Re: POLL: So... Who here's a furry?
I'd like to say "I'm a furry" to my offline friends and not get completely outcasted. Then again I can't say a lot of things about me without being outcasted so its nothing new.

In all honesty I really would too. It sometimes feels that the people I call friends don't really know me. It's not even enjoying furry stuff, there's so much I don't tell anyone. At least the internet is decently anonymous, but I really didn't take the time to separate myself from my real name. It's real easy to look me up. Specially since my name is unique and its tied to my real name in places.

It sure is easy to have an alias that appears in the dictionary. ^.^
Anyway, don't worry about if your friends know it. If you show your interest in furry stuff, but not the shady stuff a lot of people associate with furries, then it's perfect; they'll only get the idea that you're a furry if they truly knows what that means.

I'll watch whatever that show is. Unless it's Oprah.Flamboyant-Pencil wrote:Still, our media doesn't really show furries in a positive light. Name one TV show that concerned furries in a positive, or even neutral light.

I'm a furless furry. I have a body made out of energy that fakes it. So does that count?

Oh god what is happening in your avatar Peanut is Grape and Grape is Peanut.
On a related note: CSI, ATHF, news networks, I think Law and Order, and Bones have had shows about furries, which portray them mostly negatively.

There have been a few news networks that did not portray us negatively. There have even been the rare stories that are positive.
Also, ATHF has done it too? Ugh. As if I didn't already dislike that show enough.

Re: POLL: So... Who here's a furry?
There are shows that could be counted as furry shows that portray them well. That is, if we count the sonic cartoons like that.
Also, did CSI do 1, Maybe 2, episode(s) that even had furrys in them? I haven't seen those episodes, but I doubt it could be that bad. As of news broadcasts, when do they ever portray anything in good light? Other then that, I think most of our media just ignores fandoms like furry.

Re: POLL: So... Who here's a furry?
CSI did, as far as I know, one episode. I illegally downloaded the episode so I could see what it was like. Me, the lawful good Sleet, pirated it. That shows how much I don't give a rat's tail about the unfair exchange of that particular piece of intellectual property. And when I saw it, my negative expectations were met. The portrayal was in fact quite bad. The furry convention was an PIKACHUUU of socially awkward men and one woman. I don't know anyone who's seen that episode, but I've heard of other people who know people who only know of furries from that episode, and their view of us is as you would expect from that.
Another thing I discovered when I saw that episode was how incredibly dumb of a show CSI was. I can't believe people watch that.

LOL. It beeps! Millions of dollars spent on advanced forensics computer equipment only to have it beep and spoon feed you the exact details you need. Heck it even tells you the room number in a plain, easy to read red letter. I wish it were that easy :/Liam wrote:I wouldn't speak so disparagingly of them, otherwise they gonna track your room.

Okay, question for all the people on here: What are your fursonas? Mine is an Arctic Wolf. White fur, black tail.

But I am currently considering a new one, (one with more fur)

Second version
So this is my main fursona, but I have more. I have a dalmatian with green eyes, that I also used to make an RP character, just like my main fursona. I have others, too.

It means the forum's getting furrier. The poll used to say we made up 2 of every 3 members, now it's closer to 3 of every 4.

Yeah... Does this work?
Still haven't colored it. But yeah, it's a grey wolf.
For those who are wondering... Yes, I am a furry, but on a rather low level. I'm not into the really weird stuff.

You have levels? Okay, how about me?Sleet wrote:I prefer to call that "normal level."
My girlfriend and I are furries. We both have fursonas (Me: Siberian Husky. Her: Cream colored Tabby Cat) We both are interested in making ears and tails corresponding to our fursonas, but we wouldn't wear them in public (except among friends). We might go to a convention. We will NOT fursuit, because it's kinda weird (fursuiting is weird, not fursuiters.)

I personally would prefer to see a spectrum of what you consider "normal" and "above" and "below" it, and then determine from that where I lie thereon, rather than the other way around.Sleet wrote:Sounds like you're slightly above normal level to me.

I think we know the comic's target audience. BTW I'm a dog, with white fur and blue stripes/spots, who used to live in Minneapolis.
Re: POLL: So... Who here's a furry?
Low: Think of anthropomorphic characters are cute/cool, having thoughts that being one would be awesome.
Medium: Wishing to be an anthropomorphic character, doing something related to furries every day if possible (Like, uh, reading HP), having a fursona, drawing furries, wearing ears, tail or a collar from time to time.
High: Wishing to be an anthropomorphic character, *scrubbed* , fursuiting, going to furry conventions.
Having 2/4 of any category makes you belong to that category. Don't forget that this is just my own opinion.

Re: POLL: So... Who here's a furry?
One of the above topics is not welcome in this thread. Also, that one thing is not really indicative of how much of a furry one is because there are some people who are furries in that way only.
It's kind of hard to really define an average since furries aren't average in the first place, but that's just how I feel I about it.
I'd just say a typical "normal" furry would be someone who considers anthropomorphs attractive (in the broadest sense of the word), fully acknowledges this trend in his or her art/entertainment tastes, probably has some variety of a fursona even if it's as simple as "I'm a meerkat," and to some degree associates with other furries, usually online. He or she might also draw furry art, but not necessarily exclusively. A "lower-level" furry is just one who has a passing interest in anthropomorphs and doesn't do much else except minor things like drawing them on occasion, and a "higher-level" furry might do the conventions, the dressing up, etc.ChewyChewy wrote:I personally would prefer to see a spectrum of what you consider "normal" and "above" and "below" it, and then determine from that where I lie thereon, rather than the other way around.Sleet wrote:Sounds like you're slightly above normal level to me.

By that ranking Sleet, I'm definitely a typical "normal furry".
I'm also a Platinum Burmilla while we're on the subject of fursonas.

The "drawing" anthro stuff is a quite risky thing to say, because, some ppl are drawing furry art but not to express themselves, but to make money out of it. Even I earned some coins for grading up some furry artwork, but I woudn't refer me as a furry in any case...

Re: POLL: So... Who here's a furry?
I think they meant when drawing art for yourself; so if in your leisure time you draw anthropomorphic animals, that counts towards being a furry. I might be wrong, but I assume that's what they meant.Jakkal wrote:The "drawing" anthro stuff is a quite risky thing to say, because, some ppl are drawing furry art but not to express themselves, but to make money out of it.
