"Try to umm... what does the orb do?" Hyper asked abruptly, quickly changing the conversation. He then got up see what the orb was like. He poked his snout near Lyncus's face and tries to look at the orb floating in her paw.Citrisfur wrote:“Not at all; this orb appearing is the only thing I can partially control.” Lyncus generates her orb again, holding it out at arm’s length out of caution.Foxfan2164 wrote:"Well do you know any other abilities?" Hyper replied, unsure at what to do at this point. He wanted to make Lyncus feel like she is being understood by Hyper (because he's a kaiju as well) but he didn't want to scare her with his abilities. "Could you try to do an ability that wouldn't be harmful or dangerous?" he then proposes, helpfully.

“Oh! The charge thing’s full again,” Lyncus says, pulling the orb closer to her face and instantly forgetting the danger. “Any, um, suggestions for what to do with it?”

"I'm not sure... to be honest, I've only really started figuring this thing out this morning. Although that red light came from this orb, right?" Lyncus starts to gently shake the orb again, making sure not to hit Hyper with it. "Maybe I can pull something else from it? Re: Non-HPU: Crater City
Tigress barely pays attention to the two, shifting in her seat so the doctor's door is in front of her. She speeds though the evaluation as best she can, then puts it under the chair. With that no longer taking her attention she starts listening to her companions again.
Welsh Halfwit wrote:"I'm going to have to tell Tracie my secret," Julian muttered, taking the note and pocketing it before filling in the sheet (and inserting the word 'Banana' into the answer to the 7th question to see if they're paying attention) whilst trying not to think about what Gregg was saying. "A good thing I'm not nervous about needles," he added, "I could probably climb into that one!"
She glances over at the needle's blurred outline, hardly distinguishable from the other equipment. Being of little interest to her itself she voices a concern that it's brought to mind. "If they need something like that to give us medication, how could some idiot with a crossbow kill us? He'd need to be certain it'd pierce all our hide or whatever, and Mist was fully clothed, in layers! Not to mention he walked. right. up. to him. Does that strike anyone else as weird? And Heather immediately knew that there were no others coming, but could she really know that by glancing at his phone...?" She finishes on an almost whispered thought, still staring at the door intensely for any sign of energy. She starts to ponder whether the two next to her are in on it... they're suddenly all about joining the KDF despite having normal jobs and no real reason to. Could that be cover for being actual agents beforehand? She goes dead silent as she continues down the rabbit hole of the great conspiracy this could be. It's no secret that the Rakshasa and Crater City aren't on the best terms, and they may think Mist is trying to infiltrate the force like a sleeper agent. What would be the easiest way to get rid of him? Separate him from the group. Her tail starts twitching rapidly as she tries to keep her calm, heart suddenly pounding as nightmare scenarios spring to mind.Deske wrote:"It's probably not that bad when you're a couple hundred feet tall. "Well, for one, that needles for when we're not disguised and for questions two, poison is a lot more effective than you think it is. I'll have to concede that I'm not sure how deep it has to go to be that effective though." He skimmed the next few questions and answered them quickly, "Also, as long as he didn't text, call, notify anyone that he was compromised, they wouldn't have a reason to come to his aid." Check. "Or maybe it was the opposite and if he didn't check in they'd come running. Either way, we got out of there before they got there."

"Solder doesn't need to go deep to hurt," Julian mentioned, "which is something I sometimes have to remember. Probably the same for Tailor needles." He grinned. "I keep getting told that size isn't everything..."

