See, Keene, you have to come up with a plan that doesn't rely on world-ending reality-shifting.

Sorry Keene, you're not calling the shots anymore... and that was your call

Keene's probably gonna be made to walk those promises back, and after seeing the heck it raises (har har), end up making new one that hold just as much water. That is, none at all.

The problem with offering the Moon
is having no way to get there.
The problem with having no idea
is you still have to learn to share.
Lana’s a head you can trust here,
she’ll bring it in on the target;
but a lack of academic
advice is her only regret.
Magic’s the cause, not the answer,
to all the troubles that you face;
and charm is what can win the fight
for young Marion’s college place.

Keene seems to be putting the pieces together. He did plan very well, even if he meant well.

Re: 2020/10/26 - The Real World
speaking of walking back on promises, can he get that "donating a building" money back from the universities? Or at least change the purpose?
Yes, I know, it's probably going to raise all the eyebrows at the IRS, but face it: Kene is desperate enough

Universities "repurpose". They don't return.

The more I look at it, the more it seems Lana is the only reasonable Milton in the family and Keene seems to think he can fix everything with either money or magic(k). Makes me wonder if this arc is more about Keene making a deal and not Stewart.

He can fix it with money by using the money effectively. He's obviously hopeless at bribery.
Re: 2020/10/26 - The Real World
Holy yikes, Marion is SUPREMELY adorable in that first panel.

Its the tail. Squirrels have huggable tails

Re: 2020/10/26 - The Real World
It's the first time I see Lana doing mature discourses, and she's also so right. Now you would even build your own college, Keene? That's too much to afford, and it's also a bad exaggerated idea... The project isn't going as you wish, probably because you were promising too much to its members. So, there's magic stuff trying to helping you... About your breakfast, Keene, it was really your chef. But, your Breel can make it too, especially some good cookies.

Re: 2020/10/26 - The Real World
So does this mean that Lana is going to trash all of the promises Keene made and work on the ECP herself and make less grand or promises that she can actually keep now without the use of magic(k)? If that is the case, I'm sure Marion will either end up giving up all hope or Lana will bluntly tell him to move on. After all, we have seen how brusque she can be.

When I first saw Marion, I couldn't tell that he was supposed to be a female squirrel instead of a male one.
Apparently he needed to wear jeans for me to notice.

Considering Barbie-doll anatomy is always in place and Marion is a gender-neutral name, many of us didn’t realize it.

Yes he does, and yes they do. It helps that Marion is a very sympathetic character, who most on this board seem to like and root for.

Going back and checking My Life As A Teenage Squirrel, seems it's not that his body shape was any different back then. I just didn't notice the difference. It's a lot more obvious when Keene and Marion are in the same shot.
Re: 2020/10/26 - The Real World
Magic(k) power's a fantasy,
Something Lana can clearly see,
But Keene's still dreaming of something more,
Mam, there's no more money off-shore...
Realistic means down-to-Earth,
Thinking about things, thinking about worth,
Not hoping for spells from gryphon-foxes-
Pack the promises, put 'em in boxes...
This doesn't seem to bode well, I think,
'Cause Keene's big plan has one big kink,
They're quickly running out of dough,
The panic spreads, it starts to show.

Re: 2020/10/26 - The Real World
In that last shot it looks like he's looking at someone offstage. Breel, maybe? Who else would be likely present who would be a potential source of magic(k)al power?
Re: 2020/10/26 - The Real World
I don't think he's looking at someone, just looking away while he vents. Unless Kitsune is standning in the corner, which I doubt.

I wonder if Keene knows that he has a direct line to Kitsune through that gaudy statue that King and Bailey have who he can speak through to get to him and if he tried that and was told no? If not maybe he should try that if he knows about it but he will probably just be told no. LOL

Re: 2020/10/26 - The Real World
He knows. He took Marion and Lois there, remember?
Re: 2020/10/26 - The Real World
He knows, he was there when Kitsune "woke up" as the statue. Also, given that he didn't help Marion and Lois return to humanity is a good indication that he won't help with even larger matters. Besides, his deal was with Pete, who is now a powerless fox kit and won't get his power back for at least 60-ish years.

Re: 2020/10/26 - The Real World
I suspect that part of the reason he won't intervene is that this is a 'loose thread' from the game. Pete made the deal with Mr Milton to protect the gold. Therefore it became part of the game and the curse broke no rules so he couldn't intervene then and, thus, won't now.dr_eirik wrote: ↑Tue Oct 27, 2020 3:56 pm He knows, he was there when Kitsune "woke up" as the statue. Re: 2020/10/26 - The Real World
That could be the case. Everything we've seen him deal with has in some way, either directly or indirectly, tied to the game. His reasons for not helping Marion were more stated to be that if he helped bobcat and squirrel, he'd be asked to help everyone.
I tend to think that it's a little of both. He doesn't want to help directly, he'll push gently (like Res in the temple) or hint, but not just snap his fingers and make it all better. He also may be prevented from helping by an even higher power.

Agreed. Kitsune may nudge someone towards s choice or even offer them options but he doesn't intervene to alter events - like reversing your involuntary change of gender and species.Welsh Halfwit wrote: ↑Tue Oct 27, 2020 4:00 pmI suspect that part of the reason he won't intervene is that this is a 'loose thread' from the game. Re: 2020/10/26 - The Real World
Well there was a possibility when he offered King that choice back after the game ended that he ends up becoming a rich human with a happy life with everybody who knew him forgetting about him and living a wealth human life and because Kitsune never said which was which had King chose wrong that could have been seen as Kitsune sort of manipulating things since King didn't want to go back to that life.
Re: 2020/10/26 - The Real World
Hard to tell if it would be considered so. This was a reward for him, so perhaps there's some leeway granted for boons? Plus, it can be obvious symbolism if one thinks about it (as in it took me a few years to realize it...): Joel taking the watch was him taking his fate into his own hands. The lantern was to ensure that the Celestials didn't interfere with his life again after making things better.

Now it finally just clicked for me also after all this time. Glad that you explained it a bit to me. I'm kind of a little inept when it comes to seeing the bigger picture of something.
