I know what you mean sometimes it just sounds so darn cool.......Leafolawl wrote:I'm learning Russian 'cause its fun.
I just think it's more fun than english, simply because its harder to pronouce than engish.
It also feels prettier than english when I speak it.

Re: Languages
My point was that it's completely possible to learn so many languages. I think if you put time and effort into it, you can become fluent in as many as you like.Leafolawl wrote:They need to teach me ALL OF THEM!!! *goes berserk because I don't know even one different language*Teh Brawler wrote:If I'm not skewing my facts, I believe Condoleezza Rice speaks 15+ languages.
Of course, it helps to have a job that puts those into use

Re: Languages
I believe that Vladimir Putin (former president of the Russian Federation) knows about 6 languages or 4. I don't remember.
Oh, and don't even mention some of the Popes, they know lots of languages!

I know quite a bit of languages, some varying from HTML to CSS and Javascript, I am currently looking to C++ or Python though *bricked*.

Re: Languages
DISCUSSION QUESTION
What Pig-Latin rules do you guys abide by?
I've always done it by splitting the word before the first vowel, moving that first block of consonants to the end, and then adding ay, with the exception of words which begin with a vowel, in which case the second vowel is used. Words like "and" and "at" which begin with a vowel and have only one remain unchanged.
FOR EXAMPLE
Scramble ... Amblescray
Attack ... Ackattay
Arm ... Arm
Apparently, though, some people operate under the rule "First letter moves to end and ay is added." While simpler, this produces some awkward results.
Scramble ... Cramblesay
Attack ... Ttackaay
Arm ... Rmaay
SO am I the only one using my ruleset?

Re: Languages
well I always did it as the first phoneme (group of letters that have a specific sound such as "sh" and "ch" and "sc") goes to the end and add ay, while words that start with vowels just get "yay" added to the end.
EX:
Scram => amscray
attack => attackyay
a => ayay
then again, I rarely actually speak pig Latin.

I'm taking a Mandarin Chinese class at my college. It's just basic level, conversational Chinese though.

Re: Languages
I know how to say 'I do not speak Spanish' and 'I do not understand, please speak English' in Spanish, and I know very little Latin despite my having taken three years of it x3
Re: Languages
Spanish is pretty easy to learn, just remember that adjectives can go before or after the noun depending o. The context.

Re: Languages
Spanish is hard... specially if you live among people that suck at writing, talking, etc.
Well, not really (About Spanish. Spanish is not that hard)

Re: Languages
I'm fairly sure that Spanish is one of, if not the, easiest language for English speakers to learn because of the relatively similar pronunciations and the amount of cognates. And, for Americans at least, the amount of exposure to it relative to other languages.
Or maybe it's for completely different reasons I'm not a linguist.

Lose the 'merican accent when speaking Spanish. In Spanish speaking countries, they don't care how fluent you are, they will point and laugh if you sound American.