"I'm a doctor. I should certainly hope I knew something of their physiology!" Lightfoot grins, shutting the door.
"I am a Kaiju, yes. My Kaiju form looks rather like my disguised form hence the headgear. So, if you would please hop on the scales for me and then stand under the tape measure there. Are you feeling fit and healthy today? Any previous injuries or existing medical conditions I should know about?" the doctor asks, waking up his computer.
~~~~~~~~
"Just be aware though that due to our limited numbers we cannot guarantee that you won't be called on to fight at some point. And yeah, some procedures are done more easily in Kaiju form and some people just prefer being in their Kaiju form. And for whatever reason, occasionally people can't shift back so either way we need to be able to work with both Kaiju and disguised forms."
~~~~~~~~
Ronan attempts to give Wildfire a wide-eyed innocent smile, an effect marred somewhat by his pointy, gleaming, white teeth.
"Please, that was clearly just a wave!" he says.
"No, I don't think entertaining the people is wrong. Especially since if you can help them be more comfortable around you then they're more likely to come to you when they need help. I guess Tikbalang customs are just different... I suppose there are two ways of being a guardian - hands-, er, flippers-on and involved, or more distant and impartial, like an overseer or judge. I suppose Tikbalang must go for the latter while you go for the former. I don't think either is really wrong. They're just two sides of the same coin."
~~~~~~~~
"I wouldn't write him off or ban him from your town. We Kaiju have enough enemies without fighting amongst ourselves too. I think you should give him another chance, maybe try talking things out later once you've both cooled off a bit. I really doubt he meant any offence. He's just fiercely protective of this town, as you are of yours. He's also young and guarding a whole town is a massive responsibility for anyone, but especially so for one his age." Jason counsels, between bites of another piece of shortbread.
Mordecai, sipping his tea, shrugged but agreed with Jason. A smile then came to him as he said, "He reminds me a lot of myself when I was a young one. Mind you, we both grew up in different environments but...I still see myself in him at times. Still..." his smile then faded away as he looked out the window, "I still don't agree with his idea that he should feel the need to entertain humans as a Kaiju...but, I guess if he feels he should then...more power to him," As he took another bite of shortbread, a thought quickly came back to his head, "Oh speaking of entertaining, to switch the subjects: The barbecue this weekend. I would like you and Ryan to come a bit early as I would love to show you two around the town. I know you've seen some of it already but I know Ryan hasn't so..what do you say? Same time, PLEASE tell me you'll be bringing that special BBQ Sauce you had when I last visited you as that had some kick to it and I wouldn't mind having it again!"Hlaoroo wrote:"I wouldn't write him off or ban him from your town. Wildfire smiles back at him, though he doesn't show any teeth in the process. "Yeah... You're right. I guess it's partly the difference between growing up in a large city where everyone expects the worst of you versus living in a small town where everyone looks up to you." He lifted his shoulders out of the water in a semblance of a shrug. "I suppose a few younger Kaiju look up to me though... I don't think what we're doing is going to send any wrong messages..." The dragon turned in the water, paddling to face the pier they came from. He looked over at it. It was rather clear he was excited about something, judging by the tension running through his dorsal scales, and the flicking motion of his tail. "I was thinking... Maybe we could give them a really close encounter? As long as we leave room for the boats to come and go, we won't be obstructing anything. There aren't any fishing spots on Pier 29, so we won't catch on any nets, and the water's even deep enough at the end of the pier that we can swim there." he suggested.Hlaoroo wrote:Ronan attempts to give Wildfire a wide-eyed innocent smile, an effect marred somewhat by his pointy, gleaming, white teeth.
"Ah, yeah," Julian replied, before offering to take Alice aside for a moment. He kept his voice down anyway, as he spoke. "I'm, um, sorry you... ah... Yesterday, I would have, like, jumped at the chance to call you?" He tried a smile. "I... I mean you are beautiful? Stunning, in fact? But... this Vixen? I've been, like trying to get to know her for a while, yeah? And, today..? She gave me her number? I... I have to look into it. But... but I..." He got lost for words and just looked confused.
Re: Non-HPU: Crater City
Having found nothing Mist calms considerably, tracing his scars as he approaches. "Two scratch scars across here." He traces diagonally across his torso like an X. "And a mystery one back here." He brings his hand to the back of his neck, digging under the collar to tap the back of his neck where it meets his back where a deep cut's scar is hidden. As he steps onto the scale he continues "Other than the third-degree I gave myself this morning, I'm the picture of health." He pulls his hand up and pulls off the single wrap of gauze, glancing at the mark left. "It's pretty much stable at first right now. Should recover fully within the month." He looks over at the doctor curiously, waiting for the readings.Hlaoroo wrote:"I'm a doctor. I should certainly hope I knew something of their physiology!" Lightfoot grins, shutting the door.
Their responses are reasonable (especially for the needle, as that would easily pierce an entire person) but Gregg's apparent knowledge of both poison and hunter tactics is less relaxing than one would think. With no way to prove who's side the two are on, she decides to just keep better watch of the situations around her. Best she can hope is that the attack was just some sort of hazing ritual for the new fighters.
And then Julian walks aside with one of the employees and starts whispering. Tigress deliberately looks away, listening carefully for motion approaching her as she re-checks her energy reserves, silently pulling forth the boiling heat from the coffee to give her strikes some extra burn should Gregg be given the signal to attack. Still, she attempts to act calm, watching the door.Welsh Halfwit wrote:"Ah, yeah," Julian replied, before offering to take Alice aside for a moment.
Here Goes... Nothing
Lyncus takes Hyper’s advice and puts her paw on the top of the orb, compressing it slightly, again as if the orb was connected to her open paw with a spring. She grabs at the orb, lifting upwards, but her digits only trace the surface of the orb, and she comes up empty-pawed.Foxfan2164 wrote:"You should try to pull something from it but try not to create something dangerous." “Nothing. I can’t get my paw into it, and, well, if something’s happening, I can’t tell,” Lyncus sighs, looking at Hyper again. “Maybe I should go to that place, before I accidentally hurt someone with this thing.”
"Hmm." Lightfoot says, writing down the measurements and then pulling on some gloves.
"Can I see those? This mystery scar, does it give you any pain? You really have no idea how it happened?" he asks, carefully parting the fur to examine it and then gently removing the dressing on the burn.
"Ouch. How did you manage this?" he queries, looking at it closely.
"This... Doesn't look like a third degree though. You must have some sort of accelerated healing ability. Fortunately, so do I. Don't freak out, okay?" the doctor warns as a coolness washes through the cat's hand and the burn vanishes.
~~~~~~~~
"It's okay. I understand." Annie smiles gently, also whispering. "And I'm sorry. It was unprofessional of me and I didn't mean to put you in an awkward position."

