Like, you drinking will not cause someone else to end up with alcohol in their system, but you smoking will end up with whatever you're smoking getting into the people nearby. I really don't care all that much, but still, people really should try to look out for that kind of thing instead of standing in front of a mall entrance that everyone uses while puffing away like a train.
Same here, though if someone only smokes in private or with other smokers, I'd say let them. It's on the same level as drinking irresponsibly: it's your body, not mine, so while I disagree with what you're doing to it, it's your right to be able to do it.

Fortunately I choke easily near smoke so I cover my mouth and filter air through my shirt. I have an excuse to look silly.

If I can not be within 10 meters of a smoker, what would happen if I breathed it in? I really don't understand it, I for one would likely suffocate. :? But I don't think smoking is a good topic to have, got a different one?

That can be a breathing problem or weight concerning, not sure. But it probably is something you might need to get checked.

You could carry cards with pictures of cancerous lungs and distribute them to smokers. "You really need to stop."

I have some pictures actually. Though I don't have consent from the person whose lungs they're of, so it'd be unethical if not illegal.

The thing about smokers is that a vast majority of them are aware that it's a really stupid idea. But the thing a lot of non-smokers have a hard time sympathizing with is how very hard it is to quit. Deep down most of the people whose smoke we have to breath wish they didn't smoke as much as we do.

If somebody handed me a picture of a cancerous lung, I'd start smoking again out of spite.

On the subject of quitting, I found it extremely easy to quit. I had a harder time quitting caffeine than quitting smoking. Then again, I wasn't much a cigarette smoker. Trying to smoke cigarettes properly aggravated my asthma terribly.

This conversation was mostly over compulsive cigarette smoking more than recreational cigar/cigarillo smoking, since that's generally not a problem to other people or even addictive most of the time.

Which seems odd to me. There doesn't seem to be any reason why cigarettes should be less offending than any of the other ways of smoking tobacco. Theoretically the paper could be the source, but it's not like tobacco itself is perfectly fine, and cigars especially tend to be a lot stronger, while pipes burn hotter.

I'm not an expert, but doesn't smoking cigarettes involve inhaling more of the smoke?

Or perhaps (decent) cigars are just so much more expensive than cigarettes that it's hard to justify buying them to be smoked more than occasionally, making habit forming more difficult.

For the smoker, yes. But I was referring to the negative affects for people who experience the 2nd hand smoke. I thought you were claiming that cigar, cigarillo, and pipe smoke was less noxious than cigarette smoke. There doesn't seem to be any reason why this would be so, although I've heard people say such things. Rather than make me assume that this is actually the case, I'm more prone to believe that people over-react to cigarette smoke.

For addictiveness, there's not much less addictive about pipes or cigars. While one doesn't inhale cigar smoke, for example, the smoke from cigars is more readily absorbed through the mouth, giving basically the same amount of nicotine that one would get from a cigarette, assuming a low to medium boldness of cigar (and talking specifically of the smoke inhaled). A very strong cigar will give you much more nicotine.

I don't have asthma so I can stay in the middle of a bunch of smoker for a long time. Seriously, I have already given up on fighting it. The second-hand smoking is bad enough, I am not going to get myself stressed over it.

That doesn't mean I am actively seeking out smoke though. I still don't like it, but I can endure it without making a sound.

Like I said before, my dad used to be a smoker. I don't know what made him stop all of a sudden last year, but it didn't work when I warned him for 5 years straight before finally giving up on him.

It's terrible and VERY stupid, but I actually wished that I develop lung cancer due to second-hand smoking so that my dad would stop!

Anyway, he stopped. So it doesn't matter anymore. And I glad that I didn't develop lung cancer.

I was just referring to the smoker, but I guess if a smoker smoked cigars with the frequency they typically smoke cigarettes, that'd be pretty terrible to be around. But the difference I see is that it's so much more common to smoke an occasional cigar just for the experience, with no addiction whatsoever, than it is to do the same with cigarettes.

I don't consider myself to be chaotic. I consider myself Lawful Evil at worst, Lawful Neutral at best, if I had to align myself. Personally, I think of everybody and myself in terms of MTG colours. I know people in the Harry Potter fandom who think in terms of the houses, and there are folks like you who like the DnD alignments. Not me though. :P

I smoked cigarettes infrequently, usually when I didn't have a pipe or a cigar, and everybody was smoking outside, I'd get a smoke off one of them and join for the company.

I did smoke cigars and pipes with relative frequency (I think it looks cool), and I also dabbled in chewing tobacco but quit that really quickly because I didn't like it.

It's something odd about me I suppose. My mother said she couldn't ever just smoke a single cigarette, she would basically get addicted from just one, and that she knew only one other person who could smoke a bit every now and then without ever getting addicted.

Lawful good W/u Ravenclaw!

Actually those three tell you very different things about a person. Combining them could provide a useful personality metric. As a nerd of all three varieties I see the merits in them all.

I think they do, but only some of them. Ravenclaw doesn't tell you anything that Blue wouldn't, while Slytherin does say things that Black doesn't.

I suppose those two aren't completely independent, but they don't completely overlap either. Gryffindor and Hufflepuff are hard to really define with a color.

Not like Hufflepuff was very well-defined in the first place.

Yeah I do!

If I had anyone to play. I know no one who plays it at college and my friends back at home seem to be losing interest. They never want to play. I've resorted to playing over PMs with Dusty, but he's had stuff to do that's been delaying his next move for a while.

He's just mad I Doom Bladed his Hada Spy Patrol, no doubt.
