How Does Aging Work?

Post by Dogglar »

I mean, I could just be overthinking it, but like how does aging work in Housepets?

(Just discovered the comic over Christmas. You've made me an addict.)

First of all, welcome to the forum. I hope that you have a really nice time here. We need to get new members because its always nice. We want to make sure that the forum can stay as populated as possible. Hope to see you around.

Second, its basically one rule you need to remember: the characters age when Rick says so. xP

Except for Deadeye wolf and maybe the Hermit, the only senior characters seem to be the occasional "little old lady type".

The only older character that we know of that aged as the comic had gone on and he wasn't seen was Rufus and we know that because he eventually died from old age.

Yeah I think it's funny because I did a "death tally and It's technically 0. Because while Rufus died, Breel un-died

Then all of the denizens in the comic that were shown in heaven haven't really died in the comic since they were already dead to start with so we don't count them.

Well yeah I guess not. Unless of course I wanted to embark on a mathematical/historical adventure and do the math.

No it's still 1, although he's a minor chracter, Grape ate Faust

There's another one.Grape crushed the injured bird and presumably ate it.

There is a reason why they are minor characters and that is because nobody can remember them from their one-offs. LOL

True, but what's being "spoiled.?" Those are pretty ancient strips.

Oh, well, it's of no great matter whyever it is..... ;)

Good point about Faust and the bird

And I just want to be sure that I don't spoil anything for someone that may find the comic and follow the forums at the same time as their venture through the comic.
Or something like that. xd Just making sure I don't spoil.

There's definitely more I'm missing, so I'll make a mental note to actively count next time I restart the comic

So you constantly restart the comic all over from the beginning? Wow you must have a lot of time on your hands.

Eh idk I guess I just read a lot at once

And I mean like the next time because I actually started re-reading for the first time at the beginning of the month and I just finished Temple Crashers I. So just in the future, I'd make a count.

This question raises another question in my mind. Do animals go through puberty? Marion and Lois implied that female ones have periods, so when would those start?
Idk, maybe this question is too gross to think about.

Now that we have two teenagers as animals, my question is will they stay as teenagers or will they age somehow while everybody else doesn't? :ugeek:

I’m torn between saying “Just don’t think about it” and really wanting to think about it

I guess so? But if we go by standard pet years (1 human:7 pet) they’d only be teenagers for one year.

But we don't go by that model because pets live about twice as long in this universe ;)

Like I said, its better not to think about it so you don't end up breaking your brain really badly.

Though I thought they were younger than teenagers for a while but that was because they are all strapped in toddler carseats when they drive in the car. Like Baby Looney Tunes.

It's funny to think that they're still technically older than almost the whole cast except King, and possibly Miles and the older Wolves. Although Rufus would be if still alive, and Breel of course, although in terms of years lived mortally he might be younger since it's unknown how old he was when he died.

Yeah Pete must have done some age-work so King didn't instantly turn like 80

Couldn't have said it any better.

It was brought up at the time (and in the title text) that humans are in the vast minority of animals for having periods. Whether or not pets in that universe have them depends as much on how anthropomorphized they are as much as it does how old they are. Of course, Puberty isn't only about changes like that. Part of Peanut's sudden attraction to Grape early in the comic could've been in part to new hormones, for instance.

They would be in toddler car seats even as adults because pets simply don't grow as big as humans, but I can totally see how that scene would color your impression of them regardless.
The cape comes with the promotion.

You should also keep in mind that when I first started reading the comic a few months after my grandfather's death when I finally felt better I didn't really comprehend it or get anything until I got to the page where Joel was transformed and then the penny dropped for me.
