The 'Over 9000' meme that came from a dubbed episode of the anime Dragon Ball Z is actually a mistranslation. In the original manga and Japanese dub, the power level is actually 'over 8000'.

Which is why I prefer watching subs instead of dubs.

I actually appreciate the video reference, I can't wrap my head around the fact @_@

A pack of wolves do not howl in the same key. In fact, their different-keyed howls harmonize and resonate so that their ululation becomes louder hence creating the illusion that there are more of them in the group that there actually are

I saw this talked about in this youtube video...there are other instances of confusing borders where country a is inside country b which is inside country a but this is the only instance of country a being in country b being in country a being in country b again.

The most complex "correct" Chinese character is an old-fashioned word for "verbose." It's just the character for "dragon" repeated four times.

*pops head* Did someone say Chinese characters? :3

So, the word that Sleet mentioned also exists in one of the most comprehensive Japanese dictionary. Here is what it looks like:

Image

In Chinese, it is pronounced zhe, with a rising intonation, or the first tone in Mandarin Chinese.

The craziest Japanese character to have ever been used is this one:

Image

It is however just as mundane as zhe, it's just 'cloud' written three times on top and four 'dragon' s written below it. It was apparently used as a name by some sick person.

For the Chinese, the most complex character to be used today is biang (with the first tone). It is used as the character in the name biang biang mian, or biang biang noodles, a famous dish in China's Shaanxi province. Here is what it looks like:

Image

It is so complicated that it does not exist in major Chinese dictionaries, and can't be typed out in a computer using traditional means.

Any Pixar movie from before 2006 is not technically a Disney movie. Disney bought Pixar in 2006, after movies such as Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, and Bugs Life had already come out. They aren't technically Disney movies.

This might be useless depending whether you believe in ghosts or not.

If you ever find yourself walking alone in the middle of the night in Malaysia and you suddenly noticed a very sweet and fragrant smell lingering around (like lime and jasmine for example), DO NOT comment on the smell in any way. Just walk through the area quietly. The smell means there are supernatural things around you, and the thing about Malaysian ghosts (and South East Asia, in general) is that if you don't bother them, they won't bother you.

If you do accidentally comment on the smell (ie "That's quite sweet-smelling!), then expect to have a nasty fever the next day at the very least. You have been 'spooked' (or keteguran in Malay). Though, no special treatment is needed in general, just treat it like a normal fever and rest well.

In some countries, like Thailand, braces aren't considered nerdy in social life, in fact they are considered cool or fancy, because it means your family could actually afford dental care. Think about how lucky the West has it.

That's similar to how in some countries, being fat is associated with wealth because only the rich can afford that much food, but in America, being fat is associated with poverty because the poor can't afford healthy food.

Hmm, although we are neighbouring countries, Malaysians never really thought of braces as a status symbol. In fact, they were seen more as a necessity in certain cases, even if they are so expensive to have and maintain.

In Sabah, some of the Kadazan/Dusun people have up to four words in their full names, with the structure of [own name/father's name/grandfather's name/family names], though usually there are only 3 words for most [own name/father's or grandfather's name/family name].

Contrary to popular belief, Ostriches do NOT stick their heads into the ground when threatened, and instead turn tail feather and runs. In some cases they even fight the attacker, clawing them with their feet which may or may not act like a 3 to 4 inch Dagger..Rare, but happens.. Also they have been known to chase after, and attack vehicles or other animals.. Yeah Not the same thing ya see in cartoons.

Andrew Jackson was called "Old Hickory" because he carried around a hickory cane and would beat people over the head with it. He was also the first president to have an assassination attempt against him. The assassin's guns failed to fire and Jackson leaped to action and beat the man to a pulp with his hickory cane until a few of Jackson's friends pulled him off of the man.

Believe it or not, on average, Uranus is halfway between Earth and Pluto.
Think about that for a moment. It puts the sheer amount of empty space in space into a little bit of perspective. Also it makes our common maps of the solar system seem a bit wonky. Pluto is TWICE as far from Earth on average than Uranus. Wow.