"What are you planning?" Ronan asks carefully, a slow smile spreading over his own face.

"Thank you, we'd be honoured to attend! And I'll make sure to bring TWO bottles of the sauce. It's my mother's secret recipe so I'm glad you liked it and she would have been flattered too! I've sometimes thought that I ought to add a barbecue restaurant to my portfolio at some point."

A smile crosses Mordecai face over the news. Out of all the BBQ sauces he tried, Jason's ranks up there as one of the all time bests. "Well if you ever do decide to open one up, I'll be your first customer," he added, still smiling, as he finished his tea off, "Well I think that's all I had to talk about with you...thanks for listening about the whole Wildfire situation. Again, we always had this belief that kaiju shouldn't be..." his attention is then turned to outside the window at the bay as he points, "...shouldn't be entertaining mankind like how he planned. Kaijus are tools and defenders, not Hollywood entertainers....well, us Tikbalang are at the very least, something your father took to heart, I believe, Jason." Then, with a small chuckle and a small, Mordecai stretched out his hand, "Thank you for the tea and shortbread and I look forward to seeing both you and Ryan this weekend!"

"Well..." Wildfire started. "Many of these tourists come from places that don't have many Kaiju, if any at all. Crater City has a particularly high concentration of us. So I bet it would make their day if we were a little more interactive with them. Letting them take pictures with us rather than of us, getting up close, that kind of thing."Hlaoroo wrote:"What are you planning?" Ronan asks carefully, a slow smile spreading over his own face.

Dropping off the hunter and the evidence didn't take as long as Heather had thought. She ran into the head forensics investigator on the way to the interrogation room, so she didn't have to go all the way to their office to unload the evidence. The hunter was apparently too terrified of Heather to obstruct her in any way on the way to the interrogation room. "I do hope so," Julian said, moving back to the main group. "I mean I work about 500 yards from there. Makes it kinda awkward territory for me." He took a seat again.
Re: Non-HPU: Crater City
Mist ponders the question for a moment. "Mom has theories, but I've had it as long as I can remember."Hlaoroo wrote:"Hmm." Lightfoot says, writing down the measurements and then pulling on some gloves.
"Can I see those? This mystery scar, does it give you any pain? You really have no idea how it happened?" he asks, carefully parting the fur to examine it and then gently removing the dressing on the burn.
Mist grins. "Cooking over an open stove tired."Hlaoroo wrote: "Ouch. How did you manage this?" he queries, looking at it closely.
He starts to agree until hearing the last line, then suddenly his fur all stands on end as the healing translates into energy, repairing and refilling his life-pool before the excess energy surrounding him from the previously leaking pool activates. It, too, translates to life energy, sending a weakened version of the same healing effect back towards the doctor and into the air, cleaning both it and him of any pathogens or small pollutants. He brings his other hand to his forehead as he stumbles briefly, the discharge of that much energy causing even his dulled senses to react. Embarrassed, he tries to explain what happened: "Sorry! Oh, are you okay? I carry a lot of unstable energy when I'm hurt, and I haven't burned it off in a good bit... that's also how the burn was so bad, I boosted the heat's effect on myself." He smiles sheepishly, hoping he didn't frighten the doctor with his reactionary power.Hlaoroo wrote: "This... Doesn't look like a third degree though. Tigress whirls to face Heather, who's still by far the most suspicious there. "But it doesn't make sense! He picked the visibly weakest person there, ignoring two Kaiju who had seen him and going as far into enemy lines as he could to do so! Mist was the only one there he could've taken without poison! Why would he pick him over the two frozen at gunpoint or the only one there who is in charge, the visibly strongest, and clearly armed? Instead he snuck in as deep as he could to bring a ranged weapon to point-blank, meaning he was within my pounce range regardless of whether he missed or hit! If the guy's just stupid, I have trouble believing he just somehow managed to get a government-restricted detector unless someone's in on it." She finishes in an almost direct growl, not as a threat but to accent her suspicion. Mist's absence is clearly weighing in on her panic as she tries to plan escape routes or fight plans where she can reach him before he's hurt, but he just said he'd fight her... unless she can prove he's in danger.CyberDragon wrote: She walked down the halls to Doctor Lightfoot's over-sized office and entered the room just in time to hear what Gregg was saying. "Probably because with the amount of poison he had, it wouldn't have mattered who he started with. Lets look at this from a hunters standpoint," Gregg says, setting his pen down on the clipboard. He leaned his elbows on his knees, "If I was a hunter, my agenda would be to show the world that Kaiju are dangerous creatures. I would aim for the kid first. If I can send the mother into a murderous rage almost immediately, that furthers my goals and serves to hinder Heathers if you shift in order to go on the attack. Then I go for you. You're coming right at me, regardless of how you do it, making you an easy target. The other two, myself and Julian, would be next because it could be assumed that we don't know how to fight or are unwilling to since we aren't the ones trying to enlist in the KDF. I'd bank on the fact that Heather would try to save the kid." He leaned back and gave a shrug, "Just my two cents though."

