I don't even think it was bad! I think people get hung up on it not being like Mario at all, so they call it a bad movie. I just see it as "two plumbers have a sci-fi adventure" in which case it's an awesome fun movie!

That = truth. I really loved the movie, so what if it wasn't really like Mario? Anything with John Leguizamo is usually pretty good. :D Check the live action Spawn movie, that was pretty good too.. although, this was the only good part of Romeo + Juliet.. (which I gotta say the only good thing about the movie was Leguizamo as Tybalt) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7lP4E_s80o It's sooo bad its good! XD

That was actually my favourite scene!

Although I also don't think Romeo + Juliet was bad. I think it was awesome and that it's humour was intentional. Then again, I think My Immortal was intentional so maybe I'm just insane?

well see that's the problem. Romeo and Juliet was never meant to be intentionally funny. The lines they speak are the same as in the original, it is funny cause they modernized it and that's why it seems so humorous. It wasn't too terrible though, I just prefer the original..

I'm aware the lines are the same. I saw it right after doing a 4 week study on the play (by that time I basically knew the whole script) so I recognised the lines and saw when there were scenes that were cut out and whatnot.

But come on, they could have modernised it without being as funny as it was. It seemed to me they were trying to make it funny as part of the entertainment. They had sword sound affects with those guns, the gangs were hilariously over the top, I mean...I'm sure it was on purpose. It had good actors in it, people who know how to act, no way they were just being bad.

At least I hope not.

I just watched Christopher Nolan's (Inception) early film The Prestige, and man was it amazing! The last shot and the timing of the sound cutting off before the credits haunted me. In addition, I watched Lost in Translation, which again showed that Bill Murray is a comic genius. Then there was Raging Bull, with Robert DeNiro and my favorite director of all time Martin Scroscece (I still can't spell his name) and finally I veiwed Watchmen for the second time since it came out and I was reminded again of how amazing it was.

Interstella 5555

Also, I'm going to point out that anime and animation aren't really that different. Sure, anime is japanese, and therefore often represents japanese culture, but it's still an animated work. To give an individual label to a single country's output just because it's highly appreciated in foreign markets/is done well by said country seems somewhat silly to me. I love anime, don't get me wrong, I just don't love it enough to agree with it being separate than animation as a whole.

And now I've made every otaku on the forum mad. :P

By definition, anime is animation. I think people get so uppity about the definitions. They're the same thing, just made by different cultures, so they're going to tend to have different styles. The line isn't even that important anymore, if you compare things like Avatar: The Last Airbender to the current reimagining of Apocalypse Meow.
