Re: My Little Pony
I come with a challenge for you all
Not really, but I've found that it's more fun to put everything in terms of a challenge.
I've seen two episodes of this show. The first was recommended way back at the beginning of the thread, featuring Applejack and Rainbow Dash in a competition over something I can't remember but that should probably give you enough of an idea. The second I saw on the telly a couple weeks ago while I had the colds, which had Apple Bloom running around town trying to get a cutie mark. Both left me with essentially the same feeling of apathy. I didn't have any large problems with them, but neither one enticed me to watch more.
So, now that there's two yearsworth of the show to choose from, I'm asking which episode you'd recommend to a "first-time" third-time viewer such as myself, obviously one that isn't listed above. I feel like I would like this show, but I have yet to see something that convinces me.

Re: My Little Pony
The episodes I think you are talking about are Season 1 Ep 8: Look Before You Sleep, and Season 1 Ep 12: Call of the Cutie. I wasn't that interested in the show at first but I kept watching to see why all my friends liked it, and it was around episode 9 that got me into the series. I don't know if you'll like it but I recommend Season 1: Episode 9: Bridle Gossip. It's not my favorite but it did get me to actually like the show.

Re: My Little Pony
Actually, the one with AJ and RD competing was Fall Weather Friends. Episode 13 of S1.
As for recommended episodes, my first thought is to suggest the season openers; both are good, but personally I think the S2 opening was more exciting (Discord's just an awesome villain). Aside from those, I'll agree with Zukio that Bridle Gossip (S1 E9) is a great episode. And debatably my favorite episode of the series: Party of One (S1 E25).

Um, Look Before You Sleep is the one where Twilight holds her first sleepover and AJ and Rarity can't get along. The one he's talking about is Running of the Leaves.Zukio wrote:The episodes I think you are talking about are Season 1 Ep 8: Look Before You Sleep, and Season 1 Ep 12: Call of the Cutie. I suggest Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000, from season 2. Awesome song, bunch of good character moments, and doesn't really require knowledge of any other episodes to watch.

see, that's when it's time to just decide to watch the episodes in order. If you actually like it, you'll find that you've watched every episode and love the show.CaptainPea wrote:I feel like I would like this show, but I have yet to see something that convinces me.
I'd just watch all the episodes until you decide if you like it.
Re: My Little Pony
I agree with Brent. You should watch them in order, you get a better appreciation of the show when you do.RandomGeekNamedBrent wrote:see, that's when it's time to just decide to watch the episodes in order. I agree with this estimation. My brother will come to the pony side if only he'd watch more episodes. he just doesn't find the time.

Guys, guys, please, stop the "converting" and "pony side" talk. We're introducing a good show to people who would otherwise be reluctant. We're not initiating people into a cult. That kind of talk turns people off of My Little Pony.

I don't seriously talk like that. It was in jest.
I do however use the phrase "welcome t o the herd" but I don't tell people to "join the herd"

@Sleet: It's creepy but fun!
Seriously now, I know this sounds weird, but I've seen this more as an inside joke than actually trying to force people into enjoying the show. If someone watched it and disliked it then it's fine.

Re: My Little Pony
Please do. To be honest, and I don't mean to direct this at anyone personally, the main reason I haven't put forth much effort to watching Friendship is Magic is that I don't like the image that a lot of the fans present.Sleet wrote:Guys, guys, please, stop the "converting" and "pony side" talk.
I'm not trying to be insulting or anything. Love the show as much as you want; if you want to watch the show 24/7 or run a fansite or carry a pony with you all day, more power to you, whatever puts a spring in your step and a smile on your forehead. But don't reach that point where you tell other people that they should like it, because that just drives people away.

Re: My Little Pony
I don't tell people they should like it usually. I tell them they shouldn't hate it unless they first give it a shot, and if they don't like or dislike it at first, they should give it another shot until they've watched a good deal of the episodes and decide that watching more won't change their mind. for example, Copper watched 17 episodes before deciding that he neither liked nor disliked it. I'm fine with that, I don't need him to watch more. It likely won't change his mind.
If there are people who don't want to give it a chance, I say they should and leave it at that.
If there are people who actively dislike it without giving it a chance, then they need to watch it. but they don't have to like it.

Re: My Little Pony
I think we should all just drop using terms like "convert" and stuff. It might be an inside joke to some of you people, but to others it just comes off as creepy and cultish.
CaptainPea, I sincerely apologize for whatever bad image of the fandom you've gotten.

Re: My Little Pony
as I said, I never use those terms if I'm actually trying to get someone to watch the show, especially not "convert".
I still say "welcome to the herd" because I think "the herd" is a fun quick way to refer to the fandom as a whole, but I only say it once when someone joins the fandom and never refer to or think of us as an actual herd.

Re: My Little Pony
I just saw the latest episode. I don't have The Hub network, so I have to wait for it to be posted on youtube.
Do you think someone might try to make that combined desert at the end?
Reading whole "welcome to the herd" discussion, I usually say "Gooble Gobble! Gooble Gobble! One of us! One of us!"
Just kidding...

That was my understanding of it. This Saturday is an off-day; next Saturday will be the two-part finale.

But seriously, the little guy is barely invited to anything and even in wedding episode he seems to be WORKING there (bringing wedding rings and all.
BTW, talking about wedding rings, what do you think is the tradition of earth ponies and pegasi? Unicorns use wedding rings on the horns, but what about the other ponies? Just hoof bands?

That is a good question. I think hoof bands would be an option, or a regular ring worn on a necklace or as an earring.

Magic.MOV was ok, the only part I found truly funny was the Robot Rainbow Dash, however Spike was ok in it. Apple.MOV is still the best IMO
Re: My Little Pony
I agree; Apple.MOV was definitely the best of the bushel.

Re: My Little Pony
so i just watched My Little Pony Tales
the animation is actually pretty decent
the characters and voices did not irritate me like g1 and g3
it wasn't annoyingly saccharin like g3
it attempted to actually develop characters
it was... GOOD!
