Housepets Osu! Thread

Post by Souji »

I've been approached with this question a lot, so I figured I would make a thread about it. What is that thing in your signature?

Ever been bored at your computer? Tired of not being able to use your tablet to draw those awesome pictures you think up? Sitting and drumming your fingers against your keyboard not doing it for you? Pick up that tablet pen, and get your fingers ready to kick some beats with Osu! If any of you have played Elite Beat Agents! for the DS, this game is basically it for the PC. But better.

Gameplay Video

Gameplay Video of one of our recent multiplayer games.

...Enough with the businessman facade.

System Requirements: (Minimum)
1GHz+ Processor
Recommended 512MB+ RAM
Microsoft .NET Framework (2.0+, 32bit)
FFDShow or equivalent video codecs (only for video playback support)

Osu! is a game where rhythm is key; you select a song, and hit the circles that appear on your screen. Sounds easy, and it is! Use either your tablet or mouse to score high and top the charts! Not the type that is good at a game like this? Try out the editing section, and create a chart for your favorite song everyone will love!

Enough of Housepets! plays this now where I think it would be a good idea to organize multiplayer games and possibly form up some game or mapediting tournaments.

If not because of those spinners and my fear of viruses. I would play this again.
I guess I can vouch that this game is much fun, just painful to play for long periods of time.

Oh awesome! A thread for all Osu! players to gather. o wo! And hopefully some new players as well.
Hopefully we can arrange a game in the future or maybe have small training sessions of some sort. |D

Yes, we'll have to copy the James' Training Course and make it Nick's course. Come to think if it, I never tried James'...

Then this game is exactly like EBA but with Multiplayer (Up up 8 people per room) and a Ranking system. Oh and there's also a Taiko no Tatsujin and Catch the Beats mode.

Maybe you should revise the minimum requirements:
System requirements
1GHz+ Processor
Recommended 512MB+ RAM
Microsoft .NET Framework (2.0+, 32bit)
FFDShow or equivalent video codecs (only for video playback support)
MS .Net Framework 2.0+ might not be available if you didn't install it and if your computer has XP or older. Available here.
The FFDShow or equivalent video codecs may not be available if they aren't installed. Probably the best(fastest and up-to-date) available here.

And it's very likely you need a GPU with at least 2D DirectX acceleration. But it's even more likely that everyone already has that.

Possibly useful to know for anyone trying the game out for the first time.

I found my profile. Turns out I last played this game on January the 3rd..... Wow, it has already been a year....... Maybe I should give it another shot sometime, just worried if this game is where my virus problem might have spawned from. You never know......

From my recollection, I have never had a problem with viruses from this game. I don't recall any recent problems from anyone else either, so you should be good.

Actually, if you download it from a proper source.(I.E osu website) The installer should be digitally signed to "Dean Herbert" by Comodo, Which seems to be quite trusted. I would presume that they ensure any files they digitally sign that are actually trusted will be checked for viruses. Making it very unlikely (probably impossible?) for it to have viruses, for they charge a pretty big fee to digitally sign things, and if the digital signature is valid (windows will complain otherwise) you can be absolutely certain that it's legitimate.

So, Basically, It's almost certainly safe if you download it from the osu website. As it is impossible to tamper with it (to add a virus) without the digital signature becoming invalid.

I will just go by the Deviant Art model, that if a site is popular, it is a target for virus attacks and since OSU is extremely download heavy, that it is a likely high source of viruses. I can not assure this, but the time I had the worst of viruses was also the time I was playin OSU. Could be linked or not.

Everything you download is from the site, so it's under the same protection. Unless you're going off and downloading maps/skins from other places, then you don't know if it's safe or not.

I play lightly. It should be noted that it is possible to be played on a non-tablet using a mouse. and shadowhaz says he plays using his track pad. soi's just varying levels of difficulty (track pad = nearly impossible, tablet = relatively easy)

I've even seen people who chose to use mouse to aim, one mouse button to click and CTRL to click the other note. People mix and match it up.. whatever suits you X3

Basically my playing style went from just mouse only to mouse + Keyboard (Using the Z and X button to click) to tablet + Keyboard. o uo

The game's still possible with a mouse anyway. Just takes lots of practice. Even one of the top players uses a mouse.

All this talk makes me feel as though I am in quite the disadvantage. I had no tablet, nor does I know how to use one. I did re-download the game now though, so if anyone will hold a group, I's available......and unskilled. :3

And whatever pointing device that you play with, pick something that you are comfortable with ... I use a regular mouse and I kinda suck with a tablet xP

And we could arrange a time and date for all of us to play or something. Though, it's mostly planned on the IRC and is often unexpected.

Solution is to move the IRC onto this thread. >:3 (Terrible idea.) But if you could spontaneously plan things on here instead of the IRC, it might reach more peoples, who knows.
