Anyone read about this madness? it seams PETA hates furrys too... just on the same train of logic.

""Tanooki may be just a "suit" in Mario games, but by wearing the skin of an animal, Mario is sending the message that it's OK to wear fur," PETA says."

*scrubbed*

When did PETA say they hated furries? Or are you just extrapolating from this?

I think he's extrapolating. They're against Mario wearing a fursuit, therefore, they're probably against real people wearing fursuits, too.

They seem pretty deadset against Nintendo about it though since they have a (bad) interactive game about a Tanooki getting his skin back from Mario.

Also Nintendo responded to PETA this morning I think.

Basically PETA are looking too deep into it.

The thing is if they weren't so darn crazy they could do some actual good with all the money they pull in and waste on stupid stuff like this. That IMO is the saddest part.

Lol just like what did with super meat boy. "Super Tofu Boy!"

And I doubt it's against fursuits. It's probably more against Fur Suits. Spaaaced. As in, actual fur. V:

That would be a disgusting costume.

I hope I get PETA protestors this weekend at MFF. That would be fun!

want fun? try going to school a few minutes away from their national headquarters. I have yet to run into a situation they'd protest, but it's still not fun knowig they're right there.

I feel bad for you... Why is it I never hear about these types of things until someone speaks about it later.

well, PETA is ridiculous beyond comparison.
edit nº 2: I just found the parody game they made insulting Mario for that. They are a bunch of attention (censored).

Coincidentally, a kid at my school had a PETA t-shirt on today. I saw it, and then I started chuckling to myself in the middle of the hallway while people looked at me like I was an idiot.

Oh well. Mario is still one of my favorite video game characters.

Well, to be fair, it's also a forum where many people seem to be anime fans. And no matter what anime you watch, you're bound to come across that phrase on more than one occasion.

But... why? It has a perfectly understandable English alternative. There is no reason to introduce entirely unnecessary Japanese into your speech other than to flaunt how much you enjoy anime. And anime isn't even close to the topic being discussed.

Seriously guys: do not use foreign languages unless it is appropriate for the topic at hand.

We now return to the regularly scheduled thread topic.

Nintendo has yet to comment, though we're pretty sure it will sound like a hand slapping a forehead.
Hehehe...

Anyway. Yes. PETA is stupid. Though this is a new high/low for them =P

They do this for publicity more than anything.
PETA seems to feed on the negative emotions of its members.
-----

It would be a lot more effective (and sane) if they actually took a positive approach to campaigning.

"Hey kids, liking the new Tanooki Suit in Super Mario 3D Land? Its great fun!
But did you know that every day, real life Tanuki's are being hunted and killed for their fur?
Join us in our fight against those responsible and help make the world a safer place for the Tanuki!"

Throw in some pictures of Tanukis being cute and you've got yourself a lot of positive support.

It was a guy, Sleet. :P

Honestly, I really haven't read that much into PETA; I've only heard about the slander they get from everyone, so I can't make an educated decision on whether to laugh at them or support them when they're not being ridiculously stupid (because every organization has their faux pas now and again). Benefit of the doubt until I see solid evidence that they're just a bunch of stupid people.

Also, no guys, that is not in any way an invitation to give me reading information. :P

I'm honestly a little surprised nothing was said about the fact that in 'Combat Stats' there is a 'Bunnies Slaughtered' counter. I'm only up to twelve.

I avoid touching any animals, I even have a shout that makes them docile. But that is not really the point in this thread.

The Tanooki is a myth true, it was made due to the Japanese story that Raccoon Dogs can shape-shift by using a leaf on their head. You can correct me on this if you want, since I did not research it much at all, but I know that some Raccoon was fabled to do so. But in any case, the Raccoon Dog is a Tanooki in figure.

PETA has issued an apology of sorts:
http://kotaku.com/5860212/peta-that-who ... ust-a-joke
Palmer/PETA wrote:"We know how beloved Mario is-we are huge Mario fans ourselves!
We were a little surprised that the game was taken so literally by some,
but we're thrilled that we're able to bring so much attention to raccoon dogs whose suffering is very real."

I was under the impression he was wearing a Tanooki/Tanuki suit (which ever ones not real) because their skin has somethimg to do with gold and silver and the fact that to activate it you need a LEAF which they grow on their heads.
