WELCOME TO HOUSEPETZ: SURVIVORS UNTIED V.3 (Please be sure to update your character sheets)!

Simple Background:
Welcome to Kantra: A once thriving megalopolis, now home to those wanting to survive the after-effects of Z-Day (When the Dead began their assault on the world). Those lucky enough to escape the initial attacks and make it out of the city now either live in military camps or with one of the many factions roaming the wastelands and those who inhabit the city. All hope is not lost, however. Even as the world crumbles around them, the citizens of Kantra have not given up! They are determined to defend what's left and take their city back from the Dead! The citizens have fortified their positions against undead attack, and are eager to push back and do their part to survive. It is time for you to join them. It is time for you to play your own part in the reconstruction of society! Will you be a brilliant engineer, working to fortify and upgrade the weapons and facilities? Will you scout out the infested sections of Kantra and the Wilderness? Will you hunt and gather to bring in food for the hungry survivors, or force the undead back as a warrior? Perhaps you will be a doctor, healing the sick and injured, and tending to the needy. Whatever you choose, and whomever you are, your help is needed, both in the forts and out in the wilderness.

Will You Help Us?

Basic Roles:

Survivor - Your task is simple: Scavenge supplies, Try To Rebuild Society, and most importantly: SURVIVE

Military - If you are military, you'll either be tasked with watching the Evac House along with going into Candrilla sometimes to look for survivors or be one of the units trapped within the city

Exotics* - You guys are explorers so you can go where ever you want to scavenge and look for gear, along with aiding survivors by either helping them with what they are doing or taking them (with permission)
to outside the city to your safe house in the woods (Any survivors that are there are allowed back into the city to scavenge and look for survivors)
*Exceptions include: Wolves, Lizards, and Bears
*You can also be a part of The Nature Warriors gang

Specialized Skills:
Engineer - You are skilled in inventing, constructing, upgrading, reinforcing, modifying, hacking, or otherwise tinkering with equipment and facilities. You aren't the kind of person to be satisfied with a weapon you pick up unless it's been modded to have a chainsaw for a bayonet at least.

Scout - You are skilled at making your way through enemy lines as fast as possible and as silently as possible. You record everything you see, and take notes of everything you hear. When someone wants to know something about a dangerous place, you're the one to go there and get what you need.

Scavenger - When the world ends, you can't afford to be picky about where things come from. You enjoy first dibs on many different weapons and tools and medicine and food items. You enjoy this first pick because you're the one risking your neck to bring it all back to the other survivors.

Warrior - You shoot things. You blow things up. You run them over with your vehicle. You burn them with fire. Basically, your job is to get out in the thick of the undead and ask them politely with a big gun to leave. Plain and simple.

Doctor - Your job is to keep everyone alive in a world filled with death. It's a difficult job, but if anyone is to have any hope, it's a job that needs to be done. The undead aren't the only threat, after all. Sickness, disease, injury in dangerous environments, all of these things need to be fought off too, and your weapon is your medical kit.

Hunter/Gatherer - Much like the Scavenger, your job is to ensure the population is well fed and supplied. The difference is, you aren't interested in decade-old twinkies. You're after fresh fruit and herbs pulled straight out of the ground. You're after real meat to help your friends and family stay strong. And so, you hunt and you gather in the wilderness, where those things can be found.

More! - The above aren't the only things you can do, and you don't have to pick just one! Be creative! Your character is your own, and their story is yours. Mix and match your character's skills, or come up with one on your own!

THE MOST Very Important Rule:
NO KILLING OTHER SURVIVORS: You all have to work together to survive. You are allowed to get into fist fights with each other and the worst you are allowed to inflict is making one unconscious, but no killing others

FAQ:

1. Say, is this canon to the main HousepetZ Storyline?
Yes it is! Though consider this like a spin-off

2. Can pets or exotics get infected?
No, the way the virus works is that it only affects humans so pets are safe*
*If a pet/exotic does get infected, it'll be like a flu to them with the added zombie bite on them but can be cured

3. Can our character be related or have any sort of contact with the cast of HousepetZ?
No. As for contacts, it all depends on your intention of contact (ask me first) and, no, you can not be a Celestial's Avatar.

4. What types of animals/pets are allowed?
Standard ones you'd find in the HPU are allowed (If you are wanting to play an exotic* animal, your storyline will be much different)
*Exceptions include: Wolves, Lizards, and Bears as Kantra allows them to have their owns houses in the city

5. How violent is this RP, like do bodies remain or melt ala RE4?
You can say how a zombie dies, the shape of the bodies you encounter, or what wound you got but no explicit details for either (Meaning don't go past a PG-13 rating)
Bodies remain where they are once dead. You are allowed to move bodies if you have to.