Heather raises a hand and starts counting her various responses on her fingers, rather than try to organize them into a single response.DdeeStar wrote:Tigress whirls to face Heather, who's still by far the most suspicious there. Mist's absence is clearly weighing in on her panic as she tries to plan escape routes or fight plans where she can reach him before he's hurt, but he just said he'd fight her... unless she can prove he's in danger.
"First, him going into enemy lines to pick Mist: He did the opposite. The hunter entered through the rear door. It was the only other door to that facility, which was why I knew he was headed there. Mist was the closest of all of us to that door. With everyone's attention on the new arrivals, he was also the easiest to sneak up on. He picked Mist likely because he wouldn't need to get in the middle of the group or go out in the open to target him."
"Second, no hunter with any intelligence will try to take a Kaiju without using some drug or poison first, no matter how small. Kaiju have special abilities even when disguised, and can be trained to utilize superhuman strength even in disguised form."
"Third, using a ranged weapon at point-blank: have you ever tried to fire a liquid-filled syringe out of a compact crossbow? Given how many times I've been shot at with those things, I can tell you they aren't particularly reliable at medium to long ranges. They sacrifice accuracy for penetration ability. If he was going to make the shot count, he would have to get close. I can't imagine that gas mask he had on was helping his aim either."
"Finally, it's no secret that there are plenty of government officials who sympathize with hunters, or at the very least hate Kaiju enough to sell out to hunters. The problem is there's too many of them. We can barely investigate anyone because so many other officials will block any attempt to do so, no matter what evidence is presented. We can't investigate them all either without being accused of investigating political opponents. The KDF has it's eyes on several politicians, but it's hard to have your eyes on someone if their buddies are forcing a blindfold on you. In other words, he could have gotten that watch from any number of people, and you should pay close attention to a person's stance on Kaiju when you vote, because some will literally want them all dead."
Welsh Halfwit wrote:"I think we came in at the worst time for his plans is all," Julian commented, hoping to assuage the Feline's worries. "My manager often says nothing terrifies the prepared like a surprise." He shrugged. "Good job he didn't know I can't fight."
Heather nodded slowly. "It's possible. Hunters aren't normally master tacticians. They're hired thugs, or just regular hateful thugs. Likely the two of you showing up threw off his plan, but he still decided to go through with his initial plan and improvise from there. We'll know more once interrogation starts."Welsh Halfwit wrote:"I think we came in at the worst time for his plans is all," Julian commented, hoping to assuage the Feline's worries. "Wow... I'm okay, but that was really something! Are you okay after that?" Lightfoot asks, stripping off his gloves and making some notes on his clipboard.
"That felt like you healed me too. Do you know how you did that? Is it something you can control or is it more passive?"
~~~~~~~~
"Well, as I said, everyone sees the world differently. There are those who'd like to see Kaiju just as citizens like everyone else rather than as tools or defenders or entertainers. Different isn't necessarily wrong, it's just different. But you're welcome. I'll look forward to seeing you at the barbecue when we can discuss this more fully! In the meantime, my people will contact your people about those greenhouses. Same channels, same deal as last time." Jason says, standing, smiling and shaking the proffered hand.
~~~~~~~~
"Hmm... Could be fun. Could also be risky..." Ronan ponders, rolling lazily onto his back.
"You're not thinking of offering rides, are you? I mean, we can't even talk to them as Kaiju."

