Title Text: if you're wondering why he didn't stop even though it was obviously too heavy for him, it's been a while since you've been to high school hasn't it
A major callout to our current education system.
Feeling sick? Often still have to go to school.
Healing from an injury? Often still have to go to school.
Turned into a random tiny mammal against your wishes? Often still have to go to school.

The mundanity just kills me with this. And now we know a little more about our intrepid squirrel. Also that it is now June apparently.

What will his classmates think about this situation?

It seems that Marion’s a boy here,
and he certainly packs like one;
keeping his pack overstuffed
from the moment his day begun.
I think you can call in sick, friend,
even if they won’t understand.
They might get, from your squeaky voice,
that something’s not gone as planned.
You may need to give up school;
You may need to accept your fate.
You may need to understand one thing:
You may not be about to graduate...

I was looking at this weeks Savestate comic and something got me thinking about the theories divine karmic retribution. Maybe Marion spoiled Endgame and is now being punished by the gods? Snitches get squirrelly?

Which do you think is the worse offense, showing up to school without your backpack, or showing up to school as a squirrel? That's the end of his bed in the background so that means Marion wasn't able to slide his backpack at all before getting crushed; poor kid. He’s probably living in his house and not a dorm room since the Title Text mentions high school specifically. Even if he wasn't trapped under his leranuns, getting to school on time is going to be an issue regardless because of his stature. "Up until his transformation into a corgi, King had not adequately considered just how much longer every trip took when you made it with shorter legs." Don't make the same mistake Marion (he's going to make the same mistake, isn't he?).

You know, that alt-text makes a very good point!
Also, I have to commend Welsh for how incredibly quick and eloquent he is at making his rhymes. It hasn't even been 20 minutes and already he's got his latest poem finished!

But I already told people how Shazam defeats Thanos after the original 6 members of the Justice League sacrifice themselves, one for each gem, and I haven't been transformed into anything (except a bigger cretin than usual, that is)!fenrirblack wrote:I was looking at this weeks Savestate comic and something got me thinking about the theories divine karmic retribution. 20th century fox? Given that this is the year 2020, that fox must be dead by now. Sadface! : (

I dunno. This guy is a senior, pretty sure he's not in the same class as the younger wolves. Maybe they have lunch together but that would be horrible in this situation.Gameb18oy wrote:It seems one of my predictions is likely now. Could just complicate things even more depending on if they are made aware of any new animals joining the program and going to school. It seems like something they would be told to be on the look out for at the very least. So they would likely question why they were not told which could make things worse if he can't come up with a good lie. Beside the school would clearly have to know and I doubt he could lie his way out of that.Gameb18oy wrote:It seems one of my predictions is likely now. The wolves must be well known around the school after a year (aww they’re almost done with their first year of high school. It feels like yesterday this happened.) Maybe Rockstar is now super popular. I always pictured him as the popular one, DeeVee the serious one, and Northstar the lovable scamp.Elwood Blutarsky wrote:I dunno. This comic makes me so glad all my textbooks are digital this semester. Poor squirrel.

Wonder if Marion has a class taught by Miles? "Excuses, excuses, excuses, Marion - you're still taking the calc final today!"
Re: 2019/05/03 - School Daze
Does make me wonder, with animals now going to schools, how would they accommodate those species that are much much smaller than humans?
Re: 2019/05/03 - School Daze
I think the best way to get to school at this point is with a skateboard (assuming he has one?). He'd have to somehow get the bag on to the board. Then he'd climb on top, and some how wheel himself to school.
Otherwise, yeah... As others have mentioned, this won't look good... With him struggling to pull the heavy bag from his home to school, and (again as already pointed out) his short little squirrel legs making "short trips" that much longer. Imagine it taking 10 minutes to get from his house to school on foot as a human, and now image as a squirrel... Again with the skateboard, it would be manageable. However, I shutter to think how long it would take; not only with those little legs, but to be struggling with a heavy bag.

One has to wonder what all they have in their backpack to make it that heavy (Yes, I know they're a squirrel). Still, love the face on the second panel.

I guess that means that he was studying extra hard for finals so he brought home all his text books. Good for him.SeanWolf wrote:One has to wonder what all they have in their backpack to make it that heavy (Yes, I know they're a squirrel). Still, love the face on the second panel.
Worse, this is going to put a huge damper on his summer plans not to mention any plans for college in the fall.Argent wrote:Especially on finals week. Probably showing up at school without any clothes on would be taken more seriously and probably be more than a little embarrassing once he realizes it...on top of showing up as a squirrel.Champion Wallace wrote:Which do you think is the worse offense, showing up to school without your backpack, or showing up to school as a squirrel?

This comic hurts me on the inside. :< So much.
Unless his mother comes in first. Or he gets caught while going to school by some random animals passing by. Either way, he has to get his backpack picked up first.Gameb18oy wrote:It seems one of my predictions is likely now. Re: 2019/05/03 - School Daze
Seems that these last two weeks of school are really important for him. But well, you're a squirrel now, and the school is the very last of your problems... You can't go there as such. You can't no more carry your backpack, then... Anyway, it's now urgently needed an explaining of what's going on.

I like this guy's determination. Honestly same, no one comes this far in the semester (or year, for those non-college kids) and lets anything get in the way of those well deserved credits. However, the backpack is a significant hindrance.

Re: 2019/05/03 - School Daze
I wonder if he really needs the backpack. I mean it’s finals so it’s not like he can open a text book during the test anyway. All he needs is a pencil or if it’s on the computer (I don’t know what high school is like nowadays, It’s been 10 years) then all he really needs is his tail in that seat. Of course getting to school is still the main issue considering he can’t drive, walk, or call for a ride.
I wonder if he was an A student before this or the squirrel thing just makes him really want a sense of normalcy. The more life changes the more you want it to remain the same.

I do remember a bit about high school back when i was in it despite it being 9 years for me and I know how heavy your backpack can get. Regardless, I do think high school was one of the best parts of my life though I am probably in the minority.

I can’t blame Marion’s desperate attempt for wanting to get to school, take his finals, and graduate. High school was a dull time for me. I always just read books the entire time and kept to myself. For some reason people were always scared of me....

Re: 2019/05/03 - School Daze
I just thought of something... If he is a senior, and he's graduating in two weeks (for the comic) then hopefully he gets his own little cap and gown for his new little body. It would make for such a cute little scene seeing him in such a getup, and then him trying to throw his tiny cap in the air along with everyone else =P
