Something came to me after readiong several posts about the new episode.
Spike probably tried to make a surprise party for Twilight, but because decided to bring her friends to see rarity, Spike waited until late at night to see Twilight, who was too tired for another party.
Which crushes Spike and makes him really sad, since he always saw the mane 6 as his friends, but now he knows that they don't see him the same way, which will lead to this next week:

Rarity talked to Twilight about making her a dress for her party about a week in advance, meaning Twilight knew about a party beforehand, so Spike would have to be pretty dumb to plan a surprise party for her when she was already planning to have a no-surprise party. All that changed was the location of the party, not the fact that she was already going to one.

still, sad. at least she failed on time. would have been worse if her failure was tardy.

Well, what I typed is more like a fanfiction. The most near cannon explanation is that Twilight just ditched Spike like in Party of One.
They didn't have to give Spike a talking role if they didn't know how to introduce his character at the episode. The background was fine. But his entire absence was weird to say the least.

He wasn't told a thing about it and it cause the whole origin of Cupckakes saga.

Technically, Pinkie never asked him if they were throwing her a party, she just scared the living daylights out of him, and then told him the answer she "wanted". After all, if he hadn't known about the party, how could he had ended up there at the end?

Anyway, I digress. Ponies!

he was keeping the party a secret from Pinkie because everyone else asked him to
there

the episode was good
i didn't care for the song too much
the party music was great
good moral
also Twilight has a great bad dance

Well, to be perfectly honest, I think that picture is kinda-

*gets hit on the head from behind, his unconscious body dragged away. Someone who looks exactly like him but with a black goatee sits down at the computer*

I probably shouldn't have written all of that down...ANYWAY! Yes, haha, I really like this version of Spike! The shading is incredible, the emotions clear! With him I shall rule the wor-I mean, make friends...yes.

I've been going on about how that pony with the top hat and bow tie is the 11th Doctor since the episode premiered! XD Aha, great minds think alike! And there is no conceivable way that 3rd Doctor pony is a mere coincidence, the resemblance is uncanny!

Although, I have always liked to think of that blue pony with orange hair as the Master, but it appears that is just me. MANIACAL LAUGH!
