valerio wrote:"That's super!" Rikki said. "Let's get something to stuff in a pet bag, then we can go there and share a nice meal!" And before the other two could say anything about it, the ferret, showing a certain strength for a creature her size, dragged the cat inside. "Did I tell you already that I don't like being told 'no'?"
"Well, that would be ok, I guess..." Saphia said, not wanting to be rude, or say 'no' to Rikki.
xhunterko wrote:"Oh, I think I remember you now!" Mitch said, remembering Saphia's quiet shyness. He was just a little nervous himself, but, he had wanted to try and get over that. Especially about going to the park.

Weren't there a lot of pets at a park? Oh boy. What did I get myself into?

"I mean, not that I know you or anything, but, I remember seeing you by yourself and thought you w-were just like me. So you'd be perfect for talking to to get to know everyone without, heh, making a fuss," Mitch said, chuckling slightly at Rikki dragging the poor kitty along.

"So, uh, what's your, name th-then," He asked, trying not to ask who Grey was.
The red panda was not like Saphia had thought he would be. She had expected him to be more assertive at least, but he seemed just as nervous as her.Well, you know what they say Saphia. You can't judge a book by it's cover... Wait a minute... Saphia realized she no longer had her book. I must have dropped it when I hid in the bushes. I guess I can go get it later. Saphia turned her attention back to the panda, Mitch, as Rikki had called him earlier. "Oh, um, I-I'm Saphia..."

"Wow you finally found someone? That's great to hear Val!" He said patting the dog on the shoulder. "I'm so happy for you!" He said as Grey walked up to the group. "Hey Grey, how are you today?" he asked as he waved to the dog. "So tell us who is he?" Lance asked.

Dakotah walked to the area of the park and looked around and quickly saw the group of pets all gathered around in an area. He jogged over to them "Hey guys," he started "Isn't this just the cool hangout spot?" he asked.

"TV?" Nate said, "I thought the only use for that thing was watching movies and concerts.... And occasionally a live feed from somewhere."

Valiant showed again that big grin, as he laid down on his back, arms crossed behind his head, eyes lost in a dreay expression.
Tall, strong and wild. The prince of the woods, master of the hunt. His name is Belisarius and we're so lifemated. Hmm-m! It's not just 'love', it's the most ancient and powerful bond, Lance. We belong to each other, forever, this is the way with wolves." Valiant let out a dreamy sigh that matched his expression.

Rikki came back to Saphia and Mitch, who were exchanging pleasantries -at least she hoped so.
The ferret was holding three paper bags from where a delicious series of aromas wafted. "I think I bought enough chicken, sauces and sweets to feed an army. Wanna make it to the park? We should find plenty of pets to play with."

"Saphia huh? that's a, uh, sweet name," Mitch asked, thankful that she at least said something, having noticed her look around, he continued, "Are you missing something?" He almost whispered.

Maybe this wasn't such a good idea.

Am I that easy to read?

"Oh come on," Mitch said in response, taking the bag, "I'm not anti-social. I'm just, nervous around, l-large groups."

Well, I hope these aren't sticky. I HATE sticky fingers.

Just to be sure though, he swiped a fork off the utensil counter and came back.

"Just like poor Saphia here," Mitch said, "I must've s-scared her half to death. Oh. S-sorry, name's Mitch by the w-way."

Mitch took a whiff of the bag before looking in.

Oh lovely! Not sticky!

He popped one in his mouth and slowly began chewing.

Rikki stuffed a piece of fried chicken in her mouth, swallowed it then said, "What you two need is a high degree of exposure to the love of the masses. Relax, Mitchy-boy. Worst that can happen is that you and Val join forces to create the hermit pet club. Now let's go: this is such a nice day to waste into melancholies."

Mitch sighed, shuddered a bit, then sighed again.

Well, you wanted to do this today remember?

Yeah, I guess I did.

"All right, let's go then," Mitch said in response, holding the door open for the both of them. Not without, of course, grabbing his crossbow.

At least I got this to feel secure with. Heh.

"I never spent a dime of my allowance, since we moved here, and I need to celebrate this special day. Everyone hungry enough please raise paw nau!"

"Heh, glad you like it," Mitch said, hoisting it up to a carry position so she could see better, "I did a lot of the outside work. The carving, the metal bow, the handle. My mother helped me with the rest. And, funny story about that. We didn't used to arm ourselves. Except one t-time we got hit with a snow leapord raid and then w-we got hit b-by a wolf pack. After that w-we used spears. Then the orginazation came. Spears weren't so much use then. S-so we finally got smart and now almost everyone has one."

