Apparently they're re-making Looney Tunes.

Post by Anthroguy101 »

Yes, you heard me. They are making a new Looney Tunes series. Information can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Looney_Tunes_Show.

Admittedly, this is something I've been waiting years for. I just hope it doesn't suck. What do you guys think?

CaptainPea wrote:Apparently they're developing a new Looney Tunes show- from what I've seen I have mixed thoughts but I'm willing to be optimistic. On the one hand, the writing and animation are noticeably more polished than most of what's on TV, and it doesn't feel like it's trying too hard. On the other hand the characters seem to be interpreted slightly different than what I've seen before. Let's just wait and see and hope for the best.

The best I've seen of it is this

I agree, Bugs worries me because it looks like they're trying to play him as a straight man, which doesn't work.

The cartoon itself was pretty good. It is a lot like the older ones, in my opinion. Don't kill me on that comment, please.
Actually yes, same actor.
And I like the humor in these clips better than textbook Looney Toones*, actually, mostly because it's a hint drier.
The main thing that worries me is, as I said, character interpretations. I need to see a little more lighthearted snarky banter and wit before I can believe that's really Bugs Bunny.

*I'm leaving this spelling mistake here just to let the record show that I can't spell "Tunes"
I think this^

It's growing on me, I like the sense of humor.

It looks okay from the previews I have seen. Different, but not missing the mark...

as I've said in another thread, Daffy's voice sounds good, but Bugs' voice sounds nothing like the original in some spots.

Luckily, no. Well. except for those Road Runner shorts, but luckily they aren't the bulk of the show.

You know, oddly enough, I pretended the show's characters weren't originally from Looney Tunes and I kinda liked it. :P

Anyway, from what I've seen it looks decent. I think I'm always gonna prefer the originals, but this has given me some giggles here and there.

Just to reiterate what I said earlier:
I found both clips to be rather dull especially when compared to the original Looney Tunes.
The first clip had some funny lines, but I don't enjoy those types of situations (so this one may just be me ;) )
But I thought the second one just had no life. It moved slowly and Bugs' comment on Daffy's antics fell flat for me. It was a comment one makes when one has nothing better to say, not a well timed comedic punch like I expect to see from Bugs.

Overall, it would have been quite disappointing if I'd been expecting any better

What clips are these? There are far more than 2 clips out there.

Anyways, I think it's kind of a smart move to not try and imitate the original shorts, since all attempts to do that have been pretty bad. At least this show has accepted that and is trying to do something new, instead of just doing a flat imitation of classic Looney Tunes.

I'm curious to see how this turns out. I think if they're really careful it could turn out great. I think the clips are a little too short to really tell right now.

Well times change with this, so it's no surprise Comedy would as well.

Eventually they needed to slowly change it, after all keeping at it wouldn't work as well unless they could pull of an Animaniacs or Tiny Toons writing style.

Ah! I am suddenly made aware that the two clips did not transfer to the new topic

I was speaking of the Daffy Duck high school reunion and the Basketball game clips (in that order).
Sorry to cause confusion. ;)

I would call this more of a reboot than a remake.

I don't think you can really remake a cartoon series in the traditional sense of the word. So I think remake and reboot are interchangeable in this context.

If it has the same classic humor of looney tunes of old i'll like it.

if it's turned into a politically correct, far-left, "morals teacher", squeaky clean, cartoon like all the new crap on TV nowadays then it can Burn for all i care.

I think as long as it's good and clever, slightly risque, and is a "how it would be made with today's sensibilities," it will be good.

I sure hope that the new cartoon is worth watching, 'cause I like Looney Tunes. It may not be as good as the old ones, which is probably the way it's going to be.

There I fixed it. I must appease the moderator.

Missed the premiere, but I want to see the one that airs next, because I'm liking it better the more I see of it, and people seem to be warming up to it.

Also, it's a well animated show on national television. That alone is worth seeing it for at least once.

Finally got around to seeing a couple episodes, and so far I'm reasonably impressed.
It has good animation and a better sense of timing than most cartoons do today. There were a handful of sight gags that I thought were pretty funny. It also has a good sense of completeness about it, I like that they chose a half hour format instead of 11 minutes.

The main problem I see with it is that it doesn't really know what it wants to be - if it wants to be a character based animated sitcom, the characters need to be a bit more three dimensional (Bugs still feels weird to me). If it wants to be a zany cartoon, it needs to push the wackiness a bit further. I think this is excusable for the moment, though, since it's still finding its footing.

Ya, when I watched it, it felt less like Loony Toons and more like a cartoon sitcom. Not to say thats a bad thing, I just wasn't expecting it.

Yeah, that's the premise they're running with. I don't mind it, but I think they need to fully commit to it to make it work.

Oh yeah. I watched the first episode a while back and loved it. The humor is very Looney Toons-ish, which makes it kind of flow with the original cartoon.