Mordecai nods and, shaking Jason hands, tells him "Looking forward to it! See you Saturday!" then leaves the office and heads back out to the waiting limo. Getting inside, he looks at the driver and said "Could you take me back to the pier? I want to chat with Ryan again..." but as he said that, there was something inside him telling him he would regret this...but he wasn't sure why.

Mist pauses, trying to figure out how to explain it without going into a long explanation of energy. "Baaaasically... Oof. Alright, so when I'm hurt, my vitality binds to my aura instead of dispersing. But since it's not part of my fields, I lose control of it and it becomes raw energy which is hyperreactive to other forms of energy. And since I use energy-based power as a Rakshasa, most effects in my range simplify to different forms of energy." He holds his expertly healed hand up, carefully inspecting it as he enjoys fully restored senses free from the exhaustion of the sleepless night. He grins cheerfully as he continues "Your effect turned into life energy, so I assume it was either some sort of renewal or healing. Then, because your energy came into contact with the raw energy, it set it off a health-conducive burst!" He seems proud of himself despite this being absolutely accidental. "But now that you've healed me, I can't do it again until I suffer a physical or mental ailment. I'm stable now." The spiel ends with a slight nod. "Pretty sure I got all that right. I can't actually tell."Hlaoroo wrote:"Wow... I'm okay, but that was really something! Are you okay after that?" Lightfoot asks, stripping off his gloves and making some notes on his clipboard.

Between the efforts of the three of them, Tigress goes silent. Julian's gentle speech, Gregg's practical (and helpfully simple) explanation, and finally Heather's ability to once again take charge of a situation bring her rage to a low boil. As logical thought finally begins to catch up to her fears and anger, she starts to listen, realizing that she's acting irrationally again. Her aggressive posture drops, and she turns her face downwards, looking annoyed. The fire in her eyes fades, as does the heat radiating from her paws as the will to fight drains away. The fact that she's managed to keep Mist safe this long is clearly luck, having not even seen the back door to the building as it blended perfectly into the identically blank wall and she clearly has no idea how to out-think the hunters. Hearing that anyone on the street could pick up lethal weaponry and a perfect sensor... She holds the sides of her head, elbows on her legs as she reminds herself that even if Heather had planned this somehow, she was the one who saved Mist. Tigress had failed. The void of emotion fills with soft despair, and she mutters "I hate this city." to herself, unable to look the others in the eyes, let alone try to justify her behavior.CyberDragon wrote: Heather raises a hand and starts counting her various responses on her fingers, rather than try to organize them into a single response.

"What? No!" Wildfire shook his head, sending plumes of smoke this way and that. "I have some dignity. Besides, that would be so dangerous in so many different ways, I wouldn't think of it. You're right, there are some risks involved in getting close, but if we're careful, everything will be safe. I wouldn't suggest it if there wasn't a simple way to do it safely."Hlaoroo wrote:"Hmm... Heather watched Tigress's anger and desire to fight drain away. She hoped that was the end of Tigress's constant doubt, but something about calming down, and how Tigress was positioned, spoke of a broken person. Tigress looked ashamed, and Heather could guess why. Heather knelt down next to Tigress, still towering over her despite being on one knee. "Hey. Things are going to be Ok." She said, trying to comfort the wildcat. "Believe it or not, I think I know what you're feeling. I don't have a kid, but I've seen enough people in this situation to know." She said, watching Tigress's response. "You're worried about Mist and his safety, especially since someone managed to sneak up on all of us today. Everyone except for me, a person you already don't trust. It's easier to blame a conspiracy of people we don't trust than it is to acknowledge that our best might not be good enough. That is something I have felt before. I think the shrinks call it 'Displacement.'" Heather had seen this sort of behavior in many people before. It's a common defense mechanism that most people use at one point or another.DdeeStar wrote:Between the efforts of the three of them, Tigress goes silent. Heather had a thought at that moment. She considered the idea for a short moment, then decided it wouldn't hurt to suggest it. "You know... We can give you professional training that compliments your skills and compensates for anything that might be considered a point of vulnerability. "I think I get it. So, you can't use your power unless you're injured either physically or mentally, right? Does this affect your ability to Shift too?" Lightfoot queries, scribbling away.
"We're definitely going to have to investigate this more thoroughly in a safer place. By safer, I mean a place that won't be damaged, or that it won't matter if it's damaged, if you have any more power bursts. For now, let's get you doing some exercises. Keeping your legs straight, can you try to touch your toes for me, please?" So saying, the doctor works the cat through a short sequences of stretches designed to test the limits of his flexibility. He then checks the cat's eyes, ears, and mouth, takes his vital signs, listens to his back and chest with his stethoscope and fills two small vials with blood from a needle inserted into the crook of the cat's arm.
"Well, you seem in good health all things considered. Try not to injure yourself for the sake of your powers too often and I'll be interested to talk to you more later on. Have you any questions for me before I let you go?" he asks, healing the small wound left by the needle and dropping his gloves into the bin.
~~~~~~~~
"Certainly, sir." the driver answers, shutting the door behind the horse and starting the engine again.
"Although you should know," he says over his shoulder as he pulls away from the curb, the partition between the driver and passenger compartments now open, "That if he's in Kaiju form then he goes by Ronan. That's his code name."
~~~~~~~~
"What's your idea for doing it safely then, friend?" he asks, rolling back onto his front again and waving cheerily at a stunned fisherman in a dinghy.

