Welsh Halfwit wrote:"Well," Jake said, nodding towards the group at the shop and calling slightly over the wind to Bonnie, "I see one familiar face. That's Sandy, isn't it?"
"Yeah, so holly's probably near. and that looks like amanda, uh... boots? um, and the other cat..." bonnie answers her voice dropping in volume as she struggles with the names. "I have no idea who the rest are though."

After a moment she laughs to herself and adds, "Unless rig bleached his fur, got shorter, and grew a new eye in the last five hours."
SeanWolf wrote:"Uh, what's going on, Rua?" Leon, who just finished shaking the one's paw, asks as he just realized that the area of the mall they are at is suspiciously empty, all the while covering his right paw as he felt it twitching and pulsating again like earlier.
"You're the one that can hear what the distant three are saying, you tell me." She comments before noticing two more approach, watching them approach while alex explains things to leon.
Welsh Halfwit wrote:"Uh, oh," Jake muttered. "two super-teams meet..."
"and we don't have an evacuated airport to stick em in." Bonnie comments, picking up the pace as they get closer. "What? that wasn't my first movie."

"And now there's more of you. Should i be concerned than no ones tone or subject changed when the hare who feels entirely mundane walked up?" Rua gestures first to socks then to Leon as she continues, more asking sandy and alex than her own companions, "Not faint or like a weird absence, just normal."

"Uh... Nice to meet you too?"

Alex just shrugged at Rua's question about the approaching hare. "I'm used to taking the crazy in stride. If this place wants to throw the magical together, eh, let it. Unless it threatens to explode, then..."

Amanda stepped a bit forward. "O-oh, uh, that's J-Jake and Bonnie. We, uh, met them earlier."

Alex laughed lightly at that. "Ha, at this rate we can open up a spell book club for all the magically inclined in town, purely from them running into 'Mandy and her group." For the first time she would reach for the flask on her harness, unscrew the top and drink from it before putting it back. "Better than a half block brawl."

Amanda let out an irritated sigh and crossed her arms, flecks of frost flowing from her in the process. "No, that was yesterday." She said, voice much firmer than before, which brought another laugh from Alex.

Kaylee hunkered down to be level with Phoebe as Amanda spoke with the other one.. "It's OK," she said neatly, "you feel the wind blowing all around us? That's me." She smiled. "I can't always control that, either. But I can try and be calm, which usually helps." She closed her eyes for a moment and focussed on calming her own fears. The wind subsided to a cool breeze before she opened the eyes again. "I'm Kaylee, by the way."

Leon just glares at Rua, keeping a comment to himself before turning his attention back to Sandy...

"Oh uh..." Realizing his paw was still twitching, and feeling like an earlier incident was going to repeat itself, Leon quickly adds, hoping they wouldn't catch on, "Oh, you didn't scare me...um, I'm just a bit nervous around new people hehe..."

"Well you're doing better than I am," Kaylee said in a conspiratorial tone, "You can usually tell if I'm scared because Garbage Bins explode. Now, could you ask 'Ghostie' to try to stop try and stop what they're doing to Socks? We're no threat. Honest. Cold spiders, eh? I like it."

As if in response to Kaylee's request, an eerie, otherworldly whispering could be heard from behind Phoebe. It wasn't any language known to mortals, but hearing it sends chills down the listener's spine. The dark patch on Phoebe's back started to shift, then move up towards her shoulder. The shadow separated from Phoebe's fur, turning into a nightmarish, dead, skeletal hand, black as pitch with long, wicked, spiderlike claws at the end of each finger. The horrible hand moved up, and tugged slightly on Phoebe's ear. The rabbit turned her head and listened to the nightmare's unearthly whispers.

"Ghostie... says he's not doin' anything. Or, not tryin' to. He says... it's just what he is. He can't stop." Phoebe translated.

When she was done, the claw released Phoebe's ear. It brushed the fur on her head gently, causing her to shiver. As if realizing what it did, the hand recoiled and something hissed. The claw pulled back, and melted back into Phoebe's fur.

"Ah, Oooookay" Kaylee said, thinking to change tack slightly as Amanda dealt with the others, "w-well thank you for trying, Ghostie," she said uncertainly, looking directy where she thought the spirit had been. She decided to try and charm Phoebe, or at least amuse her. "You probably deserve something for being brave," she told her, reaching into her jacket pocket. "Let's see what I have in here. Nope," she said, pulling out a Banana, "that won't do. Nor that," she added, pulling out an Orange. "I'll be able to make a Fruit Salad if I'm not careful," she said, beginning to pull out a vuvuzela. "Nope," she said, pushing it back down and eventually coming up with a Yo-yo. "Ah! Have you ever played with a Yo-yo?"

