It’s not easy to argue ethics
especially if they don’t make sense
and your better half’s worse half
won’t let you sit on the fence.
Keene’s bargaining for his life
against someone who cannot be trusted.
I hope he sees the irony here
and just how his tactics were busted.
Nega is fighting to get better
although he may end up feeling worse
as feelings flood back into being
he might find them quite the curse.

I admit, I had completely glossed over this until literally just this moment.

So, yes, how does this work in a world where a hamburger could have asked you very nicely not to eat it? Because that's the line for me: As soon as it can ask, it's off the menu.

From what was seen down on the farm, Cows don't seem to have the same sentience level. Or they just don't care.

Yeah, but we’ve seen Grape kill sentient mice and birds who do care.

The answer is that morals are an artificial social construct. Even in our world. You’re not allowed to kill anyone in your tribe, but other tribes are fair game. And lest you don’t think that applies to modern times, I refer you to any current military conflict.

That's one evil grin. x3

Also, one thing that sorta bugs me is how they know so much about this topic in general, but I waived it off at this point since i'm certain they can study these topics. I consider them something that would be way out of their topic range unless something down the road got them into it.

I think it's funnier to just assume that it's okay to eat certain animals specifically because they're tastier. Obviously nothing really can be done to make the ethics make sense.
Also I think it's interesting that Negabreel doesn't consider that his mortal self will regret killing his own boyfriend. Does regret not count as a negative trait? Or perhaps its a positive? Although Breel doesn't seem to experience regret either. Maybe there's like certain things that neither side has because they're not really good or bad, just neutral.
I came here looking for (noun), but this is so much better!

Hey Keene. You know if it takes a long time to explain it to Nega Breel then it will take a long time before he can kill you. Maybe you should explain it all and hopefully help will arrive soon.

That might be too evil even for him.

Eh, never trust your negative side, Breel... :? He's going to kill also Keene, of course, and just because of the reason to hate rich ones... :o Huh, don't give him bad ideas, Keene, or he'll really kill you before Breel, so he won't have killing regrets by doing the contrary. :| Combining NegaBreel with Breel will fuse both personalities and sides together, indeed, making a totally new mortal character which wouldn't suit either of both... Yeah, Keene, explain the human regret in eating meat is a lot more difficult for a carnivorous like you. :P ;)

Nah, just of the vegan movement

I'd kind of like to see Keene explain because the argument in the real world goes something like
  1. Cows are stupid (too dumb to live)
  2. We already have them anyway (Dairy, grassland management)
  3. You don't kill 'em yourself
  4. There's a lesser environmental impact than, say, with deer because you're not taking it out of the ecosystem, you're taking it out of a farm
  5. You need the nutrients you can only get from meat to survive and cow meat is healthier than other kinds of meat
  6. Those recipes are our heritage and the taste cannot be replicated with anything else
They are all basically incorrect for different reasons, though but I can't see any of these arguments being different in the Housepets world

Being vegetarian, I can't disagree, Frank. Rick's been toying with these issues ever since Grape and Peanut went to Rufus's farm pretty early on in the strip. On the other hand, it's been decades since a character "got et". However and anyways, maybe Keene can keep Naga-Breel monologuing long enough for the cavalry to arrive.

If I was in Keene's position, that is what I would do. Also explain it very excruciatingly slowly.
