"Motorbikes?" Lorne was taken aback a bit. He was admittedly so used to older ladies driving older cars that hearing one ask about motorcycles came as a complete shock to him, "Well, yes I do. If I may, why do you ask?"Hlaoroo wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 8:23 am "Vell, Herr Zachary, ve vill haff to gettink you a library card so you are not being escorted out next time, ja?" Frau Schmidt suggests before turning back to Lorne.
"Danke!" she says again, reading and then pocketing the card.
"You are vorkink on motorbikes too, ja?" she asks.

Unsure of how to respond to Zachary's final comment, Calista welcomes Scotty's question and the repositioning... at least until the sudden warmth makes her jump with a surprised squeak. "Ah, thank you, but that might be a bit too warm for just stepping in from the cold," she says, sighing relief as she steps back out from under the direct blast from the heater.
"Calista. Calista Alderink," she finally answers, looking over the group as a whole. "Sorry that it slipped me until now that I hadn't said it, guess I'm used to everyone being stuck on the skin thing a bit longer than that..." she finishes with a sheepish smile, rubbing the back of her neck.

"Well, if you want to borrow this," Zachary said, indicating his body warmer, "whilst we're in here, of course, just ask." He frowned slightly. "Is it OK to offer that? I... haven't really been out with many friends before..."

"Yeah, most mechanics nowadays really act like they know it all," Lorne replied, shaking his head, "Tell you what, bring the bike over to my shop tomorrow and I'll repair the carburetor for you. IF I have to replace it, though, I'll have to order the parts ahead of time as I know I don't have any parts for a Bonneville in my garage but, yeah, bring it over tomorrow and I'll see what I can do."

"A few weeks. I only just managed to get to the point of convincing Mr. and Mrs. Alderink that this stuff is sufficient enough to let me get away from the house for a bit if I'm careful and step out of the cold now and then. Their condition was that I let them know where I am any time I stop somewhere, or send a message if I need a ride home," she answers with a smile. "And while I do appreciate the--yes, socially acceptable--offer, I feel I need to clarify the statement about hypothermia and frostbite was a joke. I'm reasonably cold, not threateningly so," she clarifies, smile turning a bit more sheepish towards the end.
"Now, let's not get caught up on that, right? What have we got for thrillers? This library have video or just books? Either's good with me."

Meeko looked around the yard, unless they were going to gather snow from their neighbor's yards it seemed there would not be enough snow left around them after a snowball fight and making one sculpture. He looked at Chris to see if she had a possible positive answer to her own question.

"Well, there's certainly books," Zachary told the newest of his new friends. His ears dipped as he put a clawtip to his teeth in thought. "Err... what's a vid ey oh?" He looked to the others in his slight confusion.

"Yeah, this library has everything!" Scotty agrees with Frau Schmidt before turning to Zachary.
"Video is... Oh, you know when you said you saw Stephen Hawkings on TV at the school? That would have been a video. It's a way of storing the recorded image and sound of a person or situation so it can be shown on TV later."

"Hmm, yeah, you're right, Meeko. Dere's not really enough snow left fer dat, is dere? Maybe we should go fer a walk instead, see if we can't find some more pets to 'ang out wiv."

The sphinx cat laughs softly at the combined enthusiasm of Frau and Scotty, before giving a shrug. "I'm going to be honest, I don't actually pay attention to who does the media; I just know what is and isn't my kind of horror. Existentialism is the thing I don't enjoy. Of course, I don't think it's bad, it's just not the kind of scare I'm after. I want the excitement of monster chases, or dark and foreboding sheds with fake witches screaming hexes with knives in hand." She smiles a little sheepishly. "Consider me simple."

"Ah, right," Zachary said before turning to the new lady. "You can't be as simple as I am," he told Calista, "because I didn't understand any of that!"

"Ja, I sink so. Is near to zee electrician, ja?" Frau Schmidt asks.
~~~~~~~~
"I agree." Scotty says via his tablet.
"I don't mind a jump scare and I love a good ghost story but existentialism is just too depressing, I find." He hands his books to the librarian to return and then swivels his chair around towards the interior of the library.
"Shall we go look at the books? I'll give you the grand tour if you like." he offers.
"Do you like ghosts, Calista, Zachary?" he asks.
Zachary chuckled. "I've been one, once or twice," he told the others. "Heard the students talk about them on occasions so, a few times, Wed made sure the spy lenses didn't see me moving things around in the rooms at night. Spooked a few class leaders... uh, teachers." He followed Scotty on the tour now he was actually allowed in here.
Re: HPU: Sunset Plateau
Calista eyes Zachary, an ear perked with some interest in his words before she laughs softly. "Ghosts are fun. They're a lot more versatile in how they're presented," she continues as she follows after Scotty. "Even benign and helpful ghosts can be frightening in their portrayals, so it's certainly a more fun focal entity for horror overall... but I have to admit to being a sucker for monsters that just... chase and pop out at you.
"I'm assuming your bit as a ghost had much less of that," she adds teasingly towards Zachary, even as her eyes scan over the rows of books around them.
Meeko stared at the what was left of the snow in the yard and the snowdog that they had made out of it for a little while, while thinking about going for a walk. After a quick adjustment of his scarf and gloves, "Be ashamed to waste a good day like this, a walk sounds delightful."
Frau Schmidt promises that she'll call ahead and then sends Lorne on his way into the library with the other pets.
Scotty leads the way into the library and stops his chair in a well-lit T-shaped open space. Having just come from the vertical part of the T the building spreads to the left and the right and there's an elevator and drinking fountain flanked by doors to the restrooms on the wall directly ahead of the pets. Above the group is a large skylight and the balcony of the first floor beyond which shelves of books can be seen. A staircase rises at each side of the space against the front wall to provide access to the first floor for the able bodied.
"So, down here we have the reference section to your left. Encyclopaedias, dictionaries, maps, religious texts, that kinda stuff. Newspapers and microfiche are also that way. To the right is the media section. Audiobooks, DVDs, CDs, even some old cassettes and VHS tapes. Also the computer lab if anyone needs to use a computer. Above and behind us is the kiddy section and above us to the left and right are the adult fiction and non-fiction sections. And yeah, that's pretty much it. Any questions?" Scotty gestures to the various parts of the library as his tablet talks, waiting to call the lift until he knows whether or not his companions want to explore the lower floor.
"Let's do it. Which way shall we go? We could go to da diner fer a 'ot NotChocolate or we could check out the library or the park..."
