The only gas stations I know are:
Texaco, Esso, Shell and something with a ball shaped logo.
None sell food (ok, no food other than candy bars, crisps etc)

Eskimo in Scandinavia, Germany

All same company with same logo.

I think that's it. and I knew it was still Esso in other places . that "in the US" was supposed to apply to that whole statement.

Yes, let's avoid potentially inflammatory topics. Lots of people are employed by McDonald's fast food restaurants, Walmart stores, or their related businesses. (For example, my company administers extended service contracts sold at WM stores in the U.S. and Canada. I am a 'Walton' program specialist.)

None of them really mean anything, they just sound like something to attract consumers.
Wall Mart doesn't really mean anything either.

When they make a mall here its always a supermall, or in French "supermarche"
A normal marche is like the village supermarket.
And then you have the hypermarche, I... don't want to go into size issues...............

Walmart is derived from the old (hyphenated) Wal-Mart, presumably short for 'Walton's Market.'

Actually they're just one big supermarket that sells as much as possible.
Other than that, it mostly has a news-agent and a bakery attached.

And apparently this one has one of those #@$%!! McD's!!

A hypermarche version of the Carrefour would have a pet store next to the bakery, news agent and music shop.

Our Wal-Mart used to have a McDonald's and I thought that was pretty awesome, but now it's gone. Presumably they don't want people eating before they shop because it makes them less likely to buy food.
