The dragon's reaction was expected AND unexpected :/
Re: 2013/08/19 - Tearing Down The House
I feel bad for spirit dragon now. And looks like the pets are going to get their waterpark after all. In the form of bitter dragon tears...
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left.

... Someone hand her some ice cream ... now.
Re: 2013/08/19 - Tearing Down The House
Peanut's right, he doesn't know Dragon very well. This is actually the logical choice. But it never feels good to break someone's heart, I would imagine.

Well I was expecting it to go back to Max and Grape this strip but an earlier answer to this is very nice. I really don't understand exactly what Dragon expected to happen here its kind of silly of her to think he would pick her over Tarot. If they had gone on a few dates and they had got to know each other better sure, then I could see her thinking it being possible but after just one its kind of a pipe dream on her part.
Depending on how Dragon recovers from this I could see that happening.Xane wrote:

Hmm well can here Pete and the Kyubi snickering off in the distance "What a drama queen"
Though honestly kinda feels bad for the dragon but she did bring this onto to herself by not being upfront with her feelings for peanut in the first place.

That was... quick. I hope Dragon won't get too disheartened after this.

Aw, I feel bad for Dragon but this had to happen sooner or later. I wonder if Pete will try to comfort her or just laugh at her.

Um. That's kind of the point. People work like that, dude. Teenagers work like that, particularly. Um. She is, kind of. The whole Universes & Unrealities crew is a group of adolescents playing a game.Gren wrote:The problem here is that she's not a teenager at all.
In any case, teenagers aren't the only people who don't operate 100% on logic.

It is unsettling to know the powers that be are mentally a handful of adolescents. However, it was mentioned before that perhaps our mortal minds cant comprehend it so really all of this is a metaphor.

Sure really young teenagers, like 13-15 year olds, older then that and your getting into your just being stupid/self absorbed territory.Dissension wrote:Um. That's kind of the point. Careful, dude, you might be getting into territory that could be considered hostile or abusive to other users. Not everyone, even adults, behaves logically 100% of the time.

plenty of people act illogically like this. no one's saying that means Dragon wasn't being naive to think Peanut's answer would be anything other than what it was. Love can make people do stupid things.

I'm in no way saying that I think people should, or do behave logically 100% of the time, I really don't know how you are getting that from my posts. However there is a massive difference between not thinking logically and thinking that someone you dated once and barely know is going to leave his girlfriend of at least 2 years and date you now after one date.Dissension wrote:Careful, dude, you might be getting into territory that could be considered hostile or abusive to other users. Agreeing to go on a date with someone other than your significant other is usually a pretty good sign you're looking for something else.

Yes except, unless I misinterpreted something, both Dragon and Tarot knew that Peanut didn't understand they were separate people hence setting this whole thing up in the first place.Dissension wrote:Agreeing to go on a date with someone other than your significant other is usually a pretty good sign you're looking for something else.

Well, this does make sense. No matter how much she disagrees, she is the same as Pete and Kitsune. None of them have much experience in dealing with anything to do with mortals, much less romantic intention. To her, perhaps a single date is the first of many, and she sees far beyond what Peanut thought was a normal date with his girlfriend. Or it could be that she was only thinking of her feelings and just assumed that he would feel the same way once she said something.
That sound! It is the sound of ultimate suffering... my heart made that sound when they killed my father. Points if you get the awesome reference!
Well, Peanut, you made your choice, now you have to deal with a dragon and two wet cats...

In retrospect I guess it shows that Dragon was purposely trying to ruin Tarot's date when she couldn't come up with spaghetti for their "Lady and the Tramp" meal, and as such using traditional writing tropes, had to be ultimately crushed. Still sad though, I was hoping her character could be explored more in the comic (IIRC she only appeared in about 12 strips before this arc) and seemed to be on the verge of becoming the most three dimensional of the Cosmic Nerds.
On the other hand Rick's surprised us before so... lets see where he's going with this.

Perhaps Peanut will do something to satisfy her from crying. Probably much to the dismay of Tarot like going on another date. Highly unlikely though I know but peanut did say he didn't truly know her so this may be his chance to get to know her better.GarrisonSkunk wrote:In retrospect I guess it shows that Dragon was purposely trying to ruin Tarot's date when she couldn't come up with spaghetti for their "Lady and the Tramp" meal, and as such using traditional writing tropes, had to be ultimately crushed. I can't stand seeing poor Spirit Dragon crying. so that's why it's been raining so hard today...
It's gonna take a lot of hugs and ice cream to calm her down.

The heart believes in Pipe dreams. It's the thing that has so many teenage girls believing their favourite pop star will fall in love with them. The heart's driven by what we want, not what's logical and the same's true for Dragon.IceKitsune wrote:Well I was expecting it to go back to Max and Grape this strip but an earlier answer to this is very nice. If this goes the worst way possible, Tarot no longer being Dragons Avatar, or even pretty bad, Tarots powers weaken even more due to them fighting, (which I think will happen) then yeah I would put money on Pete as well.Ryusuta wrote:Well... This isn't looking good for those three, is it?

However saying Pete has only done some boneheaded things is kind of an understatement really. I think only one of his plans has even worked at this point, having the temple moved (and that was actually a retcon), every other plan hes had has been either out done by Dragon or backfired on him.
