Woo I was right! I'm just not sure whether this is a spirit or Tarot's real form, but really... it's something I didn't expect! I wet myself ....
And now what? Please don't tell me we're gonna lose Tarot and/or King. They're both awesome characters (Especially when drunk >_> ), so yeah, it would really be a big loss.
This makes me wonder, what is Sabrina...?
I had a feeling this would be brought up <3
I honestly don't think Sabrina can do this. She seems more book-smart than spirit smart than Tarot. I'm willing to bet though Sabrina is still magically connected in some way, but not like Tarot. i'm betting Sabrina is like a walking magical encyclopedia or something similar.
Sleet wrote:Holy crap. This is getting good. Now the question is whether that was Tarot transformed or a spirit summoned by Tarot. And if it was Tarot, is that her true form, or just one that she can magically take?
One of the tags reads "Spirit Dragon", so it might be possible Tarot summoned one of the spirits and fused with it and she isn't a disguised dragon to begin with.

Uh okay then!
Hoping this is at or very close to the maximum level of ridiculousness because it can't go much further without ruining everything good about the comic.
EDIT: ^^ And I'm glad people agree with me about that
Y'know, when Tarot was introduced, I did a fair bit of whining about what a Pomeranian ex machina she was, but this makes her sudden random appearance perhaps make a lot more sense.

I think he can be bigger if he wants to.
Pete may look smaller since he's in the background. Look at the positions of King and Pete from the first panel to the second.

No, Pete is very obviously in the FOREGROUND in frame 8. Tarot's spirit dragon is just that huge.
I have a bad feeling she's gonna make Pete turn King back into Joel.
Oh, and I think she's actually the doggie, but can harness the dragon power. Why would she bother being in love with Peanut if she were really the dragon?

Is she in love with Peanut? Or is she just making him think that, so that the poor dog has someone in his life? Perhaps she's some kind of good spirit, and is just saving Peanut the empty feelings?

Most likely he's special in some way (and by that extension Grape might be as well since she got the dream from Pete in the first place) you know like a chosen one or something. Or maybe she just felt like interfering out of boredom. (I take the first option.)

Giant ethereal dragon spirits need love too, you know.

So you went with the "in a completely different direction then I expected" option again huh Rick? Epic work as always
And thanks for not leaving us hanging on the holiday
As to the discussion about whether Tarot is really the dragon or not... I expect that Tarot is the dragon, but it will be interesting to find out for sure. Assuming, of coarse, that Rick is going to make it official one way or the other.
Ohmygawd you guys, now that Tarot is a giant spirit dragon she probably doesn't need a boyfriend! Now that Peanut is single... *insert ridiculous shipping logic of your choice here*
Wait, is Peanut there? I wonder how this is going to be explained to him if he's not.

As for King, I have a feeling that Tarot won't be able to turn him back, at least not yet. He'll probably have to decide whether he wants to go back or not.
And Pete is finally going to get some comeupance for everything he's put King through.

Yoyodude I think you are trying to imply that I mean that Tarot is not in love with Peanut that was not my intent I think she does have feelings for Peanut its just that she was alerted to him because he was special and developed feelings for him later. (The second part of my the quoted post was kind of a joke I wasn't being serious.)

methinks king will be turned back into a human after pete is taken care of
Personally I think and hope not. King is to good a character to lose so soon.
I do believe Tarot will help King in some ways but their are probably some annoying rules that prevent her from helping him by changing him back into a human.
Maybe we will learn the conditions to change him back or even some of Pete and Tarot's rules.
Considering how popular King had gotten lately, I think he won't get changed back that fast. Or I would be wrong on this one...

At the moment I’m just dying to know what ‘the rules’ are here...
I mean really, is it just me or are supernatural beings always messing with mortal creatures in some kind of universal game with vaguely defined rules?

I hope its some sort of Chess Motif then we would get to pick out who every one is (chess piece wise)(By the way I really doubt its a Chess Motif thing but that would be fun I love them.)

Alright, I’ll be the one to ask. Doesn’t anyone here find it just slightly annoying to consider that the characters you come to love in this comic are really nothing more than game pieces for the supernatural?
yoyodude wrote:Yeah I don't want the comic to turn dramatic TOO much. I don't want it to get too out of hand.
I hate to say it but I think we're seeing the beginnings of Cerebus Syndrome (What the Trope is called when things begin to go from Comedy to Drama) I could be wrong however and even if it does I really don't think it will ever get that dramatic anyway.
Edit: And really I think this comic has been on the road to Cerebus Syndrome since I2 really and even maybe a little before that.

I love this arc, and I love to see King, but I hope that directly following this arc there are a few funny fillers and then an arc about something normal.
I agree with CT. I must say that this is interesting for a while, but it gets dull after a time. Housepets is... cuter without magic. Let's put it like that.

But a little magic is a good thing! Because without it, we would have no King!
Win. This is law from henceforth. The Dragon is voiced by Christopher Judge. (Of course, that means he's gonna make up his own lines and stuff...)

Well it’s not all bad; you’ll notice that Rick didn’t forget to add the joke on the last panel as always.

I’ll roll with that. Personally I’d prefer it was Tarot the weird/cute psychic Pom, rather than Tarot the supernatural dragon-type creature who was only posing as a dog in order to keep tabs on Pete

I think the drama came in when Peanut found out that he was in love with Grape. Also let me just point out to those that are saying that the magical dragon is a bit much, you're a bit late. We have an all powerful griffin (not to mention Pete), a human changed into a dog, and what everyone used to think was just a psychic dues-ex-Pomeranian. The dragon's nothing more than icing on the cake.
And then God saw the havoc that humanity had wrought upon the earth, and he said unto them 'muffins and cookies kids, get off my lawn'

I think your confusing all Drama for CS that's not how it works CS is when the Drama begins to over take the Comedy in a comedy series or at least becomes as important as the comedy and the comic begins to show an over arcing story. Which in this comic only really started in (appropriately titled in retrospect IMO) 'Oops I arced'. And I'm not even saying that the Comic has Cerebused yet I'm just saying its starting to go that way.
IceKitsune wrote:And really I think this comic has been on the road to Cerebus Syndrome since I2 really and even maybe a little before that.
I2?
I'm not sure if you can call it an onset of CS if more dramatic strips are interspersed between the usual funny stuff.
I2= Imaginate Too! And yes I believe you really can because CS is a slide toward drama and an over arcing plot I don't believe you have to get rid of all the comedy just that the drama has to take center stage.
Edit: By the way I didn't come up with that shorthand for Imaginate Too! and I forget who did. (just don't want to take credit for it I hate doing that.)
