Spo

Post by GingaDensetsuAleu »

How is Spo's name pronounced?
In my head, I pronounce it with a hard O, like Sp-oh.
But it could also be pronounced like spot without the T, so spaw
Then again, he says his next brother is named Spp, so it could be spoken like the letters: Es Pee Oh (Not likely given that Fido didn't say anything about it being weird.)

Thoughts?

I always thought that it was pronounced as "Sp-oh" because I didn't see anybody else saying his name was a different pronunciation in the comics and one of the characters definitely would have said something about it if not Fido himself.

Agreed. Spp, on the otherhand, you don't say it ... you sorta sneeze it. Like that old comicbook villain, Mr. Bhtkztfx (or something like that - don't remember the corresponding hero who always foiled him).

When it comes to pronouncing his brother's name since there is nothing online that can do it, I just pronounce it as "Sp-Pah" which I know doesn't roll off the tongue but I think it does great for how you say it since it is incomprehensible otherwise.

Also the supervillain you are thinking of is Mister Mxyzptlk who is a trickster and he is a villain of Superman. His name is pronounced "Mix-yez-put-lick".

I think of it as Spo is “Spoh” and Spp is “Spip.”

Good morning, Amazz, and thanks for that little dastardly detail. I was never much into the "Suoup-Hees" but I always got a kick out of Mister Mxyzptik. Guess that brain cell got coverted to a different storage bin. ;)

I totally understand that and its OK that you had trouble remembering it if you aren't into superheroes! The only reason why I know it is because I caught an episode of "Superman: The Animated Series" back about 24 years ago and saw the episode with him in it.

In the comics, Myxlptlk is known to show up from time to time just to irritate Superman. He can do pretty much anything, being from the 23rd dimension, but he usually keeps it to small pranks such as causing water to flow upward, turning things green, or just getting in Superman's way. Superman can banish him back to his own dimension by tricking him into saying or spelling his name backwards, or just convince him to go home on his own. He's not a villain so much as he is an irritation. He doesn't really have any malicious intent, he just thinks it's funny to mess with Superman.
One of the Robins from Batman also has his own 23rd dimensional imp named Nibor or Nosyarg Kcid, though he is a fan of Robin.
