Sorrow:

Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, passed away peacefully earlier today at the age of 96. She was one of the most beloved and respected leaders of all time and her loss will be keenly felt across not just across the Commonwealth, but worldwide.

The Queen is dead! Long live the King!

May she rest in peace, and my sincerest condolences to the people of the Commonwealth.

Although I'm over 70, I don't remember a time when Elizabeth II wasn't around. Her passing really seems to end an era. She was always, as they say, "a class act" and will be deeply, deeply missed - perhaps more than we realize as yet. God hold her close, very good luck to King Charles III, and (to echo Harry) all condolences to the good folk of the Commonwealth.

Good to see you are improving Amazee

The end of the 2nd Elizabethan era and an even longer reign than Queen Victoria. Quite something to consider the span of history both covered in their reigns and the social and technological changes that took place. Going to take some getting used to the fact the UK (and elsewhere) no longer has a Queen but a King. Amazing to think of the amount of people the Queen must have spoken to over her lifetime.

I need to learn to keep quiet sometimes. I am a very opinionated person but this isn't exactly conductive to making friends (or keeping them).

Last week, our section of town discovered that their water supply is contaminated with e-coli. So we've been boiling water for the last several days. The EPA recently recommended that we put in a water purification system, something a bit more up-to-date and dependable than the current one which, I'm told, relies on straining water through beach towels abandoned on the seashore by the summer tourists.

Throughout New England, all the birds say "tweet, tweet, tweet" except in my town. Here they say "cheap, cheap, CHEAP!"

I'm intrigued if the towel thing is a joke or some ingenious recycling scheme, if real and it works then I'm impressed! As far as I am aware we mostly use gravel beds for filtration.

Your comment makes me thankful the NHS exists over here Amazee, hope you manage to get it sorted. A pain (literally and metaphorically) you have to get it through insurance I would imagine.

It's a joke, DD ... and given how literal and serious some folks can be, perhaps an ill chosen one. E-coli is serious stuff and you cannot strain it out of water through any sort of home remedy sort of device. As we now enter "Day Eleven", my town is handing out cases of bottled water to residents of the infected area. Since we don't mind boiling water, we'll let someone else take it - don't know how many cases they have and wouldn't want someone more needing to go without on our account.

That said, I hope this incident prompts the townfolk to take pollution concerns a bit more seriously - especially now that rising Covid cases among children are on the brink of overwhelming our pediatric facilities.

I did storework for a time, a number of places. I kinda enjoyed it because I liked serving people. That said, it can grind you down, in part because some people think that part of your work is being their personal doormat ("The customer is always right even when the customer ain't all that bright"). Another factor was that, in many of those jobs, once you reached a certain pay grade, they'd let you go because there were always nine other people waiting to take you place at far lower pay (that was in the 1968-1973 era when trilobites ruled the muck).

Here's to better opportunities for you Cy!
