This is exactly why I don't wear the label loudly. People don't need to know unless it comes up specifically.

...This reminds me of a few weeks ago, whereby a random dude from my campus remarked, "...Oh, you're one of those... fuzzy... people'z, aren't you?" ...>3>;;
This gave me a good laugh.

In person, I am one of the least hugable people ever. I dun do such things with random people or anyone but family really. On here, I am still mighty shy with hugging now. ^^;

According to my friends at college, people from New Jersey are inherently good huggers. They've deduced this because apparently both my friend from high school and I are good huggers.

I guess I'm not really against hugging, so much as I've grown up under the mindset that any physical contact beyond a high-five should be reserved for family and potential girlfriends, so I rarely offer hugs or actively make a move to hug someone unless I really like them. And even then it still takes a long, drawn out internal battle with myself to just do it. :B

On topic though, I'd be okay with renaming furries "The Fuzzy People" fandom. :3

"Furries" is perfectly cute sounding too! It just has a bad reputation as a word with some folks.

I'm pretty huggable myself, but I respect when some people aren't.

Actually I don't think I'm a furry anymore. I literally do nothing that most furries do and I don't even care much about the fandom. Not an anti-furry but I think I would avoid furries in real life. I haven't actually met one outside of the internet however, so maybe that might change.

No worries at all, but just remember that everyone goes about the fandom in different ways, so I can assure you I do not show it in real life all to much.

A furry doesn't have to care about the fandom. Furries just have to like the anthropomorphs, really. :3

I actually read the "Urban Dictionary" definitions for furries expecting the worse, but there were actually a few thoughtful definitions people of the fandom obviously came up with. The most prevalent feature there that seemed to characterize a furry was simply personal choice. Then it delved into the different reasons that people would make that personal choice, being fans of anthropomorphic material, acting like an anthropomorphic character, etc.

So, there's not exactly "Level 1 Furry Fan", but more "Furry because of..." type levels (I'd have to agree). However, it sounds as though "levels of furriness" being discussed here refer to how much one lets it alter their lifestyle.

Also, speaking of the media, I saw some sort of news station broadcast a story about a furry convention in a very positive light. They talked about how it really helped the local economy by bringing in large amounts of visitors, and how the visitors themselves were very peaceful and nice to the locals. The coverage made sure to emphasize the innocent nature of the convention. I actually thought for awhile that that might've been a turning point, but it proved to just be a small anomaly in the greater media kingdom. Just like the anomalies that give us a bad reputation, I might add.

What news station is it? I know at least that Pittsburgh loves furries; Anthrocon brings the city millions of dollars in business every year.

Also, when it comes to categorizing furries, you've got your Jade furries, your Nepeta furries, and your Equius furries. [/Homestuck]

What is a Jade, Nepeta, and Equius furry? I've never even heard of those.

they are references to Homestuck. Jade likes anthropomorphic animals and imagines what it would be like to be one, but wouldn't wear a fur suit because it would be just a girl in fake fur.

Nepeta wears a tail and acts like a cat (or rather an alien cat-like creature)

not sure of the Equius one, because I didn't see him as any type of furry as far as I've read.

Nepeta basically lives like a cat. Loves role playing, shipping, killing and eating wild animals with her bare hands, and other stuff you can expect from more obsessive furries.

Equius... uh... the less said about him the better.

Wait, are there are actually furries who hunt for their food using their bare hands?

Because if so...Woah. That's, uh... quite a thing.

everyone else is just a freak