Rua, who had followed Phoebe over is a bit confused at Kaylee's lack of reaction. "You're just taking that in stride? Even i tried to tie him up the first time he popped up..."

Kaylee looked up at Rua. "But you haven't tried now," she said. "and I've got a reason not to be shocked by ghosts these days?" She stood up, transferred the Yo-yo to her left paw to keep offering it to Phoebe, and offered Rua her right. "Plus fear is really dangerous when you have the power of a storm elemental?"

"Oh. Well... Jutht think of uth ath friendth you don't know yet!" Sandy smiles at the wolf.

As the creepy, skeletal hand appears it's immediately spotted by an observant rat.
"What the-?" she squeaks, cutting herself off by clapping her paws over her mouth, both in a vain attempt to avoid giving herself away, and to avoid swearing in front of the kit.

"He... It's telling the truth, Kaylee." Socks informs the cat from his "safe" distance. "I can feel remorse."

Phoebe looked around at the group gathering around them, and felt... strangely calm. She felt as if the people here understood. Perhaps not everything, but they were like her. She felt like they were safe. It was a similar feeling she had when she first decided to fully trust Rua. "Ghostie..." she said. "I think you can come out. I think they're safe."

Phoebe took a few steps back, but her shadow didn't follow her. It remained where it was, like a black stain on the floor. The skeletal hand from before reached out and grabbed the floor, pushing against it and pulling the rest of the creature's arm slowly into view. A second clawed hand shot out of the other side of the shadow and gripped the floor there as well. The two hands pushed, and the Nightmare, the demonic manifestation of pure fear, started to emerge like a zombie from the grave, or like a living corpse rising from a pit of tar. It's skull rose out of the shadow, distinctly leporine in nature, with long ears and empty, chilling eye sockets. It's teeth were sharp and dagger-like, and shadows dripped from it's jaws like drool as it rose. The rest of it's body followed. It's bones were black as obsidian. It's hollow rib cage seemed to house pure darkness. It finished climbing out of the shadow, which vanished from the ground. It stared at Kaylee with it's icy gaze, then turned it's empty glare on where Holly was hiding. It breathed a long, rattling breath, then turned it's attention back to Kaylee and the yo-yo.

"This is Ghostie." Phoebe said. "He's my friend. He keeps me safe."

Alex was silent for a moment as Ghostie revealed himself and let out a sign, reaching for her flask again. "Well, I'm glad he isn't bad, because that is leagues above my pay grade."

Amanda meanwhile only suffered a twitch of her eye and some extra frost as she tried to ignore Ghostie and address Bonnie. "Yesterday or day before yesterday when Kaylee and I ran into everyone else. Remember when I mentioned a flamethrower? It was during that." She pressed her paw against her head lightly as some memories recent and old began to surface, forcing them down. "Ugh, I think I am losing track of time. So much has happened in less than a week!"

"Huh, I guess I didn't... realize..." Bonnie trails off as an errant glance sideways entirely derails her train of thought. she couldn't help but agree with jake comparing his durability to a fancy pudding... faintly muttering "is that a shade?! Where did she find that kind of undead?" not entirely realizing she'd said that out loud, and instinctively making the hand signs to activate a basic protection spell, which lacking energy immediately fizzles out before the circle is even fully formed.

"Ow. owowowow. Stupid."

Rua meanwhile is a bit distracted by trying to help kaylee with a bit of a counterspell against her winds. Unlike bonnie, she doesn't even try to conceal what she's doing, and isn't bottomed out on power.

As Ghostie fully materialises, the feel of his presence suddenly intensifies and Socks silently sags on the bench, slipping senselessly onto his side.

Sandy and Holly stare transfixed at the ghoulish sight, trying and failing to process it. Without him realising it, Sandy's tail tucks itself firmly between his legs.

Welsh Halfwit wrote:"Now THAT," Kaylee said, doing all she could to keep her winds down as the yo-yo dangled at 45 degrees, "is impressive. H...hello, 'G...Ghostie."
The Nightmare tilted it's head slightly, looking at the dangling yo-yo. It held up one of it's hands, and the toy flung itself from Kaylee's hand into Ghostie's. It's breath rattled as it inspected the toy with it's cold, empty eyes. It found the loop on the string where one's finger is supposed to go, and it stuck it's middle claw through it. It let the yo-yo dangle for a bit, blowing in Kaylee's wind. Ghostie tried swinging it back and forth like a pendulum, but it hissed softly and rattled it's head. Then it seemed to catch on to what it was supposed to do. The spirit picked the yo-yo up and wrapped the string back around it, held the toy in it's hand, and let it roll out. The demon observed, apparently fascinated by the spinning toy as it rested at the bottom of it's string. Ghostie flicked it's finger up, and the yo-yo shot back up to it's hand.

