were so perfectly matched as a couple that Fox had no chance. Fox just wanted to convince Sasha to give him a chance and thought that he did when they made out but of course Sasha is sort of in an open-relationship where she can kiss anybody and Kevin doesn't mind. Very different from when she was with Bino as she constantly made it obvious she preferred his brother Fido to him IN FRONT OF HIM.

I’m of the mind that Sasha is indeed the goofball with occasional glimpses of genius. The “idiot savant,” as I believe they’re called.

I think Sasha actually IS kinda stupid, but that doesn't mean she can't have smart moments. After all, a broken clock is right twice a day, as the old saying goes.

Her saving grace comes from the fact that she's loyal and she likes everybody, which means she's friendly with everybody.

She's not forgetful, we see that when Bino tries to regift her something she got as a puppy. She just wasn't educated and isn't that good at applying her knowledge to new situations. She's STUPID, but she's not AN IDIOT.

She tries to cover up stress by being silly and kicking her friendliness into overdrive, and gets confused when somebody can't handle the excess. For examples, see the arc where she gets emancipated and comes to stay at Wolf House for a while. She wants to be extra friendly with King, and doesn't understand that she's stressing him out by doing so.

Sasha's flirtations with King reflect her "Mae West" moments but, yeah, she can be obtuse ... as Fox well knows.

I feel like Sasha doesn't know that her flirting with everybody can come off as inappropriate or make them feel like them have a chance with her. She had no problem making out with Fox even though she dated Kevin as she didn't see it as being serious and didn't realize Fox did UNTIL he told her.

While "falling in love" is a strong statement. This page did partly inspire me to explore Bino and his potential softer side (that the comic mostly just ignored afterwards).

Considering this is almost immediately before she threatens to staple his ears to his eyes and immediately after he digs through his junk for something to give her for valentine's, I'm not surprised it got lost in the mix. She breaks up with him a few months later to start dating Kevin, and he starts going out with Duchess who does NOT like him, which doesn't really give him the chance to show off his soft side and, frankly, makes his attitude worse.

Which is why there are many fanfics where he breaks up with Duchess after realizing how bad she is and gets another girlfriend. That would be one way to redeem him and I am sure he would go up several points in peoples estimation if he dumped Duchess.

"Bino redemption" is a pretty over-worked fanfic theme. What i'd like to see is a saga in which Bino explores his true, total all-consuming narcissism and become a conniving, power-grasping troll so diabolical that a horrified Duchess tries (unsuccessfull) to escape from his enslaving and sinister plotting. Tragically, she and many others fail until, of course, Bino is brought down in humiliation and ruin ... because, after all, he can't escape being the inept, sniveling little twerp that he is.

Whew. All this trip preparation is starting to wear on me.

Now that you mention Bino Redemption, my take on that would involve recapping a heinous nightmare revolving around King and Tarot having something to do with it in addition to King taking measures to change the course of the future so the mutt can still be around. If the moderators give the okay, I'll share the DM as to how my general take on Bino came to be when i thought about it.

Would even have a instance of the human Joel of his own to be my housepets fanwork's equivalent of Bulk and Skull. As in THE lovable jerks with hearts of gold... And other valuable alloys in addition to gold now that I think about it.

What is intriguing is that, wretch that he is, Bino commands a sizeable posse of "muscle-mutts" like Rex, Boris, Yeltsin, and even Fox who are (at least initially) surprisingly loyal to the nasty little jerk. Indeed, one of the many intriguing narrative threads in Housepets! is how several of the members of his retinue become increasingly disturbed by their participating in his cruel and clumsy schemes. Fox finally abandons Bino and transfers his loyalty to King, Rex and Yeltsin also become disillisuioned, and Boris transfers his loyalty to Duchess. (The latter three, of course, also fade into the far background and have virtually disappeared.)

While this speculation may belong to the thread of "Cast members who will not return", I'm speculating that Bino himself may no longer have a role in the "New and Improved Housepets! 2.0". Or maybe I'm just tired from lifting boxes half the day. Regards.

I’m pretty sure the loyalty to Bino was initially pure nepotism, though unintentional. Everyone loved Fido. He was someone the rest aspired to be like. They merely put up with Bino because of relationship, but even this had limits. Fox had to remind Bino that there was no rule against thrashing the guy when he stepped way out of line.

Bino-Fido was kind of a yin-Yang manichean polarity ... and then, there was Joey, poor dear, caught between them and trying to hide in a cat suit.
Jeez, Rick is a genius with conjuring up characters!

Bino's biggest problem and the main source of his attitude is that he wants so badly to be popular and isn't, while Fido, his own brother, is effortlessly popular and doesn't particularly care. He's angry and bitter and makes a lot of noise trying to grab some popularity, which causes most of his problems.
With the exception of dealing with King, Bino has done almost nothing out of spite, at least on-panel. All his plots have been in attempts to grab some popularity: injuring himself at the Milton Estate, the wolves' coming-of-age ritual, the arc specifically about being naked, even the plot to win Sasha back was a power play to try to keep popularity by proxy as Sasha'a boyfriend.
I have no idea what his specific issue with King is aside from maybe he's worried King will become more popular than him by merit of being cute.

I honestly thought that he was jealous because it looked like Fox and Kinger were growing close to each other after meeting with Fox being the first friend that King had ever made which is why he reacted the way he did towards him. Of course that only lead to Fox severing all ties with Bino but I imagine if Fox gave Bino a second chance he would jump at it while playing it off as charity for him reconcile with Fox.

Bino was thinking that King was stuck-up because of his name. He thought King was flaunting it.

That is definitely why he does and why Max takes pleasure in doing it to him repeatedly. He knows that he is easy to anger and will snap if he keeps on pushing and Max really does find that to be hilarious.

Max and Bino are the only siblings in the series that actually behave like siblings, and they're only related by adoption.

Bino DOES sort of act like a big-brother bully towards Joey a little bit honestly, but they have so few scenes together its hard to remember they are biologically brothers. What's stranger though is that they are biological brothers but adoptive first cousins since their owners/fathers are brothers.