5a. Do Zombies regenerate?
No. Once you kill a zombie, they stay dead
*If it will make your character feel better, you can always just burn the body

5b. Can we eat the zombies corpses or, for that matter, any of the corpses we find?
...No...and ew....

6. Are we using typical RP Stats?
Stats for HousepetZ: Survivors United will be under a 42 point system though there are special bonuses depending on your skill and/or if you are part of a faction

7. Is clothing allowed? Can our character have special additions, like a robotic arm or such?
All up to you how you want your character to look and, yes you can to the later, but no additions that can result in god-modding or the OPing your character
The factions do have uniforms, but they are optional

8. Where can we spawn?
Within Kantra or the Farmlands (If Survivor)
Woods surrounding Kantra (If Exotic)
Main Evac Safe House (If Military)
Stranded Unit somewhere within the city (If Military)
Wasteland (If a member of the MetalKnights or WildOneZ)

9. Why type of character can we be?
Your character should fall within one of three styles and, if you want at the outset, can be part of any faction of your chosen:
Survivor
Military
Exotic

10. Going back to spawning, what is the layout of Kantra?
It is your typical city with stores, apartments, houses, buisnesses, malls, a city square, and a few docks.
Inside of the city are disjointed fortified towns, or forts. These forts are free of the undead, and though they are often attacked, they are considered safe.
There is also a 'Dead Zone', where the virus hit the hardest and only those wearing gas masks can enter
There are also vast woodland areas and farmlands (The farmlands are the only non-military zones that are free of undead)

11. What rules for this Zombie Thing is the RP following?
TVs and Internet still work (So you can have things to watch and play)
Zombies are standard George A Romero's zombies
Same time, there are only Zombies, no mutant creatures or such

12. Can we make our own guns and vehicles/modify existing guns and vehicles we find in the RP?
YEP! You can customize any weapon or vehicle you find to your hearts content, assuming you have some engineering skill.
Nearly anything goes here!* Want a tank? Up-armor a bulldozer and stick mounted guns on it. Want something crazier? Be creative!**
*Within reason of course, meaning no Nukes or weapons akin to Nukes.
**Of course, if you join or are part of either the MetalKnights or WildOneZ, then you get more bonuses, tools, options, and stuff to play with :)

MetalKnights - Mad Max and Heavy Metal Inspired Gang who loves their vehicles and doing crazy stuff to said vehicles and their weaponry
Leader: Hawkens

Valhalla's Chosen - Peaceful Gang who looks out for everyone and will either offer shelter or will help supply you. Either way, they will treat you like you're family.
(Though they do understand that not all factions/survivors can be trusted, but they are always willing to take a chance, and that all zombies should be killed on sight)
Leader: Father Hope

WildOneZ - Known for their love of big guns and even bigger explosions
Leader: Uncle Nitro aka Nicholas Trobain

Nightshade - A group of highly trained stealth operatives including ex-special forces soldiers, scouts, assassins, and spies.
These guys specialize in scouting and discrete operations.
If you want a group to get behind the enemy lines or carry out operations in the zombie infested wilderness, they are the people you call.
If you want to know more about an unexplored area, they are the people to explore it.

Nature's Warriors- Live outside the city and are known for their love of the hunt
Leader: Artemis

???* - A mysterious gang who no one has seen in person, but they all know of their existence as they are known to leave a calling card where ever they were last seen, with said card containing their symbol...

Appearance: wrapped in the typical three-tone striped brownish orange coat of her species, Mila stands out in a crowd. She's large with an athletic build, visibly muscular, and has little to no visible fat due to having maintained a steady exercise routine during her years in captivity. Having very little to do when she lived at the zoo other than exercise and groom has also left her with a quite well kept coat and some vain habits she hasn't shaken yet. she tends not to wear clothes, and lately she's taken to using a 10' section of a downed lamppost that she sharpened one end of as a spear, so you'll often see it strapped to her back.

Background: Originally born wild, Mila ran afoul of local law enforcement during her youth, and was only saved from being put down by her species rarity. After being sent from place to place for a few months she eventually wound up a resident of a local zoo and lived there for just under a decade until the end of the world occurred. Thankfully, she's maintained her strength and hunting skills from her wilder younger days.

Other Notes: She's actually decently smart, and sociable when she wants to be, but doesn't come off as such due to her lack of education, appallingly bad English (2nd language, never properly taught), and overall intimidating appearance and demeanor. Hence her low scores.

Unless you're overruling it, 2 is the lowest possible stat.

i don't get the logic behind that. in D&D the 'minimum 3' bit is because there is no 0 on a D6, and originally all stats were rolled, they implemented the point system later. it's a holdover, that's the only reason it's there.
in fallout games, the source of the SPECIAL stat system, its entirely possible to have a 1 or a 0 in a stat. It makes you a cripple or an unintelligible moron in the mechanically stricter entries in the series, but it is an option. and 'complete communication failure' is precisely what i'm aiming for here; she barely speaks any English, what she does know is a mangled mess, and being a massive intimidating predator works against most attempts to socialize.
besides, none of the RP's use the stats as a strict be-all-end-all, but more as a general guideline.