The skeletal demon's skull started rattling excitedly. It's head spun 180 degrees on it's neck with a sickening crack to look at Phoebe, who yelped in surprise. Ghostie turned it's body to match it's head and glided up to Phoebe. It took her hand, opened it, put the yo-yo in her palm, and started miming the motion it used to play with it. Confused, Phoebe started mimicking Ghostie's movements. The yo-yo went down, then shot back up to her hand. Phoebe's ears perked up, and after a few more rounds, she was smiling. A couple more, and she was giggling happily.

"Ow. owowowow. Stupid."
Phoebe's ear swiveled in the direction of Jake and Bonnie. "I dunno what a "shade" or "undead" is. The nice police officer man said Ghostie's a... Nightmare dee mon. Somethin' to do with fear. I dunno. Ghostie had my ears covered for a lot of what he was sayin'." She said casually while she played some more with the yo-yo, managing to get it to roll on the ground and come back to her hand. "Ooh! Didja see that, Miss. Rua?"
Buster wrote:Rua meanwhile is a bit distracted by trying to help kaylee with a bit of a counterspell against her winds. Unlike bonnie, she doesn't even try to conceal what she's doing, and isn't bottomed out on power.

"Oh..." Phoebe looked up from the yo-yo at Rua, and noticed some of the general reactions to Ghostie. Including Socks, who seemed to be fainting. "sorry..." she said, guilt clear in her tone. "G-ghostie... I think you should hide again... I-I think you're scaring people." she said sadly. The Nightmare seemed to listen, as it started to sink down into the floor, dissolving into a disembodied shadow which merged with Phoebe's own. Socks would feel the intensity of fear lessen significantly.

Phoebe walked shyly up to Kaylee and handed her the yo-yo. "Sorry... Here's your yo yo back."

CyberDragon wrote:"Oh..." Phoebe looked up from the yo-yo at Rua, and noticed some of the general reactions to Ghostie.

"Oh, hold on Phoebe!" Leon suddenly interjects, the twitching in his paw gone. Looking to Kaylee, he points to the yo-yo in question and asks "Mind if I give it a go? I somewhat was able to use one when I was a young pup."

Kaylee hadn't exactly been unphased when Ghostie had done the neck cracking thing but, with the sick feeling receding she was OK to look when Leon spoke to her. "Oh," she said hesitantly, "you'll need to ask Phoebe." She hunkered back down to face the Rabbit. "It was a gift, sweetie. And you were doing well for a first timer." She grinned. "So was Ghostie." She felt her winds receding and wondered if it was to do with her relaxing or Rua's spells. It didn't really matter. There was something amusing about a fear demon playing with a yo-yo.

Alex seemed to choke on her drink when Phoebe said what Ghostie was, causing her to cough and a red droplet of whatever was in her flask to dribble onto her chin. "Nightmare Demon?!" She regained her composure quickly and cleaned her chin with her paw. "I'm sorry." She said, the horror of thinking what Phoebe must have gone through overwhelming her embarrassment of spilling some of her drink.

Amanda was also taken off guard by the name, with what limited knowledge she had. Once again unpleasant memories forcing themselves to the front of her mind. She placed a paw against the side of her head, not saying anything and instead opting to once again repress her thoughts as much she can. By the amount of frost flowing off her it did not appear she was succeeding that much.

Nodding, Bonnie silently follows Jake over to the bench where Socks is.

Rua meanwhile is looking a bit torn, her harsh words had been directed at the other cat's lack of control, not phoebe. Yet the rabbit had technically been instigating the problem. "No, i didn't mean... Come here." she says, fumbling the first part a bit before pulling phoebe into a hug.

"I wasn't mad at you."

"I think it was more me your mom was talking about, Phoebe," Kaylee said, chuckling at Leon's yo-yo antics. She stood and 'dusted' herself off as the winds quietened. "Trouble with being self taught is you quickly learn all the lessons you know how to teach." She put a hand on Phoebe's shoulder. "You didn't know what would happen. We didn't know. Ghostie didn't know really, yeah?"

Jake sat to one side of Socks and put the Cat in the recovery position as Bonnie joined them. "I'm pretty sure he'll be OK," the Chocolate Rabbit advised.

the others might notice that rua's tone is a lot calmer and softer when she talks to phoebe, lacking the occasional sarcasm and harsh edge her words seem to have with everyone else. "You didn't know, but now you do, and you two are going to be more careful next time, right?"

"Y-yes Miss Rua..." Phoebe sniffed, still hugging her guardian. After a short while, she stepped back and wiped her eyes, trying to put a smile back on.