"Ronan, huh? Interesting name," Mordecai answers as he looks out the window at the passing buildings again while idly thinking about the BBQ this weekend and what he'd be making. But as they approached the pier, Mordecai suddenly said, "Driver, stop!" and, once it does, gets out of the limo and asks the driver, "What's with the crowd over there?" pointing towards a group of people standing about looking towards the water, "Is there a show I wasn't aware of?"

"Yeah. I haven't managed to do it an a stable state yet, I have to cause myself some form of mental anguish or just..." He brushes his claws along the X-scar's lines.Hlaoroo wrote:"I think I get it. Mist cooperates happily, shifting his suit as he stretches so as to not tear it accidentally. He deliberately turns his attention from the needle, feeling nothing as the blood is drawn. The injury's small enough that his energy leak is practically nothing, requiring hours to even show the effect with the matches.Hlaoroo wrote:"We're definitely going to have to investigate this more thoroughly in a safer place. It once again burns off the slight amount of energy, this time without any perceivable effect. He pulls the suit back on over the vest and replies "I'll be fine, I normally only get hurt by accident. So how'd you learn to do the healing thing? Did you have to study a lot of biology, or is that chemistry? Is it limited to just what you know the processes of or does the understanding apply generally across species?" He rapid-fires questions as he tries to figure out how the doctor gained power over life energy. He can't sense energies he can't understand, let alone manipulate them, so having a heads-up on what to study would please him greatly. He doesn't realize that most Kaijus' powers simply come from within, or that it takes more than just an understanding for him to attune himself.Hlaoroo wrote: "Well, you seem in good health all things considered. Tigress dropped her arms and turned to look up at Heather with a weary expression. She's still at a loss for words, especially when faced with her own feelings being broadcast by the one she's demonized so heavily.CyberDragon wrote: Heather watched Tigress's anger and desire to fight drain away. She holds back the immediate flood of disgust and indignation of even being offered such a thing, managing to consider the offer with a semi-clear head. She knows she'd be a terrible representative for Kaiju, and restraint wasn't a positive trait among Rakshasa, but she's constantly itching for a fight and this might be a suitable outlet. It'd fix a lot of the problems she'd been having keeping them fed and sheltered, but it would also mean coming clean about all she'd done across the years (as she assumed the KDF didn't know). If it led to her arrest, she wouldn't be able to go quietly, and she'd wreck Mist's chances of having this safe environment. She responds in a soft whisper. "How much do you know about us? Re: Non-HPU: Crater City
"Well, obviously we need to do it very carefully." Wildfire said, not very helpfully. Luckily, he continued to elaborate. "We can't just swim up to them and say hi. If we seem to be going for the pier, they might think we're trying to attack. We'll need to move casually and slowly, like we're just minding our own business and our business is just carrying us closer to the pier. As we get close, we could use the currents to slowly drift towards the pier. Don't make eye contact until we're next to them, and then we engage with them as casually as possible. Floating just on the other side of the rails and paying them no mind unless they address us directly. Once they invite it, we can interact more directly with eye contact, silent responses, and posing for photos with them if you're comfortable doing that." the dragon explained the procedure to his friend quite thoroughly, as though he had done this before. Which, quite simply, he had. Whenever he shifted, he had to make his intentions very clear to anyone nearby, whether he was trying to help build something, carry someone to safety, or fight off a threat, he knew how to keep people calm around him. At least, as much as any Kaiju can.Hlaoroo wrote:"What's your idea for doing it safely then, friend?" he asks, rolling back onto his front again and waving cheerily at a stunned fisherman in a dinghy.

