I don't which group I'm part of right now.Indagare wrote:I found this comic hilarious. What, exactly, do you people who are complaining want? If Rick gets dramatic it becomes:
*flailing arms* "OMG! Cerebreus Syndrome!!!one!"
so Rick does something almost completely opposite and it becomes:
*flailing arms* "OMG! Teh comic is borked!!!one!"
Seriously, get a grip on yourselves people. It's a comic. If Rick wants to do silly, let him do silly. If Rick wants to do serious, let him do serious. If he wants to say the Houspets! world is supported by four elephants who in turn stand on the back of a giant sea turtle who is swimming in the cosmic sea towards an unknowable future, that's his perrogative. And if you don't like that make your own web comic!
Anyway, I still find this funny, in a VERY strange way, and what you said makes sense, but it's made me realize I need to do some serious thinking on how I approach the comic, or will do so in the not-too-distant future.
EDIT: Okay, on second thought THAT is NOT going to happen. Too dark. But he might have his disbelief reinforced, which while it may not make things worse, doesn't help him either.

Re: Arc #32: The Dog Days of Summer
If I might suggest: approach the comic as a comic. It's a work of fiction that has interesting and entertaining characters, some of whom we get very attached to, but who are, ultimately, not real. Go with the flow. Enjoy the stuff you like, ignore the stuff you don't.PhoenixAsper wrote:I don't which group I'm part of right now.I personally am VERY attached to King as a character (TOO much so), and wanted to see him make some progress. This could either send him into more snarky bitterness or mean nothing at all to him, depending on the direction. OR I could be completely wrong, and there's some greater good purpose for him in this arc. In any case, my brain's fried.

Thank you, but that's not what I meant. I have great difficulties ignoring anything. I originally approached the comic as such, up until King came along. Then it took a sharp turn. What I meant was, I may have to distance myself from this comic soon. I don't want to: I like it, in an odd and complex way, but I also don't want to make a serious stink here.Indagare wrote:If I might suggest: approach the comic as a comic. We know, but everything before this comic indicated that this might be very true... Tarot's and Pete's power, that is.

It may be futile, but it sure is a lot of funvalerio wrote:I hereby invoke again two of the three Sacred Housepets Rules

Speaking of which, now that we know Tarot is the dragon's avatar, and not actually the dragon, that makes me wonder if Pete's human form is really an avatar as well, and not actually a form. Not that it changes anything either way really, but I'm curious now.
I must say, when I first read this strip, I was shocked, and then a little put off. But now that I've had a few minutes to digest it, I feel that, though it is quite a gargantuan leap, it actually fits just fine within the House Pets universe, and definitely fits the overall tone of the comic. So while I first thought that Rick had stretched things a bit too far, now I'm feeling ok with it, and am looking forward to more.

Re: Arc #32: The Dog Days of Summer
Oh MY GOD I just thought of something. All of Tarots prophecies until now have been about the fans or the U&U game when she was talking about the end she meant that she would have to play the U&U game with Pete again and the game would come to an end and the whole those that don't have love in there heart thing (this one is a bit of a stretch I admit) I think She might have been talking about the fans (that they would not love the comic anymore after this) and not anyone in the comic. Or maybe I'm over thinking this a little to much.
Re: Arc #32: The Dog Days of Summer
The existential, ontological implications of this strip are profound. Not only is the HP! universe a playground for the two, but... err... since Tarot's just an avatar of the dragon, doesn't that mean she a) is merely quasi-real and b) ceases to exist once the game's over?

Re: Arc #32: The Dog Days of Summer
People want Rick to push the boundaries, but when it goes in a direction they're unprepared for, it's all of the sudden too much! Every other comic Rick must be shifting the genre because the comic isn't how *I* imagine it to be. Every other comic you have people complaining that the one-offs don't move the story along, and every other-other comic you have people complaining when the story does move along.
I understand that as readers and fans, you're not required to enjoy or even like everything that comes up in Housepets. In some ways, Rick has a responsibility to the people reading. But, seriously, how many years has to go by for people to understand that even when something happens that you think is a little strange or off, that Rick usually (and I'd say to this point, always) brings the arc to a satisfactory conclusion?
It probably says a lot more about Rick's ability to create characters that people love and care about, and his ability to create suspense that has everyone's underwear bunched up when ANYTHING happens.
At the same time, even if there are arcs that you think are subpar (maybe this one), doesn't Rick tend to have a good balance? Doesn't he get around to the parts you like? Maybe the parts you like other people don't like so much, and Rick has to please them, too?
Personally, I think the shipping is ridiculous, and comics that move that forward I care the least for. I know there are a ton of people that would disagree with me. Personally, I'd like more Tiger and Spot (superdog). I think those are the most creative and funniest comics of all of Housepets. But every time I look at the comments for those, there seem to be ten readers who don't get it (or complain about the art of all things) for every one reader that does.
Can't we all realize that we all like different parts? That Rick is writing this not only for himself, but for thousands of readers? That Rick isn't writing this just for me? Can't we all just get along!?
in before tl;dr

Hmmmm......update.
I think you called it accurately at the end of the first year, Rick: you never ARE going to understand humans. Myself included.
You know, an insight: the comic clearly has not developed Cerberus Syndrome.......... but I think some of US have.