Phoebe didn't really know what the cat was talking about regarding being self taught. The rabbit didn't teach herself anything that she could think of. However, her mention of the word "mom" caused Phoebe to look towards Rua curiously. Should she be calling Rua Mom? Was Rua her Mom now? How did it work? Did Rua want her to call her Mom? It felt weird. After all, technically they only met each other today. She should ask about that...

Phoebe was suddenly distracted from her thoughts when Leon handed her the yo-yo back. She was in the middle of crying in Rua's arms when he clonked himself on the head, so she didn't react to that moment of slapstick. Instead, she simply thanked him and accepted the toy back, wrapping the string around her finger again.

Phoebe once again became distracted as a thought occurred to her. That, and her nose started wrinkling at the all too painfully familiar scent of the liquid in that flask. "Why're you sorry? Ghostie and I were the ones to scare everyone... And how come you're drinking blood? That's kinda weird... Blood tastes really bad..."

Alex shrugged as she put her flask back, taking the question in stride. "I need the blood as medicine to help a magical affliction I have. Yeah, you never do get used to the taste. As for my sorry... well, I'm just sorry for what must have happened for Ghostie to have come to your aid. And I'm just glad you have Ghostie to protect you, as well as your friends there! Silver linings and all that." She turned slightly and grimaced at Socks' pain. "Just really hope the Matriarch can get that enchanted whatever to us ASAP, so Socks doesn't have to go through something like this again."

Amanda meanwhile managed to recoup her composure for the most part, but found the whole situation bothersome all the same when a thought came to her mind. "Hmm. In all this excitement we forgot our main objective." She looked at Rua with a neutral, almost bored looking gaze. "We were following a mysterious flying object that came this way. I assume it was one of you." While worded like a question, Amanda didn't say it like one as she felt it unlikely to be unconnected by that point.

"We did track it right to here," Kaylee asserted. "Sandy's good at tracking and I was able to track it through the hole it made in the wind." She rubbed the back of her neck. "Even if I'm not really sure HOW I did that," she added lamely.

"Do you even know what the object you're looking for looks like?" she answers back skeptically.

bonnie, meanwhile, has spent the last few minutes dragging both jake and socks away from the rest of the group toards a first aid room she knows the mall has thanks to work. Setting the unconscious cat down on the cot she starts checking him for bruises and breaks properly, not taking any chances considering he landed on a stone tile floor.

"regardless i haven't seen anything just fly through the mall for no apparent reason." Rua states, quite certain she would have spotted that. "and you still seem like you dont even know what the object your looking for looks like. How are you supposed to find it?"

- - -

"Actually it's easier to check certain things if he's awake and alert. or atleast alert-ish." bonnie states before stepping away from socks side and retrieving a penlight from a drawer after searching "mainly i just want to make sure he didn't land hard enough to give himself a concussion or something. the floor is stone tile over concrete, not exactly forgiving, and he dropped like a sack of potatoes." she explains before turning her attention back to the 'injured' cat.

Thankyou field response training... too bad most of it was focused on dealing with burns and smoke inhalation... not useful here. she thinks to herself as she does a quick eye-check on socks for irregular dilatation. gently trying to push his hand away from his head.

"Any dizziness or headache?" she asks, now focused on the cat she's checking.

Leon, whose head is feeling a bit better from the evil yo-yo*, adds "I have to agree with Rua here. If you don't know what you're looking for, then what help can we give? Do you have a general idea as to what this 'thing' is?"

*Not really

Alex smiled at Phoebe. "Sadly, it isn't really curable, but it ain't that hard to live with after awhile. As for the Matriarch, she is the really really old, but really smart and powerful leader of me and 'Manda's family. The Bellus have been around quite awhile, trying to protect people."

Amanda shrugged at Leon's words, her frost lessening slightly. "An incredibly fast object, flying too low, too fast, while being so small that non-magical means is unlikely leads us right to you. A gaggle of magics yourself. The only reason I do not automatically believe one of you is playing hard to get on the topic, on top of it being mostly a curiosity, is that we have ran into so many magical individuals these past few days that anything and everything may be an outlier, especially as we were led to a mall. But, then the reverse also works, that an un-explainable, almost assuredly magical occurrence, leading us right to you, is at the very least, suspect." She gave a tired sigh and her posture seemed to slump slightly, as a slight whine was introduced to her voice. "It was so much easier when the source of strangeness was Noah making a crater in an alley, as opposed to a non alien UFO that almost hit Socks catching our bored attentions."

Leon shrugged and placed his paws on his hips, "I haven't seen anything like that ever since I moved here a few days ago and the closest to, um, 'magic' that I've seen is Rua and Phoebe here...the later I had the unfortunate pleasure of being at the receiving end of."