Heather looked Tigress in the eye, weighing her knowledge and deciding it was best to just be forward about it. "We... know that you were sent here to destroy the city by your tribe. We found out after you were ostracized from your tribe that you refused to carry out their demands mostly due to first your anarchist friends and then due to your son being born. We know that you instead ended up befriending a group of anarchists. Theft, vandalism, trespassing, breaking and entering, general antics of someone who just enjoys some chaos... mostly minor crimes and misdemeanors." She said, listing a thorough knowledge of crimes Tigress was suspected of. She put a hand on Tigress's shoulder and tried to give a reassuring smile. "Nearly all of them over a decade past their statute of limitations. The rest are outside of KDF jurisdiction, and have the option of public service in place of jail time. Assuming we're correct about them, that is."DdeeStar wrote:Tigress brings her hands to her face, sitting back in the chair as she rubs her eyes. About me?"
Heather stood up, letting Tigress consider what she had said while she answered Julian. "If you were to join the KDF as a soldier, you would have to obey my orders and go through boot camp-style training. After initial training, you would be on call, and still might be called to fight or support combatants. That said, generally a rogue Kaiju only needs one to three KDF pairings to deploy, so the odds of you being required to fight would be small. We obviously have self-defense training, but it's a part of combat training. You'd learn how to use a gun in disguised form, heavy weaponry in Kaiju form, and fight with knives, fists, legs, powers, anything you can use. You'd be trained in lethal and non-lethal combat. In short, yes to all of what you asked, but you'd need to be prepared to take the baby with the bathwater, so to speak." She shrugged. "That said, the town does have civilian rolls, including a repair shop. There are also a number of self-defense trainers in town. Kaiju are often rightly concerned for their safety, and want to learn how to fight without resorting to their Kaiju form. The trainer can teach you to access your Kaiju strength, even in disguised form. I saw my partner pick up an RV with one hand without shifting after a few years at that place."Welsh Halfwit wrote:"Out of interest sir... Ma'am," Julian questioned, "any repair jobs going? Or self defence training? Like Aikido, of course?" He sighed. "Figure I should learn as they've gotten too close, you know?"

Julian chuckled. "Typical of me," he admitted, "I'd be interested in the repair posts but not the fighting. Certainly not the learning to kill part. It's just... not me."

"Yeah think so too, but before we go, I'll call them to ask them first."Hyper takes out the card with Heather's number and rethinks if he should call her. He decides to and takes out his phone. He dials her number and waits for her to pick up. “Nothing. I can’t get my paw into it, and, well, if something’s happening, I can’t tell,” Lyncus sighs, looking at Hyper again. “Maybe I should go to that place before I accidentally hurt someone with this thing.”

"To be honest, it's pretty instinctual. Once I figured out that I could do it it became about as thoughtless a thing to do as, say, shifting, or lifting up my paw. The species of the patient doesn't seem to have much of an effect, no, although it does need to be an animal. It doesn't work on plants for some reason." the doctor answers, raising his handpaw for effect before making another note on his clipboard.
"We'll definitely have someone train you in accessing and manipulating the energies you can control. I admit I've not come across a power quite like yours before but we do have some Kaiju with similar sorts of things. Hopefully we'll be able to find a way for you to tap into your powers without needing the stimulus of injury eventually." Lightfoot explains thoughtfully, tapping his pen.
"That's for the Colonel to sort out though. My job's just to make sure you're healthy and that you stay healthy. Here's my card. I do see Kaiju members of the public as well as the KDF so if you need anything or have any questions, do give me a call." the hare instructs, ushering the cat out.
"Make sure you finish your questionnaire and hand it back to Annie, okay? Right. Who's next?" he asks the assembled creatures.

"I think you'll find that's Ronan and Wildfire, sir." the driver grins, hearing a familiar growl in the distance.

"So... Kinda act like wild animals?" Ronan asks, suddenly feeling a bit nervous.
"I dunno actually. I'm not used to interacting with people in Kaiju form... Are you sure it'll be safe?"

"Ronan and Wildfi...oh" that was all he needed to hear as Mordecai knew exactly what those two were doing. Leaning up against the limo with his arms crossed and a sporting a scowl, Mordecai said to himself quietly, "Going by what he said earlier, I thought Ryan would've known better," then looked back at the gathered crowd, ranging from adults to children. While it was nice to see them smiling and being amazed at the sight, he personally wished that they were smiling at anything other then a ShowKaiju (a nickname his ancestors gave those who entertain mankind).Hlaoroo wrote:"I think you'll find that's Ronan and Wildfire, sir." the driver grins, hearing a familiar growl in the distance.

