Re: My Little Pony
Well if it helps people get through their problems who are we to judge?
It's obviously going to effect everyone differently if it speaks to someone on that level I'm not going to pretend to understand it. but I'm not going to ridicule it either.
We all have different coping mechanisms and there are some that are alot worse than MLP

Um... no? It's one of many things that people do to "escape from reality" for a bit, and anyone claiming otherwise -is- one of the people you mentioned bringing negative attention to the fandom. But I'd certainly like to hope that that wasn't the person's intention in posting that pic.Foxstar wrote:Every day millions on millions of people do things to take their mind off of stuff, is MLP supposed to be some special snowflake that's held up as the way to solve the world's problems now?
I can't really relate on the specific situation mentioned, but I -can- relate in that at times I view the show in very much the same mentality. It brings me back to a "simpler time", as it were, where life -wasn't- constantly trying to kick me where the sun don't shine. It really, honestly makes me happy whenever a new episode comes out, and it always manages to brighten my mood.
So, in a way, the pic really hits home for me and it makes me glad that I'm not the only one who takes a little something more from this show.

I made a sandwich for a girl in a pony shirt at work today. I wanted to say something about it but I didn't want to get the look from the other people I was working with.

Awww, I was just about to post that! But yeah, it is kind of funny...I just never thought I'd see the day where NAYLOR drew ponies. Or rather, pony heads at least. Gosh, I wonder how the rest of them look in his style...
Spike looks pretty decent.

Re: My Little Pony
I just hope he doesn't attempt to explore ponies more than he already did. This page works well for a one shot, but knowing Jay, he would "go weird" like he did in the past.

Re: My Little Pony
I could think of one way he could spread this out for a couple more pages and still find it acceptable. I'd be okay if say, Abigail went upstairs to watch MLP and found Thomas already watching it. X3

it's fine
we were playing a game in which two blindfolded people are in a circle and one has to catch the other
everytime she grabbed them, she would instantly shriek and jump away

So then, I was just presented with a hypothetical scenario, and I felt like sharing it with the rest of you. If Friendship is Magic HAD to become either a sickeningly sweet candy bowl of a show like G3, or become far darker (about Pixar level), which would you choose?

darker. I don't like things sweet. but luckily, it shouldn't come to this choice.
Re: My Little Pony
Same here. Like I said, it was just something posed to me by a Facebook friend, there really is no chance of this sort of thing happening. Still, it can be fun sometimes to imagine "what if", you know?RandomGeekNamedBrent wrote:darker. I don't like things sweet. but luckily, it shouldn't come to this choice.

Re: My Little Pony
Darker would be better. I don't want the show to be darker, but if the alternative is being overly saccharine, I'd take dark.

Re: My Little Pony
Darker. Not with blood and naughty words, but with darker themes, for example:
1)Twilight and Spike arguing about how Twilight acts so "bossily" (don't know if that's the word, but you guys get what I mean) towards Spike and he yells "YOU'RE NOT MY MOM!" like in that picture we all must have seen (I'm in a different computer so i don't have it here right now)
2)Scootaloo being an orphan like many fan theories say so.
3)Dark Phoenix Saga for Twilight (impossible to happen, but it would be awsome if it did).
4)A Celestia backstory episode. We could see her turmoil about sending Luna to the Moon. Or, even better, how Celestia and Discord were friends until Discord turned evil.

It's already a candy level of sweet. I don't need any darkness, I have a internet full of cheesy fanfics for that.Penwrite wrote:So then, I was just presented with a hypothetical scenario, and I felt like sharing it with the rest of you. Re: My Little Pony
I totally agree with ya there, man. To me, right now the show hits that perfect area between light and dark, with happy characters and bright colors and happy songs aplenty.Foxstar wrote:It's already a candy level of sweet. so from today's episode, we learn that pagasusism and unicornism are indeed recessive traits.

I kinda relate to that since I have a three year old niece (I gave ger a toy pony in her last birthday) and a 10 month nephew.

I don't think we were supposed to buy the explanation. :p
The only thing about the episode I really didn't like was the incessant crying; it's just unfortunate that that happened to be a solid third of the episode. The rest of it was actually quite entertaining. Though I'm definitely gonna have to call shenanigans on Pumpkin Cake being able to fly with her magic, and having extended usage of strong enough levitation spells to simultaneously carry three stuffed animals bigger than she was. I know they said that baby unicorns tend to have random, uncontrolled bursts of magic, but neither of those things were in any way random or uncontrolled.
I did find the shenanigans to be quite entertaining, regardless. And the whole borderline "creepypasta" scene with Pound Cake sneaking around was pretty awesome.
So, yeah. Probably my vote for worst episode yet (overall), but it still had its moments.