Appearance: Your standard Leonberger fur colors. Mostly wears a tank-shirt with a pair of blue jeans and combat boots, though due to the apocalypse, he now has a bandoleer, backpack, and some holsters on him as well, along with his owner's rifle (A lever action rifle).

Background: Before he was fighting for survival, Roarke worked at his owners gun shop selling and cleaning weapons while doing various odd-jobs mostly lawn-care and babysitting.

Faction: Independant
Special Trait: Weapon's Expert (Bonus: +4 Intelligence) - Roarke is able to handle most weapons with ease and keep them in working order.

It's less about if a character can exist with the stat, and more about precaution against a character that self-destructs because of the low stat. I personally don't mind, because obvious character flaws are fun if they're played right. I just don't trust myself to portray them.


Also worth noting(and as far as I'm aware), age was standardized more for convenience of understanding in role play than for a thing of accuracy. Instead of having to learn the aging of every breed and species, it's much easier for everyone to understand 1 year equals 3.5 years' worth of aging in animals, or twice as much in small animals such as mice. A simple concession to convenience, but I can get into detail with it if you want.

alright I've adjusted the miscalculation on her age, but i'm still not changing the stats unless the gm says i have to.
Most important thing I've learned from D&D?
No matter how tempting it may be, as a DM I can't both present a problem and solve it.
Every time a DMPC or NPC fixes something a payer couldn't i'm diminishing and undermining that player's contribution.

I checked the stats out again and, again, everything is fine and I get why you have a 10 for strength (Tigers are usually strong). As long as you don't god-mod/OP them, the stats are fine.

I'm not against the stats, I'm just stating why I think the forums have that general rule. They even said individual roleplays are free to get rid of that rule if they want. Just didn't see anything about that one being tossed aside, so I thought I'd check.


The age thing is also more prevalent in SeanWolf's. Looking up life expectancy for the leonberger, they're only expected to live to eight years old in real life, so clearly not going by that.

30 in human years is 105 in pet years. That's old. Probably a typo, all things considered. 8 1/2 in human years is the closest I can get to 30 in pet years without getting into highly specific decimals.


I'm interested in joining, by the way. I have like, five different character ideas, just want to narrow it to one or two, but I can't do that until I have it all written down and can look at them.

Even if I wanted to(which I'm tempted), I couldn't without having them all be in different situations. The I.E.D. hound and ferret radio tech would be Army; GSD scout/marksman is Navy; and the Search-and-Rescue dog would likely be from the police. It wouldn't all be one squad, it would be at least three.

You may have tried this too early. It was half a year after I started RPing here before I started Beacon of Hope, and by then I had teased the idea by having a character from the BoH universe, Eira, appear in RGV and talk a bit about the universe she came from.

Also, there was the advantage being that superheroes were and still are really big in modern culture. While zombies aren't unpopular, they aren't really hugely popular either.

Both look good though I do have a question: When you say 'modify weapons', what do you mean by this? Would it be simple stuff like scopes and the like or are aiming for a more fantastical approach? Otherwise, both sheets checks out, though I would suggest using a different speech color for Lincoln (just to make it easier on the eyes).

Hmm...Ok, I'll let the modifications slide as it isn't TOO fantastical so I'll allow it (Just don't go OVER the top like modifying a machine gun to be a mini howitzer hehe). Just be sure that the mods are within the realms of possibility still, k? Otherwise, both of your characters are A-OK!

As for 'Personality'...OK, we can do that!

Most important thing I've learned from D&D?
No matter how tempting it may be, as a DM I can't both present a problem and solve it.
Every time a DMPC or NPC fixes something a payer couldn't i'm diminishing and undermining that player's contribution.

I'm thinking of a rabbit (calls himself a jackalope, has antlers on his head somehow, probably a hat?) Who's special ability is wild wasteland.

'Wild Wasteland', eh? This character sheet I GOTTA see (as that was one perk I loved in Fallout New Vegas) :)

Wild Wasteland, when selected in the game, makes you see things that aren't supposed to be there, in a nutshell.

Wild wasteland is a perk from fallout new Vegas. It's an excuse to have the same pop culture referencing energy from the first two games in the SLIGHTLY more serious world of the 3d games.

Stuff like finding a fridge with a skeleton in it and steeling Indy's hat. Or finding Timmy down a well.

It does little other than make your charecter have the ability to stumble into wild and wacky situations. Though it does let you find a few extra unique weapons, few of them are good as well as being reusable.