"Fighting isn't everything, so I don't blame you for wanting to do what you like, rather than something you don't," Gregg says to Julian, having mostly listened to the exchange between Heather and Tigress. He stands up and begins moving towards the doctors door, "I guess I'll go next."
Re: Non-HPU: Crater City
"Holy... You're serious? Stars above." Tigress's dead expression turns to an almost ecstatic smile. "After that question about being willing to fight family, I-heh-I thought you were going to make him arrest me." She brings her handpaws to her chest, sitting up straight as she tries to contain herself and not crush Heather in a hug on the spot. Suddenly overjoyed, she continues "I know I made some bad choices, self-control's not my strength. But if all I have to do is pick up some trash to get that off my head, I'll claim guilty and get it over with." Despite every instinct telling her that it might be a trap, at this point she's willing to take the chance. She'd been waiting for this since Mist was born.CyberDragon wrote:
Assuming we're correct about them, that is."
Mist walks out of the room with the card held out in front of him, angling it in the lights as if it were foil. He tucks it into his vest and cheerily whispers to Gregg as he passes "He's a healer!" He then sees Heather and Tigress, and expecting the worst, simply moves from the walkway and leans against the wall, trying not to interrupt. His idle smile changes to confusion as he sees Tigress suddenly so happy around the Colonel.Hlaoroo wrote:"To be honest, it's pretty instinctual. "Then I would suggest against becoming a soldier." Heather said, frankly. "There are other ways to get what you're looking for. There are plenty of repair jobs in town and in the city, and you can find self-defense instructors just about anywhere. Don't dedicate yourself to the military if you aren't ready for the training, discipline, and obligations that come with such a commitment."Welsh Halfwit wrote:Julian chuckled. "Nah. I was more meaning if your tribe sends, like, a cousin or something of his to the city to kick down the Giant's Gate Bridge. He'd have to be willing to fight them to protect the city. The KDF doesn't send Kaiju soldiers after people for shoplifting and old cases of property tagging." She smiled lightheartedly and offered a hand to Tigress to shake. "Truce? "Not really like wild animals... Though I suppose it's all appealing to instinct since we can't talk to them like this. I've done this before. It's pretty standard for whenever you're dealing with people directly as a Kaiju." Wildfire said, shrugging slightly as he paddled around in the water. He took another look over at the pier when he noticed something familiar in the distance. It was hard to make it out, but what were the odds of some other rich person pulling up to the pier in a limo the same color and shape as Ronan's? "Though we might not get the chance to decide. Isn't that your limo?"Hlaoroo wrote:"So... Kinda act like wild animals?" Ronan asks, suddenly feeling a bit nervous.

Julian sighed, slightly disappointed that he seemed to have irritated the Colonel somehow. It certainly hadn't been his intention. "Any of those trainers you'd recommend" he asked, "that aren't charlatans and don't cost much?"

"Wonderful! Gregg, isn't it?" Lightfoot enthuses, leading the human into the room and shutting the door behind him.
"So, first thing's first. Hop on the scales and then stand under the tape measure, please. Do you have any preexisting injuries or other medical conditions I should know about?"
~~~~~~~~
The driver, knowing his place, doesn't comment. He just stands quietly by the car, a slight smile on his face as he awaits further orders.
~~~~~~~~
Ronan squints a little. His eyesight isn't quite as good in Kaiju form as it is in his disguised form.
"I think it is, yeah. I suppose we should see what's going on. Better not talk to him in Kaiju form though. We can't give him away. Should we shift and go back to Fred's?"

Re: Non-HPU: Crater City
Tigress spares a quick second to fantasize about the beatdown she'd inflict on another Rakshasa dumb enough to invade the town. After snapping back to reality with Heather's movement, she gives a slight nod and shakes Heather's hand gratefully. Her handpaws are still notably warm from the heat preparation earlier, but they've long lost any actual threat. "Yeah, truce. I'll behave. And, well, getting that fixed would be amazing, but I promised that eavesdropping little rascal like a dozen buffets after he finished this whole test thing." Mist smiles and waves, happy to hear that they're getting along somehow. "If there's time, sure, but don't spread yourself too thin, I'm sure you've got something else important to do." She finishes with a nonchalant air, as if it was nothing, trying to seem pleased without making her embarrassment clear. Mist immediately recognizes that she's trying to play it off because he's watching and moves to take a seat near Julian. He chooses to entertain himself by visually checking Julian for any sign of what his Kaiju-ism may be.CyberDragon wrote: "Nah.
