I'd consider it if it was a stranger, even. I'd be frightened if a stranger asked me out of the blue to come with him (or her) for obvious reasons, but if the person can demonstrate magic and then convince me to trust him/her, I'd probably learn.

Oh also, immortality would be awesome. I'd go for immortality. So long as by immortality we just mean "eternal youth." I don't want literal and complete indestructibility.
That cracked article is overly pessimistic.
Also, Sleet, would you take them if it was a walking skeleton in an oversized cloak who said "You want some magic powers? Magic powers for absolutely free?"

I'm pretty sure eating an entire broom would kill me, so I probably wouldn't go with him.

Yeah but would you know that you'd have to eat an entire broom just to learn dustomancy?

Does the ability to raise a legion of undead count as a super power?

Re: Whats Your favorite super power?
Big time. I've always kind of wanted a legion of the undead. Mostly because I love playing against stereotypes so it'd be sweet to command a zombie horde but be a pretty swell guy/girl. Think of the good we could do!
Regardless, there's nothing you could offer me to eat a broom. At least at once. If I can't survive it, there's no point.
Consider me genre savvy. Which is kind of a super power in itself.Senator_Sunburst wrote:Yeah but would you know that you'd have to eat an entire broom just to learn dustomancy?

Yeah, I think I could take a couple weeks to eat a broom if I got super powers out of it.

Re: Whats Your favorite super power?
I'd probably grind it to sawdust and eat it at a very slow rate. Sawdust will cuss up your digestive track in a big way if you eat too much at once. It'll take at least a month, if not several. Totally worth it for the magic. Since the powers after level 1 don't seem like they'll take too much to earn.

Re: Whats Your favorite super power?
thanks for trying to ruin my super power, yoyo. i really appreciate you respecting my fantasy:
immortality: This suffers from all the same philosophical questions as infinity itself does. Same goes for omniscience, omnipotence, omnipresence . . . Good luck being able to truly understand the concept of these things. I know I sure don't. Even that cracked article can be taken further - when all that rubble erodes off me, I may be traumatized, but is my psychiatric health really going to be an issue if I am the only human left? What am I going to do, kill myself? When I can't die? Additionally, am I going to remember that three-million year spell when I'm hitting my roaring 9-trillions? How is my memory going to respond - am I going to forget everything? Again, does that even matter when the immortal will be seeing the overall picture of everything? Of all of eternity? Who'll be laughing at the immortal when he's 837 octillion years old?
flight: you'll have to take into account atmospheric conditions (don't be going too high, don't go changing altitude too quickly - you're not the immortal one, after all). and boy, wouldn't it suck if you drop something on your way to Johannesburg?
super agility: at those speeds, you'll be burning up from the friction from the air.
time control: when sped up, you'll be aging slower than everyone else. when slowed down, you'll be aging faster than everyone else.
'healing' powers: pretty close to immortality, minus the absolute indestructibility that immortality implies
shape-shifting: you would have to have an extremely intimate understanding of your anatomy in order to shift without killing yourself, and regardless of that ("oh i can just shift my anatomy flat despite having no active motor control of it duh") you would have to remember how to reproduce yourself precisely. it would have the same shortcomings as when you try to represent something on paper precisely as it is in reality - it tends to look slightly wonky despite you knowing exactly what it looks like in real life and why is this pencil not listening to me jeez.
controlling inanimate objects or various forms of energy (telekinesis, whatever-mancy, whatever-urgy): i think it would be a logical assumption that in order to control such things you would have to be able to sense such things, as per how you can control your arm because your body can feel your arm and knows that it is there. as such, you'd be able to physically feel all of the things under your control. Alternatively, if you control them in the same sense as you control your stomach, good luck doing anything with that.
additional thought: This is pretty much the one above, but I realised it can be applied to a lot more situations than that - almost all of the ones above, actually.. Active control requires thought, whereas passive control is exceptionally difficult to use actively. We may be aware of our heart beating but it is extremely difficult to slow or quicken our heartbeat at will. Alternatively, we have to specifically control our muscles or else they will go slack and do absolutely nothing - basically what I'm saying is that you would have to control these things at all times, which if you are controlling something actively would be a lot of work whereas if you are controlling it passively would be incredibly difficult to harness.
Magical powers/Pick-And-Choose powers: See all above. See all above.
okay i'm done

Re: Whats Your favorite super power?
Eh, that wasn't the healing powers I had in mind... But I guess Ebly's version is a lot better than mine, so I don't mind.
What I had in mind is actually more like a cleric's "Cure Light Wounds", "Cure Serious Wounds", "Cure Critical Wounds", "Remove Disease", "Restoration", "Neutralize Poison", and such. But most of them will probably accelerate a cell's age or something and cause some unwanted problems in the long run.
But I bet many are willing to have something like "Remove Cancer" though.

well ultimately if you could use them without MP restrictions or whatever, you could heal virtually anything and everything, therefore immortalityAquablast wrote:Eh, that wasn't the healing powers I had in mind... But I guess Ebly's version is a lot better than mine, so I don't mind.

