I mean, yeah actually. While I think a hug might have been better with the situation at hand, I remember my dad giving me a kiss on the forehead when I was about to go to bed as a kid. I wouldn’t be surprised if Rick was implying romance considering he didn’t intend that to be anything big, but it’s believable enough if Rufus ends up being Max’s kinda dadfenrirblack wrote:is this something a father-figure would do? I can see why there is an appeal for Rufus to be a surrogate father for Max because it makes for a compelling story but there really is nothing there that would emphasize that.

Is a father kissing their child rare or something?

After all that he went through, Max deserved a smooch from somebody ........

Re: 2019/01/16 - What’s The Story, Wishbone?
If Rufus was a "father-figure" for Max it would most likely be under the guise of a role mode or mentor instead of Rufus playing a large role in Max's upbringing before Jeff adopted him. If Max got separated from Jeff or his parents or something like that, Rufus could have come in and played a role and developed a bond with him. A good example of what I'm talking about is Naruto's relationship with Jiraiya.
This begs the question of what do people think when they see the words "father-figure"? Are we talking a surrogate father like Kitsune is currently? Or something more along the lines of adoption and raising the child? Or something like a role model/mentor?

All the above? A father figure is just a guy who helps out a kid much younger than themfenrirblack wrote:If Rufus was a "father-figure" for Max it would most likely be under the guise of a role mode or mentor instead of Rufus playing a large role in Max's upbringing before Jeff adopted him. I figured that "father figure" was more of a mentor/role model. I think Kitsune would fall under "foster father." Could lead to adoption.

I'm gonna go with "father figure" as being a male influence and not actually acting like a father.

What’s the difference between a “father figure” and a “big brother”?

I feel like there is a difference, but it's really nebulous and personal.

It's an in-development animated series following a team of Anthro-Dogs trapped in the Wastelands of a ruined Earth.
Re: 2019/01/16 - What’s The Story, Wishbone?
I think it comes down to the age difference for me, though I admit I hadn't given it much thought before now. Someone who is a "big brother" is more of a role model for a child in the sense that they are a reflection of who the child can be in a relatively short time, whereas the "father figure" is more of a mentor in providing wisdom and experience that a child can apply in their lives though it will probably be a relatively long time before the child could realistically start patterning their life after the "father figure". Something like that.
Re: 2019/01/16 - What’s The Story, Wishbone?
A father figure is someone you like to emulate as if they were your actual parent. Kids or young folks usually latch onto older people that helped them out when they were younger for this to happen. Most older folks become father figures without actually knowing and Rufus might not have known, thus the kiss.
As for the kiss, though, I'm guessing Maxwell did something that Rufus found adorable? can't wait to find out :3

Teachers sometimes use the term "alternative adult role models", adult men (and women) younger folks interact with who can be examples, mentors, trusted confidants, other than parents. Coaches or clergy are other examples. There also are more "informal" examples like an adult neighbor or a friend's parents. The key elements are opportunity (you gotta be around your teachers), trust, and someone who may have opinions but is willing to be non-judgmental. For me, there was this old farmer I did chores for so I could be around his animals, but he taught me a lot.

Sounds like that term just encompasses a "father figure" and a "big brother" mentor so that it will mean a man of any age can be a role model.

Re: 2019/01/16 - What’s The Story, Wishbone?
The way I see it, and this is open to interpretation, is that on top of the age difference, there is also a difference in the care they provide. A father (figure) does more for the child, whereas a big brother does more with the child. Then again, I don't hear the term big brother used much when referring to people who don't share the same parents.fenrirblack wrote:What’s the difference between a “father figure” and a “big brother”?

I only here it with actual brothers or people involved in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, a charity that pairs kids up with volunteers who keep them out of trouble and help them do well in life.Champion Wallace wrote:Then again, I don't hear the term big brother used much when referring to people who don't share the same parents.

Looking back at this comic, I'm gonna emphasize we need to see Grape with that needy look more. So good :3

You sure this is the correct comic? I don't see Grape having a needy look in the frames.
Re: 2019/01/16 - What’s The Story, Wishbone?
Oh she's definitely needy in that second panel. Just not the usual kind of needy we're use to seeing. She's more like Sabrina in this panel ~ trying the soft approach.

Really? I think of it as more of an arrogant look than anything when it came to trying to make Max tell the story but that's just me.

I'd say Grape was going for seductive more than needy or arrogant, but that's just one person's opinion!

I guess she could also be going for that. That probably was what I was thinking of but couldn't figure out the correct word.

Us girls, we are so magical with our soft skin, red lips, so kissable and it is also hard to resist us because we are so touchable.
