Ah the frustration of duff quality matches, having a stove myself I can sympathise.

Spotted!

Exquisite - looks like a forest of New England white birch. Our deer are starting to make appearances, some times in unexpected places - like strutting up the town side walks. Window shopping, maybe?
Thankyou! I hope to add a bit more detail soon. What wild Deer we do have around the locality are far too shy to go anywhere near our local town and village streets, I'm very jealous! Deer at a local park are tamer though, some of the Reds are quite happy to stroll within a few feet of me in the open, the Fallows keep to the nearby trees most of the time unless it is very early, they like the Acorns at the moment, a bumper crop.

Amazee Dayzee wrote: Sun Oct 23, 2022 11:16 pm From that picture alone I can tell Macabre is thinking that Caleb needs to get a grip. That or he is getting bored of watching Caleb get angry at matches. XD
He’s simply waiting to see how long it takes for Caleb to ask him, a literal fire-breather, to light the fuel tablet for him.

Darktober Day 24 - Stalk

“We were just barely able to save this particular mortal from a grisly fate after Harriet was called upon. Freaky thing is the fact that animals don’t carry this shape in that world, so that was a surprise to this guy, but at least it means we don’t have to worry about people believing him about the experience.

I don’t think Harriet really bothers with stealth in her kills, so while she is quiet, she doesn’t actually keep to hiding. She’s usually seen by her victims. Some try to run, some beg, some even try to fight. None of it will work as long as the curse is active. Best we can do is subdue Harriet until the summons wears off.”

Thanks! It’s fun using a couple of the tricks available on Procreate, the art program I’m currently using.

Darktober Day 25 - Prey

“Now, I’m well-known for my appetite. I’m not uncomfortable with the fact that I like big meals. But sometimes a simple snack will do. Don’t worry, I know to make the first bite count.

You can quit staring at me now.”

Nice work D-Rock, Aria not backward in being forward there it would seem!

Worked some more on my latest, think I'll finish it there, tried to give it a bit more depth as I wanted it to look like this particular scout has been spotted whilst roaming through fairly dense foliage. With luck he may yet escape his observer being quick and nimble but this particular Buck will have some explaining to do to his superiors as to how he was so careless to commit such a rookie mistake as being detected whilst out on reconnaissance duty if he makes it back.

Looks great, DDeer! Hopefully he’ll escape to tell the tale.

Darktober Day 27 - Crows

“Mortals like to affix special meanings in mundane things, but it astounds me how well many of these meanings work, and how comforting they can be to them in their times of need.

Crows can sometimes be symbols of death, but other cultures also view them as symbols of adaptability and good fortune, or an approaching era of change.

Doves have long come to symbolize peace in various forms, or even tranquility.

I can sense the good in Halphas, Macabre’s father, and I think even Macabre can tell that there’s hope for him, if he can only realize that he doesn’t have to stay where he is and find something truly worth existing for.”

Darktober Day 28 - Delusions

“Macabre didn’t talk about his biological mother much, but the few times he did painted a rather *interesting* picture of her. Upon meeting her face to face, yeah, he was right on the mark.
She seems convinced that she’s a much better leader than Lucifer, but even I can tell that this is far from the truth. And considering the low bar that is Lucifer…
My own dad apparently knew her from the beginning and confirmed that she was always like this. Seems her sin was Pride at its absolute worst extreme. Basically, you’re either her or incompetent. Not even her own family, from her twin brother, Marduk, to her firstborn, Macabre, are safe from this. It’s unfortunate that she actually sees potential in her sadistic psycho-daughter, Lilith.
There’s no doubt that her endeavors are doomed to fail. Her combat is severely lacking from what I’ve seen, not even having an enhanced form, Marduk was defeated by a group comprising of Vex and several mortals, and Macabre and I have defeated Barghest, who was much stronger than even Marduk.
She’s a threat, yes, but not a great one.”

Definitely play it safe around her.

Darktober Day 29 - Moon

“You know, it’s interesting. Most associate me with something bright, which I get. I have been described as outgoing and sociable. But there’s a beauty to moonlight. I just find it calming and alluring. Macabre felt the same way, actually. Like, even in darkness, there’s some guiding light.

We’re never truly alone.”

Darktober Day 30 - Gathering

“So, as a Celestial, I don’t like to get involved with politics. Something even more temporary than mortals, themselves? Why bother? But I do see how important they can be to them.

Here we see an example of Armon having talks with a rival clan leader, Aurum of the Brushfang. Well, ‘rival’ isn’t the best word, it’s rather one-sided. Aurum has always been jealous of the territory held by the Foxpaw, and has made his disdain quite clear. It’s just that he doesn’t go on the attack because he knows full well that he’ll be defeated. Among foxes, reds like the Foxpaw are the apex predator. Armon is happy enough keeping hostilities from getting high, and sometimes that just needs words.

Apparently the clans have decided on an area that is to be considered neutral. No one can claim it, and no one can hunt in it. The source of their rivers seem like a great place for open negotiations, and this is thankfully something that all of the feral clans respect. Even wholly prey species can feel safe here during talks. I just hope it stays that way.”

(OOC: definitely not happy with Aurum’s design. Will have to workshop it.)

Darktober Day 31 - Fate

"Fate, Destiny, they're such strange concepts, even for many of us Celestials. Everyone has one, but here's the thing; they're more malleable than people seem to realize. What I see those concepts as is more of a trajectory based on current path. Mortals can, at any time, decide to change their situation should they be capable of doing so. Sometimes even something as simple as an attitude change can greatly alter your path. Choices have consequences, sometimes far-reaching. I do hope that mortals can learn to use the gift of free will responsibly. It's a grand ability that was entrusted to them."

And with that, Darktober is complete.

Thanks, everyone! Was quite the journey!

And I think the internet issue is just from the specific provider. After my dad called about it, the representative noted that he wasn’t the only one with this complaint. Been feeling better after that, maybe they finally sent someone to fix up the signal tower.

Anyway, new weapon design!

Mirage: “You seriously made cross-shaped shurikens? Why?
Nikolai: “I looked at mortal religious symbols and decided that it would be beneficial to make some that double as anti-demon weapons. Don’t worry, they’re completely incapable of harming mortals or rogue demons like our friends.”
Mirage: “Um, isn’t that sacrilegious?
Nikolai: “The crucifix was a mortal execution device meant to maximize pain and suffering, to the point that they had to come up with a word specifically for how bad it was.”
Mirage: “…what do you want for a dozen?”

Hey, a tool’s a tool. Easy to look past the questionable use of an important symbol when you learn its origin. Besides, maybe she knows someone who can make use of it.

“Nightmare is always on edge. It is always afraid, and always ready to fight to defend it's host, Phoebe. Which is why it is so surprising that it opened up to Macabre. For some reason, it sees Macabre as someone it can trust. It probably helps that Macabre is the only one Nightmare has met who can actually understand what it is saying.

Nightmare is explaining what it is. A demon born from pure concentrated mortal fear. A demon created entirely from the intensity of Phoebe's torment.”

Thanks! Also drew this up. Nightmare’s strength is dependent on how much fear Phoebe is experiencing. After a certain point, though, Nightmare will fuse with her, becoming much stronger in the process. Nightmare is in control in the loosest sense of the term, as at this point, it is little more than fight-or-flight instinct, and a devastating one at that. It’ll usually go until the source of the threat is gone. This form is debilitating on Phoebe, though, causing great emotional distress. Cyber calls this her “Phobia” form.
