Info stuff
So, with updates come new features. What's going to be used, what isn't, how are things going to change? Naturally, the graphics will go back to a more... Housepets theme. And the forum link will return. But, what's new? Will there be people tagged as 'members'? Will the menubar change, with dropdowns? At the moment, there are two Contact buttons... Anyway. Mood icons, author and user pages, numbered pagination, graphic alt text, .swf support, all this other cool stuff... What's being included, what's not? :B
Heck, because I'm curious, what do you guys want to be included? :V
As I said. I'm curious. So sue me.

Have something cool that I want to figure out how to actually use.
Anyway, page looks mostly okay.

The only new thing that came directly to my attention are the shiny back and forward arrows (which i have no problem with

)

The forward/back buttons above the comic are pretty neat I guess.

Now, don't make Rick work any harder on this, Ebly. It's gotta be a nightmare pleasing fans like you as it is.

Yeah the page loads slow enough as it is. It doesn't help that there are TWO css style sheets for some reason; I basically have to overwrite the base 2.8 one.

WP Super Cache is enabled. The loading speed and server load should be greatly reduced after this, as it will cache commonly generated pages and will not have to rebuild pages from multiple php and css files for most of the archives.

Graphic navigation buttons have been stylized

The buttons are nice and cute for sure, but I think the arrows in the bones are throwing it off. In my honest opinion, I think it would look better if both the fish and bone were consistent with having no arrows in them.
Edit: Its only a thought. I don't mind the arrows that much. The whole web page looks great

rickgriffin wrote:It doesn't help that there are TWO css style sheets for some reason
I use CMS Drupal for most of my websites and it has usually more than 10 separate CSS files depending on the number of modules

Of course, there's an option to put them into a single file when generating page, reducing number of HTTP requests, but makes live editing using Developer Toolbar in Firefox much harder
Anyway, I think that spacing between the lines is a little large, for example on the Cast page, which would be very nice to see updated by the way

I have signed up for Oh No Robot, so now you can waste your time transcribing comics for me!

Well, it seems that the TWC vote button is everywhere except the home page.
While you're at it, you may as well add back the donation button. You *can* do that again, right?
Oh, and the new nav buttons are nice. But maybe you can make them darken when you hover over them like every other button would? When you get a spare chance.
Site's lookin' good. Can't wait to see what else pops up.
And crap is that comic transcriber going to waste my time.

I could make them ROTATE HORIZONTALLY!
. . . no that would be too much work

TWC vote button was added by request

With appropriate scripting, you could make it draggable. You could make if fade out and then fade in again and then get up and make you a cup of coffee. I'm sure there's a Javascript code out there that could liberate Tibet. dalailama.js, or something.
Out of curiosity, that little blue gap between the area with he buttons and the rest of the dog house - is that because of CSS or does the image not go low enough?
Also do you think you're able to change the colour of the button when you have a page selected? Like, the grey thing looks a little out-of-place.
I'm not actually hard to please I swear, I promise I'm just trying to help :'D

Actually I can make it go partially transparent on hover using CSS, I'd just have to look up the code and all.
And I can change that too, I'll just have to find the menubar CSS stuff and kill it.

Times like this I really wish I was savvier with the mechanics of web designing. Otherwise I'm just commenting on stupid things like whether or not icons have arrows in them or not...
*Sits in corner* I'll just try to follow from here.

In all honesty, comicpress just confuses me. I know html and css fairly well, and I understand the processes of php (all actually getting to work is still beyond me). But when I try to set up wordpress and comicpress, it goes right over my head.

I will waste my life transcribing the comic, Rick, but you need to set up the strips for it.

Code: Select all
a:hover img {
filter:alpha(opacity=50);
-moz-opacity:0.5;
-khtml-opacity: 0.5;
opacity: 0.5;
}
Doop da doo... I enjoy google very much.
Problem: This apparently doesn't work on IE6, which, like, a quarter of the internet still uses for some reason.
But it works with everything else
And apparently it doesn't actually make any -problems- for IE6 users, so that should be fine.
It only works with images that are used as links, but then, the buttons you have are used as links so.
...Wait. I just realised I never actually found out if you -wanted- to or not of if you were just saying.

Actually I am gonna do that, but later! I'm getting other things ready.
Also, the 'transcribe comic' button should be underneath the nav buttons? Can everyone see those?

I see it! :B Now we won't see Sinder for about a week as he goes through and faithfully transcribes every single strip.
The project wonderful ads try to go vertically instead of horizontally.

I know, I'm not sure why that's happening
EDIT: Okay, it's working now. I just had to flush out Plugin Wonderful to get the adboxes to go back.

Coolio, everything seems to be pretty much fitting together like it was before, now. With added ohnorobot and new buttons.
Did you change the roof graphic? For some reason it seems different.

Why yes. I figured that since I needed to expand it be 20 more pixels I might as well do it again. I made it a bit taller, so it'll poke more into double comics.

The RSS feed and the "back" button on the upper toolbar both turn brick red when you mouse over them.
Other than that, everything else is working splendiferously.

So has anyone been able to see the 'transcribe this comic' button?
Re: Comicpress 2.8

by Buckdida
Yes, I can see it. Take a moment to pop up though.
EDIT: It doesn't seem to appear on the home page (clicking the link up on the top bar)
EDIT2: It DOES appear when you click the "home" fish though.
EDIT3: Okay, home fish takes you to latest comic, not home page. That's why.
So it appears everywhere but the main home page. There's your answer!

Okay about transparency
The css sheet for the navigation buttons has this:
Code: Select all
.navi {
width: 66px;
padding: 66px 0 0 0;
/* margin: 0 5px; */
display: block;
float: left;
overflow: hidden;
font-size: 11px;
text-align: center;
color: #555;
}
.navi:hover {
background-position: -66px 0;
}
That was for the 'standard' button set, where it would shift the image over to create the hover image instead of replacing it. Notepad++ isn't telling me that the filter effect is valid for the .navi:hover though, is it?

Yay, transparency.
So apparently it is. :B

Just one small question: Why does the right-arrow fish say "Home"? It'll confuse some (Like it did with Buck) that it'll take you to the homepage, not the last comic, instead. So you should edit it to say "Last" or something like that.
Just sayin'.

Because the last comic has the comments and the home has the news.

Okay, I will change that then! I thought it took you to the homepage but apparently I was wrong (because the site is set up so you can have the comic not on the main page. I don't know why one would not want the comic on the main page.)

Sooo...that TWC button is being put to good use.
About 24 hours ago, Housepets was ranked over rank 1000.
Now, Housepets is rank 89. This is without any voting incentive.
Keep voting. Let's see how far Housepets can go up the list!

So it pleases me that TWC shows that Housepets beats Looking For Group.
If rick can beat LFG in a short timespan, then it shouldn't be long til he's at the very top 10 in my honest opinion.
HEre's hoping it does.
