I don't think they're 'back' per se. I think Rick just wanted to end the 'where are they' talk. These two may now vanish for years. Or have an arc on their cubhood adventures at some point.

I am very surprised that they showed up so soon or in this form at all even. I actually expected them to show up as immortals again and be like "Subjective time remember? We may also be currently living among you but we came back to the current time after to ensure those lives would be very VERY accommodating". Or that we would find out that they were actually some of the current characters. I mentioned that theory a while back.

I cant say this is an unwelcome surprise. The story arcs have gotten a bit more focused as time has gone on but still leave us surprised every now and then.

Reading that, Kitsune left it ambiguous. He IMPLIED they'd not remember being immortal but what he actually SAID indicates a possibility he meant they won't remember being MORTAL after their punishment is done or that the specific part of sixty years is blocked.

I don't know... That seems like a really reaching interpretation of what Kitsune said. But I suppose we'll see!

Wait a minute. If the theories are correct and these two foxes are Pete and Dragon, does this mean that Karishad might also be a former deity being punished for crimes against Humanity/Heaven?

Something I'm wondering that was left ambiguous is the question of parents. Did Cerberus find an (unsuspecting) pregnant mortal to give birth to the reincarnated demigods or were they dropped off as babies in the woods? If it's the former then how would their "parents" react to their newborn's claiming to be demigods (or at least having adult capabilities if they kept their past a secret) and would they have any mortal siblings? If it's the latter then how would they avoid being snatched away by an eagle?

Kitsune's words weren't about their memories of demigods at all, he doesn't bring it up at all in that panel. He's talking about specifically how long they have to live. That's to close a loophole of them knowing the exact length of their sentence and so basically ignore their own mortality.

Draig looks more masculine than Craig. Then again, Craig could just be scrawny.

At first I had no idea what was going on, then I noticed their eye colors omg you guyyyyyys! I love this comic so much.

It's always a little hard to tell in the HP style, but Dragon looks male? Does that count as first trans character, or does being reborn stretch the definition?

Also, it looks like they've been planning something to do with the Temple, before it was destroyed. Trying to get their celestial bodies back?

I find it interesting ya'll are fixated on the eyes as your reason why these two are Dragon and Pete and not the information from the dialogue like: they know about the "Sources of Unspeakable Power", one has a temple in Egypt, the right one has an abrasive personality, mortal is an unusual condition for them and they would otherwise have superpowers. Even if you don't know Welsh, Draig is clearly derived from Dragon. As for conjecture, I think they spent the time from their reincarnation trekking to Babylon Gardens (unfortunately for them) just in time for Pete's temple to be destroyed. They are trying to use the leftover mana to either reverse their punishment, or if that's not possible, make their lives much better. They can use the mana without any word-shatering consequences because they have practice (any time they used it for its intended purpose in the game). I wonder how strictly the 60 year minimum would be enforced. If they step in front of a train with they be "lucky" enough for it to just so happen derail and miss them?

no they'd be lucky enough it was either going slow and someone finds them and nurses them back to health, or someone pushes them out of the way, or they never get near a train track at a time a train is about to go over it cause "fate" held them up

Nah. Taking advantage of past ambiguity, maybe. Seems more like a lot of people either forgot what was actually said in that strip (it's been a long time, so that's understandable), or people just misinterpreted what Kitsune said as being more straightforward than it actually was.

The way the old strip is written, grammatical clues point us toward this conclusion--that he was referring to them not remembering the mortal lives once they end--but most people probably just assumed he meant they wouldn't remember their immortal lives because it's a more standard way of doing things like reincarnating in popular fiction.

(In other words, they won't remember how long their life span is set to.) Just because the meaning doesn't jump out immediately, doesn't mean that wasn't the original intent. No retcon necessary.
Now, why Rick hasn't cleared this up at any point prior to now while we've all been misconstruing the meaning is anyone's guess.

Also, I guess this debunks the whole 'Skunk Guy is a Fused version of them' theory? I mean, GK was wearing a Yin-Yang Symbol when he sent them...

Lastly, they remember who they are. I guess that's good too? But why wouldn't they be allowed to remember their time as Mortal? That's what throws me off here...

Another thought: Mr. Steward/Badger to a duck when Karishad showed up, perhaps concerned that he might be recognized from their former interactions in Keene's offices. Now that may have just been paranoia on his part, but ... might he have sensed that the fox could have blown his cover? If so, might Karishad also recognize Pete and Dragon in their new guises and expose them to their "many rabid fans" in BGardens?

Read what Rick said. It's the fact they're mortal FOR SIXTY YEARS that they don't remember.

Incidentally, Draig in Welsh is pronounced more like Dryguh. (In South Wales anyhow)

Hahaha yessss. I have waited so long for these two to return. I am so excited to see what hijinks they get up too.

Also, not going to lie, I honestly expected them to be humans. I don't particularly know why, it's Housepets!, for cods sake.

I'm honestly curious why so many people think Dragon's foxy reincarnation is not still a female. There aren't really many distinguishing features between male and female in the HP! style, and especially so when the characters are as young as Dragon and Pete's new bodies are in the most recent strip. In general, the designs of characters are fairly androgynous, and I think that's at least somewhat intentional.

I mean, it's certainly not impossible, but I can't think of any particular reason to speculate purely based on the design. Either way, I'm sure we'll find out for sure soon enough.
