>Any symbol between 1USD and 500,000USD can be traded.
>In order to keep it realistic, partial shares are not allowed during this game.
>The starting balance is 3000USD. The commission level is 7USD per trade, the credit interest is 3%, and the debt interest rate for leverage is 7%.
>To start, go to http://www.marketwatch.com/game/housepetssmg, set up an account, and join.
>The password for the group is rickgriffin
>Player portfolios are public
-----
OP: So apparently you can set up hypothetical "play money" portfolios in Google Finance. I decided that I just had to play with this. Today I set up a portfolio that went up 0.15% at the closing bell compared to the Dow 30(.DJI) going down 1.51%, the S&P 500(.INX) going down 1.56% and the NASDAQ(.IXIC) going down 1.95%. Another less diversified portfolio I set up went down 0.49%.
I was wondering if we could make a game out of this. Perhaps we could set up different portfolios and compete against each other on a percent gain/loss basis. Maybe there could be a limit on how much stock we can purchase at first (I started out spending less than 1500USD in each).
I think we can make a friendly game out of this while still abiding by the rules of the forum. Anyone else think they might be interested?

Re: Stock Market Game
As long as there's no actual exchange of money going on here, it sounds like it should be fine.

*I've taken the liberty of posting the rules on top to make them easier to find. Keeping another copy down here would be redundant.*

Re: Stock Market Game
Would be a learning experience, I know nothing about the stock market and how it works, I have more knowledge on how magnets work... Fun fun fun!

Re: Stock Market Game
or to make this less confusing we could use http://vse.marketwatch.com/Game/Homepage.aspx instead, that way we could keep track of each other without making confusing reports, ive used it before, its good and simple, connected to the stock market for accurate stock share purchases as well

Good find. I'll set up and account over there and change the rules accordingly.Helmetzid wrote:or to make this less confusing we could use http://vse.marketwatch.com/Game/Homepage.aspx instead, that way we could keep track of each other without making confusing reports, ive used it before, its good and simple, connected to the stock market for accurate stock share purchases as well

Re: Stock Market Game
Anyone else want to play? You can order stocks for your portfolio right now if you want to. It just doesn't get bought until the opening bell on September 5.

Re: Stock Market Game
Well, looks like I'm off to a rough start already. I'm also not sure where Dissension went. I thought he had joined and I really wanted to challenge him.
Just would like everyone to be aware that it's not too late to join. You can still get in on the action.

Getting rid of SPDR GLD and replacing with Chipotle. It's the only thing that's been dragging down my portfolio.

Omg this is perfect. I have an upper advantage. My dad and grandpa are both real stock traders.
