Jim Lovell, captain of the Apollo 13 mission, played a role in the film Apollo 13.
The twist: He played as the captain of the USS Iwo Jima, who only appears once and at the end of the movie.

It is believed that if you secured a piece of toast, buttered-side up, on the back of a cat, and dropped it, then it is believed that the two beliefs that buttered toast always lands butter down and that a cat always lands on it's paws will combine to make an infinite spin that could reach the speed of light.
Alternatively, selling one bottle of milk for $3 and three for $10 will cause some people to buy 3 bottles individually, to prove that your price for 3 bottles is too high. They'd think you're stupid, but then you can tell them that the stupid that they're referring to made them buy three bottles of milk anyway.

True but I would have no idea which ones those were.
Do excuse my ignorance.
If the Earth were the size of a golf ball then the biggest start we've discovered would be the size of Mount Everest (The full size one, not the mini one on the golfball-sized Earth).

The chances of winnining the lottery (in a standard 40 number pool/seven number draw) are only 1 in 2.x10^11. To put that in perspective, if you took 2.x10^11 peas and lay them end-to-end they would encircle the equator 47.1 times!

Pick up some cheaply made piece of plastic. A coat hanger will do. That thin film of plastic along mold seams (middle of the hanger/plastic item) is called 'flash.'

Diet Coke and Coke Zero are the exact same drink.
Also Coke is most popular fizzy drink in every country in the world except in Scotland and India. In Scotland it is Iron Brew, and in India it is Pepsi.

Coke Zero is basically the same formula as regular coke, without the sugar and with a combination of two sweeteners to balance it.
Diet Coke is a formulation blended to taste good with aspartame only. There are rumors that New Coke was basically Diet Coke with sugar instead of aspartame.

Re: Useless Information Thread
That's only part of the fact. Santa was depicted as an elf before the Coca-Cola Company turned him into the portly, jolly man we know today. Elves typically are depicted to wear green, since they are spirits of the forest. Santa's suit was converted to the red with white lining because (go figure) the Coca-Cola Company's colors are also red and white. It just so happened that people liked New Santa more than Elf Santa.Hlaoroo wrote:Santa Clause originally wore green until the Coca Cola company turned him red.

Re: Useless Information Thread
The whole cat versus dog fight arises due to a miscommunication between the species. To a dog, wagging your tail means "I'm happy" or " I want to play." or "I'm content". On the other hand, to a cat it means "I'm angry", "I'm going to attack", or "Back off".
Dog says "I want to play."
Cat hears "I'm angry."
Cat says "Back off."
Dog hears "Let's play."
*Dog tries to play* *Cat defends itself*
We all know what happens from here.

Not in the sense that the Earth will be destroyed as well, because the Earth survived while the Moon was still a huge ring of asteroid dust. The tides will cease, which might kill the ocean ecosystem and systematically kill off all life over the course of a few decades or more.lasthunter wrote:if the moon is destroyed then the world will be doomed.
Now to a less morbid topic: the sniper rifle known to the Counter Strike community as the AWP is actually called the Accuracy International AWM, and although the two share a similar overall appearance they do have minor aesthetic differences.

Re: Useless Information Thread
there are actually two types of black holes....the supermassive and stellar-mass.....
i am the one who shall fight the mods, i am the one who shall find the loop holes and hidden ways, i am the one who shall lead with the flag, i am part of the rebellion, and i am its weapon.
Re: Useless Information Thread
Black holes are only distinguishable by three things: mass, angular momentum, and charge. Every other attribute of the matter that went into them is wiped out by the event horizon. Black holes aren't actually black, in fact small ones can be quite bright because they emit radiation due to quantum tunneling. Black holes can theoretically be any size, but only stellar size and larger are likely to be observable, because smaller could only have been created by the conditions of the early universe during what's known as the "Big Bang" and emit radiation faster than they absorb mass and so would have evaporated billions of years ago. This radiation is called "Hawking Radiation", named after the physicist Steven Hawking, who is also notable for his guest-star appearances on TV shows such as Star Trek and Big Bang Theory.
And now you know the rest of the story.

If an elephant had the metabolic rate of a mouse you could fry an egg on its skin.
If a mouse had the metabolic rate of an elephant it would need so much fur to keep warm enough that it would be the size of an elephant.
