1) When Fox is going to believe how Joel was turned into a dog
2) When King is safe behind some very thick layers of reinforced concrete
3) when Fox's owner is sedated for good

Or maybe, King will try to speak in favor of Joel saying he used to be a dog 'freed' from previous owners...

Oh you finally decided to show your face, huh!

Also: You are on the ball. And I was sort of afraid there may have been three times and then I'd have to be corrected over it.

Of course then I'd just change the alt text to a Monty Python thing and then people in the know would get it.

*coughs* As you see, it goes from snarksnarksnark to various O.o to despair to...well, he looks hilarious when his pupils dilate. Don't know why I did this in retrospect...but it took all of ten minutes so it wasn't much of a production. Gives a good visual progression of King so far. <.<

there probably wouldn't be much point to showing the squeaky bone fight really, other than to make us happy and give us some insight into what they now consider to be fighting over a squeaky bone... maybe we'll still get to see it? :D

More like, "Hey, Bino, where'd you get that grenade?" Yup. In case we needed ANY confirmation, Bino's a jerk. As for King, nice and true slapstick.

and yes, Bino is indeed mean. now won't it be funny to see King chasing Bino around the streets with a shoe?

Hm. At this point, even presuming a triple-size spread for Christmas, we’re down to twenty panels or so... (Unless Rick goes with the longer tradition, and goes with the twelfth night / January 6'th) So lets try and guess: what do you think NEEDS to be covered, what would you like to see covered, and how many panels would that fill?

Rick will doubtless surprise everyone, but guessing games are always fun.

Here are some of my guesses as to possible panels, what are yours?
  • Fox’s reaction to Bino’s “present” - and perhaps some of the other dogs. How better to show that most of the dogs are nice people even if, like humans, there are a few exceptions?

Joel/King admits his real identity to Fox.

Joel/King has to deal with being covered in catnip on the way home.

Joel/King giving someone a present, either of choice or chosen for him at random like last time. Could be Fox (for maximum cuteness and implied apology), Bino (for a reprise of Peanut’s “retaliation”), one of the police dogs (for maximum awkwardness), Peanut (because Peanut and Grape haven’t been in the last few strips and to allow some conversation about Bino), or various others.

Joel/King meets one or more of the other pets - perhaps Grape (who is surely still suspicious), Tarot and/or Sabrina (who may know more than the rest - which would certainly confuse Joel/King), or one or more of the dogs who tackled him.

Joel/King giving some consideration as to “why” - is this a second chance, or just a lesson?

Joel/Kings final confrontation with Pete. Will he be grateful, upset, still not see the point, or have something to say?

Joel/King deciding whether this is real. At the moment, for all we know, he still thinks it’s a dream and has just relaxed into a pleasant fantasy.

Joel/King really realizing that - when (if) he gets back to human - he’s going to be in an even bigger mess than before.

Pete giving some reason why this was worth his time. After all, Joel is only one human out of (presumably) some billions. Why would an (at least) semi-unique magical being bother?

Some sort of decision scene. Joel/King is featuring in this arc, and some major decision - besides attending a Christmas party - is probably in order. I’d bet on whether or not to go back to being human, but there are lots of other possibilities. That could be a climactic scene with the details after Christmas of course.
If Joel/King stays King:
  • Who winds up as his owner? Pete moving in as “Gaspar” permanently seems a bit unlikely. Does he wind up attached to the Ferrets like Miles and his pack? Moved in with Fox like someone else has suggested?

Who will find out about his old identity?

    Will PETA get involved again?

How well has he adjusted to being a dog? There are probably lots of habits that would signal that something was odd about him to any observant onlooker.
If Joel/King goes back to being Joel:
  • How his disappearance/escape and reappearance get explained to the police (It wouldn’t be much of a Christmas comic if things got worse for him because Pete kidnaped him. While martyrdom to redeem others is also a Christmas theme, I doubt it would fit into Housepets well).

    Fox testifying at his trial.

    The trial outcome.

What Fatty was sentenced to, and whether or not it will differ from Joel’s sentence?

Will there be any lasting changes in Joel? At this point, his options are a bit restricted anyway.

Will Fox miss King much? - and will he recognize “King” and forgive Joel if he sees Joel in human form?
Things I'd Like To See:
  • The squeaky bone fight.

How did Joel’s kidnaping end up and what happened to Joel’s pets?

A human (perhaps Fox’s “dad”) meeting - and possibly petting - Joel/King. How would he react to that?

Joel/King and a Christmas dinner. After all, if Grape and Peanut get to eat turkey at the table for Thanksgiving, an invitation to a formal meal would be an interesting contrast to his initial introduction to being a dog.
But over-analyzing things is half the fun!

I always wondered why Peanut just left that cat tail drawing just lying around. He's obviously embarrassed when Grape sees it, but if he didn't want her to look at it (as he claims, in a kind of suspicious way), then he shouldn't have torn it out of his sketchbook and left it out where she could find it.

I'm a super-lurker. And I have this crazy thing about only posting when I have something to say.

I had something to say when there was that argument going on a week or two ago with people complaining about Housepets supposedly changing genres, but that complaint seems to come up every other arc, so I won't have to wait long.

Oh, also to make this post relevant... I always like it when Bino's a jerk. Maybe he'll get a lump of coal for Christmas
