My sincere condolences to you and your family D-Rock, my thoughts are with you all at this time.

That's awful.

I'm stricken to hear that, Cunning, since I have kidney problems as well and can understand what she might be going through. :( Prayers and concerns.

Sorrow: My uncle in addition to having COPD which is something that will eventually kill him at some point, has an aneurysm in his head that they need to remove and they already scheduled surgery.

More Sorrow: My granduncle is in the ICU as they had to do heart surgery on him since he had a heart attack. He's in his 80s. They couldn't open him up because he wouldn't make it but they do an angioplasty on him.

Thanks, Harry. I generate more stones than a quarry but, mercifully, have not needed surgical removal in a long time. Still ... kinda low on the entertainment scale.

They can be. I've only had surgery for them once and that's an ordeal of the first magnitude. That time was really bad, but the pain of carrying the stones was worse - kinda like being harpooned.

I am so sorry to hear of the troubles afflicting my friends on this board and their families. I hope and pray that, the doctors are able to alleviate the pain, and that the distress both physical and emotional that all are suffering, is lessened.

Sorrow/anger: My brother’s ex is, ad I’ve described previously, a snob. During a FaceTime celebration for my niece’s birthday, she told me that my market job wasn’t important, because it was at a “stupid hick market”, and it doesn’t take “any intelligence to cook because look who does it professionally. Ha ha ha. “ Her parents also laughed at her “quip” . I wanted to just walk away, and walk way from FaceTime but, I didn’t want to hurt my niece. Her parents also made disparaging remarks towards the people I work with. Now, she ( the ex) is hosting Thanksgiving and is pouting that I am not coming. (For what it’s worth my brother and parents are understanding as of why I am not attending, so that’s something.)

Neither of my uncles are dead yet as far as I know. I was just annoyed because it looked like people were skipping over my sorrow. So I ended up calling people out. Granted, these are very serious medical conditions and they could be life-ending but they aren't yet.

I admire your forbearance and your loyalty to your niece, trek. And perhaps - maybe a little unkindness on my part - I get an inkling of WHY your former sister-i-law is now your brother's EX. It's understandable that after that mean-spirited "carving" (and at a birthday celebration, for God's sake), you'd prefer to take a pass on the Thanksgiving gathering. I'm glad your brother and parents understand but your brother might, assuming their relations are civil, have some words with his "former" about basic FaceTime courtesies.

Should I be further snarky and ask who'se cooking the meal? Nah, I shouldn't. Have a great holiday!

Sorrow: Had to put down my cat Hubbard today. I wish I got to put more attention into her than Candycorn, but she was very shy and would only sit with people watching television quietly. The tumors just became too much for her.

We got some solace in placing her with our third family dog since we moved to our house all those years ago. you will be missed :(

I'm so sorry for your cat's passing, Cobra. My cat, too, was a shy guy - he liked to help me correct tests and term papers when I sat in the overstuffed recliner. I happened to think of him tonight and chanced upon your note.

<Hugs GameCobra> Sorry, to hear about your cat, pets are so much a part of our lives, that losing them hurts as much as, if not more than losing human relatives.

Perhaps part of the situation with pets is that we feel protective towards them and often can't help them. We empathize with people, too, I realize, but it's possible to rationalize the situation with them, even if we can't alleviate their suffering. But, with an animal, you're never sure exactly how to be comforting. All our efforts sometimes seem so ineffective. We ache to protect them and, of ccourse, we can't ... and we can't quite get across how sorry we are in the face of their bewilderment and pain.

Sophie had some difficulties last night and slept poorly. Now she's quiet, sleeping in her bed with her blanket and her squeeky toy lion. She doesn't have her sheep doll right now because I'm holding it. The doll came with Sophie when both came to live with us sixteen or seventeen years ago. Sophie treasures her sheep, and it's been through many adventures with her, including several misplacements, disappearances, and rescues. I'll put it back soon because, if she wakes up and can't find it, she'll be puzzled and distressed. I'd like to hold her but she needs her rest so I keep watch, go about my desk bound chores, and keep watch over Sophie's doll. All the times with her are precious now because they dwindle.

Sorry to hear about your cat Game cobra, that is very touching Weston, Sophie sounds like she is lucky to have such caring people in her life. Sad to hear she is poorly, I hope you both have more happy times together.

Pleased she has rallied some, go Sophie!

Sorrow, crazy busy at work and I'm pretty stressed at the mo, find decision making very hard at the mo, probably due to fatigue. Joy, got a roaring fire going in the woodburner so feeling cozy.

Partial advice on the decision making. When you get the chance, don't make any decision other than a DVD Box set - or streaming boxset - to watch and just put it on for a couple of episodes. You'll find most decisions don't need to be made NOW, Deer fellow. Take time.

Rehab after heart surgery is tough on the patient - and on the patient's family (obsered the guy who had a quadruple bypass back in 2006).