I hope Saphia finds what she was looking for earlier.

Mitch then sniffed towards the park.

Whoa, what is that?

He stopped for a moment and tried to process what it was. It was only faint, distant, and not too strong, yet. But it worried Mitch enough. Aside from the other pets of course, but this smell was mixed in with it. Still, the only thing that came to mind was big, red flag.

Rikki frowned. "What's wrong, pal? You look like you smelled the devil..." Then she too, instinctively took a whiff at the air. What the..? A wolf?" she looked around, but the only scent of the source seemed to be... "Valiant?"

"What, what'd you pick up? What about Valiant?" Mitch asked.

"Wolf," was all she said. Rikki motioned Mitch to follow her, as she approached the group, where her friend was talking at the phone. And yes, Valiant definitely smelled as if he had a tussle with a feral, a BIG one...
But also, and that was what puzzled her, Valiant was smiling. He was so happy he radiated.
What had happened, that made him smile? Perhaps he defended Lance from a wolf... Yes, that made sense...

Mitch closely followed behind her and kept silent. The smell got stronger now and he worried exactly where it was coming from. He almost didn't notice the other pets. Mostly becuase he was on full alert, jitterish, and for some reason, angry at Valiant.

But why?

Mitch looked around the houses and at the woods. Tightening his grip on his crossbow all the more.

Finally, Valiant noticed Rikki and Mitch approaching. He finished placing the orders, then put back the phone and ran to the ferret. He lifted her, hugged her tight and kissed her forehead. "Rikki! Dio, if I'm happy to see you!"
Rikki was just too much surprised to react to that unexpected change of mood. Instead, she said, "Boss, ew, you stink like you rolled in a wolf rug!"

Saphia went the opposite way down the street, to get her book. She went over to the bush and saw it almost immediately, lying flat on the ground. She picked it up, dusted it off, and held it her paw. Now that I have my book, I can head to the park. And she did just that. She turned around and walked toward the park, Rikki and Mitch a ways ahead of her. I hope Grey didn't have to wait to long... She saw the park and the group of pets in front of her. Oh, there's Grey. She thought as she walked towards him.

"Boss, ew, you stink like you rolled in a wolf rug!"
Phew, so that's what happened, no worries then. At least, hopefully.
She thought as she walked towards him.
Oh, so that's Grey. Heh, cute couple. Oh hey, there's Lance.

Mitch walked up to him and Kurt.

"H-hey buddy," Mitch said, "Did Jen already leave for work today?"

Valiant held Rikki by her arms as if she had been a baby doll. "You could say that, so to speak. I have a wolf for mate!"
The ferret's jaw fell down to the ground. Valiant described Belisarius and everything he could about that very special morning, letting out the most...intimate details.
And if, for a minute or two, Rikki had thought Val's solitude had deep-fried his neurons, the scent was telltale enough. Oh, yes. "You mated...bonded with a wolf? A feral?"
Valiant nodded happily.
"Ussignur," she muttered. Mom and Dad were so NOT going to like this...

Code: Select all

...a wolf?
And then Mitch suddenly stopped and stood stock still. His crossbow hand was shaking, his other was clenching open and closed. The fur on the back of his neck bristled. His teeth clenched and he scratched the pavement with his toe claws.

A wolf? Are you insane?!

Shamrock shook his head "Naw, you know where Charger's house is? Come over there, I'm hanging out with him." Charger turned back and smiled, he always liked being addressed as a friend of Sham's, after all he, was the first pet he met at Sunset.

Rikki was about to speak her mind, about that very peculiar choice, when she realized that, if things had come to this point, it was her fault as well.
Her gaze went to Lance: Valiant had a crush on dobermans, and Lance could've been the perfect partner. Instead, she had almost forced Val into making out with Darien...
And thus, Rikki smiled. "What can I tell ya, boss? If you like to play it dangerously, go for it. Just keep the guy away from the 'hood, least they start sending the posse for him, kay? AND we'll talk with mom and dad about this."
The Italian Wolf nodded, then put his friend down. "But you must also meet him. Tomorrow, when I'll go back to the church."
"Can be done..." then the ferret smelled another thing: fear. Raw and untainted, it came in waves out of "Mitch? Are you all right?"