However, I am very sure I missed your main point...
And I am a bit surprised you didn't pick something like "Mind Reading" or "Comprehend Thoughts" though.

nobody's said they want that yet (alternatively: i've missed it). i was just ruining everyone else's, since yoyo decided to ruin mine. *snickers*Aquablast wrote:However, I am very sure I missed your main point...

that would probably also fall victim to the whole active/passive thing. probably.

Re: Whats Your favorite super power?
my favourite super power would have to be psychokinesis.
if you have a strong enough control over it you would be able to do almost anything.
i could stop the entire planet from moving, i could turn entire armies to dust, RAISE THE OCEANS AND SEND FALL BACK DOWN DESTROYING ALL LIFE AS WE KNOW IT. MWAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
*cough*

I've always wanted just enough telekinesis to propel myself six inches off the ground at all times.
Why?
Because it looks cool.
Also, teleporting, because I hate wasting time.

Re: Whats Your favorite super power?
Most likely because they don't know what the word intangibility means, not because they are stupid since everyone is of an above average intelligence, but because they have no reason to learn what it means so long as super hero's and super villains show off their own paticular powers. Also people usually opt for an ability that they could find useful in their current lives, not thinking how it could change their lives on a grander scale. This is why abilities that get people to places quicker or allow them to do more are usually very popular, like flight or having immortality. If you think about it, most people aren't truly evil in any way (though they like to think they are) and the only use that comes to mind when going through solid objects is to steal money from a safe.Teh Brawler wrote:I don't know why intangibility is so unpopular. Contrary: to be intangible is to be "unable to be touched or grasped; not having physical presence". Since that would default you to metaphysical, you would basically be an emotion or a thought. Not the biological processes that cause those things, you would be our concepts of those things. You wouldn't control them, you'd be them. Just have to point that out. Enjoy your lack of existence.Teh Brawler wrote:The ability to go through solid objects.mariomarc wrote:what is that?
On the alternate, the ability to go through solid objects would be destroyed by the simple fact that everything can be solid. Everything. Having the ability to go straight through solid objects would require you to be able to go through everything, which would make it no better than living in an absolute vaccuum. You would have nothing to breathe and you would also be pulled into a plasma. So you have one remaining option: the ability to somehow fit yourself in between the molecules that make up the solid object a la shapeshifting, which has already been ruined earlier.
The whole creating a universe to your exact specifications thing should be obvious, since you'd have to make absolutely everything to your exact specifications or else significant parts of the universe would simply not exist, plus you would have to control it at all time to maintain your exact specifications, plus it raises philosophical debate much like immortality or any of the omni- abilities.

Re: Whats Your favorite super power?
yeah the whole philisophical thing got me. but the first part isn't so. if i wanted t create a universe, say, that had the best ice cream, (silly reason, not the point) id make it very small. all the atoms are contantly vibrating at a constant temperature due to shermflanigin, a force in this universe that keeps all the atoms vibrating at the same speed. this means nothing gets colder or warmer than what i set it to. (all air molecules be this temperature, icecream molecules be this, so on) that means no need for sun except light. artificial sun that gives off light but not heat. basicly, the point is that if i want something, i create a small or repeating universe catered to that want. for more complex things, i take or universe and "copy, paste, edit," so to speak. to start from scatch, i go to the universe where time and boredom don't exist and spend eternities creating.Ebly wrote:The whole creating a universe to your exact specifications thing should be obvious, since you'd have to make absolutely everything to your exact specifications or else significant parts of the universe would simply not exist, plus you would have to control it at all time to maintain your exact specifications, plus it raises philosophical debate much like immortality or any of the omni- abilities.[/size]
the philisophical thing, well, problems created by the mind require only the mind to resolve
your turn, ebly.

The ability to go through solid objects is cool, but there are much better powers IMHO. Like, teleportation. That'd be awesome.
I still go with the ability to be able to create, control and become electricity. Or any other element, like ice.
