I always wondered what the heck happened to Fino and Fritzy for that matter. I really LIKED Fino a lot. XD
Re: Housepets! Tails of Babylon! * Developer's Thread *
I think the shadows and Jata were all that were mentioned. Not sure if we brought up Bahamut or not, but admittedly would be neat. I doubt we'll use The Forgotten, though. That tower build was really more of a test demo. Did consider epilogue-type scenarios where the team heads to alternate dimensions (i.e. fanfic worlds) but it seems unlikely to happen. And I doubt that the team would want to input Mirage. Macabre being in was only because I went solo with that demo.kavviyenta wrote:Hmm, bonus boss? Aside from the shadow bonus bosses, how many would you include in the storyline?
It could be the judge Bahamut (holding back his full power either in dragon or whale form or both); imagine getting a dose of his megaflare.
Or it could be the Forgotten; the hundred level temple is canon but is the tower still available?
Or it could be the Gary Stu, Fino!
Or maybe Mirage, since we fought Macabre before.
I understand, well, hard feelings, to put it incredibly lightly, but let's not input things for catharsis sake, please.Buster wrote:or they could pull a squareenix and stick an over-powered dubiously balanced caricature of Star (and i mean the human behind the keyboard, not an avatar, character, or online persona) in as a bonus boss fight
Admittedly, I remember submitting the idea of a "developer room," similar to how Game Freak sometimes insert themselves in Pokémon games.
I liked the overal concept, but some of his suggested bio did indeed get ridiculous.Amazee Dayzee wrote:I always wondered what the heck happened to Fino and Fritzy for that matter. I really LIKED Fino a lot. XD

Congratulations. You now just made me more curious in his bio. I'll have to dig on the site to find it. :3
Re: Housepets! Tails of Babylon! * Developer's Thread *
Figured I'd see if I can manage Pueblo, realized I'm going to need a collar-less look for some characters, regardless. Thoughts?

i'm prety sure that's not his color.

Well, other than that? Wanted to get feedback on the base itself before going for color and details.

Spoiler alert! Pueblo's biological father and Grape's biological mother had an elicit affair and conceived a child from that union. Introducing little Tyrian! The half-brother of Grape and Pueblo. XD
But seriously, I think that the base came out fine.

No clue what his eye color is, but I think I like how this came out.

I thinking that you got his eye color right and its the same color as his fur. Really wonderful job on the sprite!
Re: Housepets! Tails of Babylon! * Developer's Thread *
Thanks. As for the eyes, exceedingly few characters have visible irises after the latest style update, mostly relegated to close-ups or freakouts. Pueblo has had none of those, and I'm unaware of "extra" art that shows them. Here he's just using Grape's eye color.
I should definitely move on to characters that are going to appear in the next chapter. Like I mentioned earlier, that'll require figuring out taller/more broad body types for the rest of the GODC.

If anybody is able to figure it out, it will be you! You are doing a great job so far!
Re: Housepets! Tails of Babylon! * Developer's Thread *
So, it became obvious rather quickly that I have no clue as to how to make "tall" characters. This was a quick test to see if merely adding a few pixels in height and length would work, and the answer was "not really." Any tips? Right now looks like might have to widen the waist a bit. And this isn't even considering side and step views.

Is that Kevin? That looks pretty good.

if the engine works even slightly similarly to the old one, the space each of the 12 sprites occupies must be perfectly square, the sprite centered horizontally, and the width a multiple of 8. try starting from there.

Kevin looks even cuter in sprite form than he does when Rick draws him. <3
Re: Housepets! Tails of Babylon! * Developer's Thread *
Good news, made a "taller character" base sheet for the engine, and it works!
Tested the start of the Mungo sprites that used Kevin that I used earlier, arranged them to fit these, and I didn't see any noticeable problems with movement.
I might need to make bigger for certain other characters, though, like Nue and Olde, maybe the rest of the wolf pack, and the humans. There are already existing "huge" character sheets in the engine, those could work for the final bosses.
Bad news, apparently didn't size it correctly.
A few pixels off, it seems.

i noticed you had some edges bleeding together and some of the squares weren't sized consistently. than can happen sometimes when you have software do the scaling for you. try this, any better?

Surprised about the squares, honestly. Thought I properly used the drawing tools to keep shapes proportional. I'll try what you sent later tonight, just got to work. Thanks!

Re: Housepets! Tails of Babylon! * Developer's Thread *
usually i make one square and just cut and paste it a lot, at a close enough zoom that you can count pixels, to make half the checkerboard. that way you know they're all identical. then finish up with the fill bucket. also make sure the program you're using doesn't anti alias or interpolate anything as that's where most of the edge bleeding comes from. from a distance they look fine, but up close you'll start noticing 1-2 pixel wide seams everywhere.

Re: Housepets! Tails of Babylon! * Developer's Thread *
I found the problem with mine, and you're right, I forgot to turn off anti-aliasing when resizing. I made sure to do so when making the sheet guides for the normal-sized sprites, but each tool tracks anti-aliasing independently.
Tried yours, and the engine accepted it no problem, so thanks for that!
Tried them in-engine, and seems they work pretty well. Of course, overlap won't be a problem as long as the characters are kept in the center. I'll try about adding the taller characters (Zach and this incomplete Mungo) tomorrow, see how they work with the existing sprite sheets in the fact that the team all appear on screen following the leader. If this proves too much a problem, that detail can be turned off.

Re: Housepets! Tails of Babylon! * Developer's Thread *
Why would Zach in the game be classified as a tall character? That doesn't seem like it makes sense unless you are talking about his ears. I thought he was the same size as Peanut and Grape.
Re: Housepets! Tails of Babylon! * Developer's Thread *
Yup, the ears needed a bit of extension past the regular sprite sheet borders.
UPDATE: formatted Zach into the big sheet Buster made, and checked to see how it would interact both with another character from the same sheet, and with characters from smaller sheets. They seem to work great!

They really did come out well formatted. That is awesome the way the both of you were able to put it together!
Re: Housepets! Tails of Babylon! * Developer's Thread *
Started work on making the kevin sprites taller for Mungo. It's going to be, shall we say, interesting.

I am real curious in seeing how the results will come out. =o
Re: Housepets! Tails of Babylon! * Developer's Thread *
Well, finally got the energy to finish up a "tall" character model sheet. If y'all think this looks good, I'll work on making this into Mungo, Yeltsin, and Boris. Rex has a different head shape, so cross that bridge when we get there.

Okay, Mungo came out surprisingly good!

He really looks so different and distinct than Kevin and I thought that they would totally look alike. You did a nice job on these! ^_^
Re: Housepets! Tails of Babylon! * Developer's Thread *
Thanks! I almost forgot that Mungo has a different hairstyle than much of the rest of the cast. Almost tried to remake the swept-back spikes, but eventually figured out to keep it round at that size.

Made some progress.
Made Boris during the site outage, and just finished Yeltsin. Odd to work with, to be sure.

I am sure that it will be one that you can easily tackle.
Re: Housepets! Tails of Babylon! * Developer's Thread *
And surprisingly it was.
Just add a few well-placed cheek lines and add a bit of a point to the ears. Used Peanut's head as a base.
