Oh My Dog! No. Just no. I did not see that coming. Shoot, how close are they to town? Not much of a camping trip if they’re that close to home. Poor Zach. If Gale shows up now. I’ll just die.

Wait a minute. How do they not know him? They’ve lived in the same neighborhood for years. Rockstar kiddnapped him that one time. They were in the Christmas play together. They’re on the cover of the second book together.

The boys plot their strike,
going all homicidal
as sweet Custom Ink
worships before her Idol.
The Wolves watch the scene
as their hunter closes in.
not knowing their danger;
just knowing how to begin
Attack the Zach and face the Jess
make enemies before and aft
surrounded by enemies
then it’ll be Zach that laughed...

Yes OF COURSE that's the same rabbit that they know from the neighborhood back home, that's clearly the first thing they should consider

Zach has been several colors over the years, but in his latest appearance he was actually gray.

Book covers don’t count.

Oh and thanks a lot. You didn’t throw a curveball. You threw a grenade. Now there are so many possible scenarios of where this plot is going now it’s impossible to figure it out. I can’t decide where it’s going next or how this affects the story long term or even if this is an important plot point at all.

Now we have to wait 48 hours to figure it out.

I mean, did the different skulls at the entrance to Gale's den not prove how the world still works?

Anyway, Zach might be a player in this, or he might not. Characters have had minor or gag roles in big arcs before. Zach had the K9 arc, remember?

This is a huge throwback! Rockstar Hawk and DeeVee lookin like they're gonna eat Zach. How long ago was book 2?

Zach had better hope that his devoted followers are devoted enough to protect him from hungry wolves.

That’s the problem. Who cares if someone gets eaten? That’s not important right now. What is important is whether the cult is going to play a role in this story and if they do then that changes literally everything. If they don’t then I’m freaking out for nothing and can go back to reading my book. But we don’t know. Safe money is that this is just a gag but until we conformation then everything is up in the air.

“Don’t be afraid to zig where others have zagged. Take a risk that your reader will appreciate a zany plot twist more than something they have read before.” I read that on Facebook earlier as part of a list of writing tips.

the name of this comic made me think of something very NSFW lol

also, if they do get a rabbit, i think it'll be the first time we see a predator eat prey (not chewing on bones) since grape got that rude mouse.

"Folks 'round here is always tryin' to dee'vour each other - in a friendly way a'course, 'cause we's all friends!" Porky Porcupine.

"Be vewy, vewy quiet. I'm hunting wabbits! Heheheheheheh...." E. Fudd.

Actually, the food chain has episodically intruded into the strip, directly or indirectly, on a number of occasions. When Peanut and Grape go yo the farm, Peanut informs all the horses "You all look delicious". The horses take his rather gruesome observation as a compliment. Grape says something equally gustatory to a cow. One of the ferrets informs Fido that he wants to eat Spo, and Squeak risks her life to get a foot massage from one of the Bigglesworth cats. Skip the Hawk refers to hunting mice.

Intriguingly enough, many of the early wolf strips involve references to hunting, killing, preparing, and eating deer. However, Deer are clearly depicted as sentient, verbal ferals.

Birds, along with mice, seem to be most vulnerable when someone's threatened with being gobbled. In an early, one-off strip, Grape and Maxwell debate which of them will claim a grounded bird, the bird also participating in the conversation. In fact, the bird gets the last line, indicating that he's walking away. ,did he escape? We don't know. Natalie Wolf tells Bino she once saw Bruno Bear chomps a bird from a remarkably tall tree limb.

In hosting her friends in her treehouse, Jessica tells them that "No Predation" ("...or face my wrath!") is one of her inviolable house rules. Interestingly enough though, in the background of one strip where Karishad and a ferret are taking, the young racoon Tum appears to be "getting very physical" with Trinket the magpie. Feathers are flying and Trinket is flapping, alarmed, while Tum seems to be grabbing her.

....and that is Trinket's last appearance. I'm eager to be corrected but the worse might be assumed.

Anyhow, this vegetarian'll just wait for Friday. Regards.

What lesson would that be? Go hungry; get a new digestive system that can digest non-meat; eat a young one off to the side just don't harm her boyfriend. I'm changing my prediction to Gale snatches the cubs before they can really sink their teeth into anyonething because that would resolve this without breaking the rating, or the food chain.

On a different note, I'm surprised no one yet has commented on how cute Rockstar Hawk looks in the first panel.

It's gotta make hunting difficult when you personally know half the prey animals in the immediate area.

Even if Gale doesn't grab them first, I think that when they consciously recognize exactly who they're stalking they won't want to go through with it.

Ink would be big enough wouldn't she? Everyone protests Zach getting eaten, no one seemed concerned for Ink. Yeah, she has a kid, but this is the wild and they're trying to reconnect with their wildside. After all, if you sit and think about it enough you can talk yourself out of eating any of the other characters. I'm sure the character of choice would have a few words on that subject themselves.

Seriously? Zach is like the butt joke of everyone's menu these days. Heck, i'm surprised Grape hasn't tried to eat him yet. I bet even Peanut would joke about it if he wasn't so nice. x3

I'm amused i didn't see Zach coming. Also ~ cubs don't eat other cubs. That's just~ everyone was a cub at one point ~ yeah, but not in THIS comic!

That is where this story is most likely going. Even if the cubs don't recognize (or care about) Zach. He will at least call them out on it. Then the rest of the cult will most likely stand up for him which will deter the cubs. Whether or not Gale is going to play a role in this is still unknown. I can see her showing up after the cubs leave as part of a karmic whammy about the food chain or leave her out of this joke.
Argent wrote:If they're that close to Babylon Gardens, what are the odds we get a couple of precocious fox cubs involved?
And now you know why I was freaking out. But I'm calm now and can think about this rationally. But worse than Pete and Dragon is Shifty-Eyed Mr. Steward. DUN DUN DUN! He's had an entire year to plot his vengeance and formulate a master plan for conquest and/or steal the Milton's fortune. If he is somewhere lurking in the background than he can use this to his advantage and set the stage for whatever grand scheme he is working towards. Like I said even if this will not affect the chapter it could have serious repercussions for the rest of the arc. That's good storytelling.

I don't know why people are so upset other than the fact that the cubs are targeting Zach. Which is a no-no. We do not eat pets. Miles forgot to mention that or the cubs have thick skulls. Anyway this is not uncommon for cartoon series.
Bojack had an entire episode explaining where meat comes from and they're even more anthropomorphic than the Housepets.
The Lion Guard will go around saving herds of animals but turn around and hunt them down as part of the circle of life.
The Bravelands (book not cartoon) has the animals coming together and even discussing the do's and don'ts of predatory actions. How the lions were killing without reason (because Titan's crazy) and I think once the leopards were doing something wrong and got called out on it. Anyway it was a mess.
Then there is the live action Jungle Book movie. All the animals got together during the peace time and predators and prey got along sort of. They recognized their place on the food chain.
We can't all be like Zootopia where predator and prey get along and sing kum-ba-ya.
